"So let's say, hypothetically, there was a homeless person, we would say, that person is poor. But then imagine, hypothetically, that same homeless person tripped over a rock, that also happened to be a 200 carat diamond, then we would say, that person is rich. So that's why, logically speaking, the concepts of rich and poor do not exist." - Benny Shabibo

I like how Ben's comment about how the top 1% pays 40% of the taxes is meant to make that sound more than fair, but ignores how the math would work out. If the top 1% has more money than all of the middle class combined you'd expect them to pay at least 50%. If the median income in the US is about 40k and the top 1% makes over 600k then the top 1% should be paying at least 62-75% if the median of the top 1% was only 600k. Realistically the very richest people should collectively be covering more than 75% of the total taxes if they were paying their fair share.

I think you're right and that's the terrifying world the billionaires are aiming for, but at the same time I'm conflicted because a rent based economy is closer to more ethical, low waste capitalism and communalised goods - like theoretically this could be a late stage of capitalism laying the transitionary groundworks for socialism. Sounds horrible but maybe it's needed to shake loose the greedy notion of 'mine' that capitalism has been enforcing for centuries.

And at some point I just realized: Why would they want to sell it? Sure, they can't turn their property into the number of physical dollars that make up his net worth, but why would they? They got something better than money: PROPERTY. Some property creates money in the long run, that's why they call it investments. But not even in the "it might rise in value" type of way, because that's just mostly a gamble. I mean: some property can be used to save up money (like solar panels) or to exploit other people (like land or companies). If you ask me, net worth is not even showing a high enough number.
