Matt and Craig make a devil's bargain by watching the 1967 classic 'Bedazzled'. Selling your soul was never so much fun!
And in Seen It, we discuss Ghost Riders, Station Agents, more redeemable A-holes and another movie on Matt's hate list.
All film footage is used in accordance with fair use and US copyright law. All music in the show is used with full permission of the composer.
Thanks for all the great comments. Keep em coming! If you watch one of the movies we discuss, let us know what you thought of it.
Welcome To The Basement" is a show about watching, discussing and having fun with movies. Matt choses the movie and Craig doesn't know what it is until the cameras start rolling, so none of the discussion or riffing is planned ahead of time.
Movie announced on facebook before every new episode. Get the movie and follow along.

It wasn't really a joke. I just said "you know who we're talking about" and then "Gerald" was the first name I thought of. Then I thought it would be funny to put someone's picture up there, like he was the friend we were talking about. Then it turns out it's a photo of an actor who was actually in Return of the Jedi, so now it seems like some esoteric inside joke, which it's not. Just random nonsense.
I went to college with Pete Dinklage and saw him play Iago in Othello. It was obvious then that the guy was a total genius. I'm glad Hollywood has gotten over many of its prejudices to the point that Pete is getting his due and then some.

Stacey Earley You went to Bennington?
i saw this when i was a kid, but i never knew what it was called! Thanks for helping me out!
I took the time to watch Bedazzled because of this episode, since it's on netflix. Thanks for the review, I have a new favorite film.
I just found Bedazzled on Netflix a few nights ago. I watched it only because of this episode and I LOVED it. It is interesting to see your own perspective change as Stanley's does

This has recently become my favorite youtube show
I thought this was the Brendan Fraser movie. XP
Sad to say that this will be the last episode i will be able to watch for awhile since i am leaving for the military and will not have internet access.. I dont know how i will make it with out you guys and the old leather couch.. so sad.
I finally watched Harvey (1950) for the first time ever a couple days ago and because I mis-remembered the Tom Waits joke in this episode I kept waiting for Elwood to say "The donuts have names like prostitutes". It was very, very weird. :)
That drinking game for "Long Day's Journey Into Night" that you mentioned should be your next episode of "Beer and Board Games"!
FYI Bedazzled is now on Netflix US
I had an epiphany watching this episode. I've learned that I have horrible taste in movies. I keep seeing movies that the critics hate, and I love them half the time. I see movies that all my friends figured out the twist to in the first ten minutes, but I never see it coming. I've got about a 50-50 track record with movies that have cult followings. But I'll keep watching, because DAMMIT, I love seeing film broken down and explained. I love that look into other folks' reasoning.
Seen it? Robert Altman's The Player. A thrilling viewing experience that left me entertained throughout the movie. Haven't seen it in a while, would actually enjoy this as a possible future episode if Matt hasn't seen it yet.
I'm trying to say this without seeming mean. I... Kind of forget about you guys. Like, this entire channel, for weeks, or sometimes even months on end. I'm subscribed, so your stuff *should* be coming up on my feed, but I miss it. I'm kind of okay with it though, because then i get to "re-discover" you, and i have a ton of stuff to watch, and before i know it, it's 4 am, and I'm still burning through videos. It's awesome. Anyway, thanks for all the laughs, and keep doing what you're doing.
Bluray is great. I'm not rebuying my entire collection, but I get all my new movies on bluray and have repurchased my absolute favorites. Any way, these are great, keep em coming.
Rob is awesome, I wanna see more of him on B&BG. Great work again, as always fellows.
Ok, in the intro, there is a DVD in the bottom right. It's always been there and it's always made me giggle. Thank you YO SOY SAM.
I so wanna see this now!
I was expecting Craig to say "Fausto! FAUSTO!"
Great show! Thanks for the support shout out, appreciated.
I personally like the newer Bedazzled, it takes the old ones premise and does the parts they talk about even better: God isn't an asshole, Brendan Frasier goes from meak to 'man', the romantic interest is better looking and the wishes are so much more interesting.
YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!
Seen it? "The Burning" from 1981, it's a really good and rather unexpected slasher film combined with a sex comedy. "Repo! The Genetic Opera" a crazy good rock opera musical with a really interesting setting. "The Cabin in the Woods" a really unexpected twist on the slasher horror genre.
Matt, Craig, you guys are so freakin' funny! Loving this series.
this is the best birthday present ever.
my lil brother and i thought the first ghost rider movie was some of the funniest shit we've ever seen! we couldn't stop laughing during it, literally crying from laughing
My favorite movie of all times is Sphere, its one of the most amazing, mind playing, and really beutiful movie. Its a must see!
Me too. I was growing up during Fraser's prime so I got excited and then let down when they showed the old one.
Eleanor Blon (female co-star in Bedazzled) was in the movie "Help" (featuring the Beatles).
"I'm a cyborg, but that's OK" and "Survive Style 5+". Great asian movies.
2:10 Kerbal Space Program music?
Okay - recommendation - how about "Bedazzled"? The Brendan Fraser/Elizabeth Hurley version from 2000. Its different that the original, but fun in its own way. And, lets face it, Satan is far more likely to appear as Hurley than as Cook. It would make a wonderful juxtaposition with this episode. Love the show, keep up the great work.
It is so very clearly obvious to me now that the show Lucifer and Tom Ellis' version of the character was heavily inspired by this movie. I haven't watched it yet, but I will now.
You may well have seen it Matt but how about Dazed and Confused? It's a film that never gets old for me!
What about the remake? Have you seen it?
Ahh, the ultimate staring contest - Ernesto vs. Hypnotoad !!
I agree, it turned out to be quite the treat.
good catch. i was wondering where i'd seen him last.
If you haven't already seen it, "The Bridge on the River Kwai" is one of my favorite movies. You get to see a middle aged Obi-Wan Kenobi give an amazing performance.
Love this great film.
You guys didn't even talk about my favorite scene, where Satan tries to cheer up Stanley by taking him to a carnival with Gluttony and Avarice!
I just watched the movie a few days ago because of this video. I Loved it! Keep up the good work guys, you are great. P.S. Thoughts on Bram Stokers Dracula?
I had no idea the 2000 Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley, Bedazzled was a remake.
It's probably a bit late but for Seen It I recommend Down By Law. Great cast, great dialogue, funny and tragic and some great quotable lines.
Well, this is exciting. Hardly anyone here yet.
How about checking out the Bedazzled remake with Brendan Fraser? Be interesting for you guys to watch a remake of something your already seen, so you can compare and contrast. Plus, when I saw part of the remake in a motel when I was 15, I thought it was funny enough to go rent it to watch all of it. I want to know if I had any taste when I was that age.
I had no idea that the Fraser was a remake. I love Dudley Moore though, so I'm gonna check it out.
Speaking of good ol' Mr. Waits, have you seen Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee and Cigarettes"? It's a compilation of various actors, musicians and comedians having conversations while they drink coffee and smoke. Waits' vignette with Iggy Pop is awkwardly hilarious. Same goes for Bill Murray's talk with RZA and GZA.
Have you guys seen District 9? District 9 is one of my favorite movies, the story is emotional, action and sci-fi all in one great movie, if you have not seen it, see it. oh and I love this show.
The 1992 film Nemesis is incredible campy fun and features an amazing number of explosions. I dare you to watch it!
Catching up on older episodes. I agree about Ghost Rider 2 being way better than the first movie. At first, I didn't like it, but after a rewatch I really enjoyed the zaniness.
This is the 3rd episode I've seen and I like this series it's interesting, and it's thrown me for a loop with some of the titles I've seen/heard of several of the remakes (Wicker man and Bedazzled) but it's cool to see the original versions. For myself personally I prefer the 90's bedazzled (I like Brendan Fraser, and it was entertaining.) This was cool to learn about though
I bet you haven't seen "Son of Ranbow"(2007), its an indie brit flick which im sure you guys would love if you haven't already seen it.
As much as I love Spielberg, I was beyond relieved when his plan to remake "Harvey" fell through. I'm not opposed to remaking old movies if they could stand an update, but this particular film is utter perfection. There's nothing you could possibly add to it. it stands to lose everything and gain nothing. Filmmakers seriously need to learn to keep their hands off of fixing what isn't broken. Even if you're Spielberg.
A new Welcome To The Basement. Its a good day.
LOL Wimpy such nostalgia for me
(Squeal) You said my name! Glad you've seen it, it's one of my favs! Craig, I'm highly disappointed in you. ~_•
Have you seen Hellboy? It's a quite good comic book movie, with brilliant practical effects. Ron Perlman (America's Caveman) strikes again in the title role with a fantastic performance.
For "Seen It," there are two films I'd love to see you cover. The first is George Romero's Knightriders, which is perhaps the finest film about a traveling Renaissance Faire on motorcycles ever made. The second is Rock and Rule, Nelvana's mid-eighties animated post-apocalypse romp. Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, and a demon made of cow brains--how can you go wrong?
Anyone else thought they wet gonna watch the remake with what's his face.. And also what's her face as well

+Ryan Golden You mean Brendan Frasier and Elizabeth Hurley, of course ? Yeah, I totally thought that was the version they meant.
Best one so far folks, also now for some reason I have an urge to watch Mary Poppins and "10"...
Yes! I thought I was the only one who didn't like Team America! Your opinions are correct, gentlemen.
Once again, will suggest 'Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie'
Please review or discuss Fandango, the 1985 road trip comedy that is in reality a much deeper introspective about how we deal with becoming adults after college. Kevin Reynolds' directorial debut, Kevin Costner's first (and arguably best) starring role, and Judd Nelson's movie debut. A killer soundtrack. The skydiving scene alone makes it worth watching. My all-time favorite movie.
Peter Dinklage is great as the wedding planner in the Michael Showalter film "The Baxter". If you haven't already seen it... well...
I want to see this movie now
hi guys, I was wondering since you are such big Michael Shannon fans what you think about him playing General Zod in the new Superman movie. Love the show guys keep doing what your doing.
I would LOVE to see you watch or review ''Those magnificent men and their flying machines!"
You talk about the saxophone, and the first song you can think of is Baker Street? I'm both impressed and, in some odd way, let down.

PokerJoker811 It's pretty much Baker Street or What Does it Take (To Win Your Love).
You should watch "Edmond". It's dark and twisted an weird in all the best ways.
I don't know if you guys realize that a great deal of your fan-base loves the "Seen It" portion of your show so much that, if you dedicated a new show, only evolving you two reviewing movies(new and old), that you would probably get the same amount of viewers(if not more). If I sound weird, it's only cause I've been drinkin. Also, thank you.
ooooooo,,,, i love the new graphic...
ksp music 2:23 :D love the game and this show . Perfect
Im glad it wasnt the more recent Bedazzled.I can't wait to see Craig's reaction to Scarface.
You both are crazy! Team America was awesome!
Matt Sloan, you're like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; when you're hosting Welcome to the Basement you're a brilliant cinephile I wish would take advantage of me, and when you're hosting Beer and Board Games, you're an adorable drunk I want to take advantage of. I am heterosexual.
In a way Stanley was chewing through his Whimpy dreams eating without a sound, digesting en gland by the pound.
According to IMDB, Groundhog Day was Michael Shannon's film debut. You're welcome.
Have you seen the black comedy film Bernie? It features Jack Black as its central character and he pulls off the serious role very well.
Lol great review. Now I want to watch it. Habe you watched any star trek movies? If so which was your favorite and why?
Have you guys seen Pan's Labyrinth? Amazing movie
Looks less campier than this old version, I haven't seen the old one truly but from this insight I think the points they made are reflected better in the new one as I said.
Have you seen John Woo's blood-opera "Hard Boiled"? If so then have you seen Micheal Davis' "Shoot 'Em Up"? I found that there were abundant similarities, and love them both.
I wish they did both. That would have been hilarious.
I think anyone who knows what Raquel Welch looked like at that time gets excited when they here her name
Show got me back into movies, wish it was on every week but know it takes time to make/watch episodes. Either way I'm sure you've both seen it but a newerish movie that would be cool to be on the show would be Idiocracy. Hilarious comedy that might actually come true.
Ive said it before and I understand that you guys are either behind on the comments or have seen said movie, but i really would either like your opinion or a review. Drive. one of the most under rated movies of the decade and what has become a cult classic. at least in my opinion,
Great episode if you feel like another movie with a great Devil in it check out "Damn Yankees" with Ray Walston as Mr. Applegate!
Oh! Talking about Tom Waits, have you seen Down by Law? I'd be very happy to hear your opinions on it if you have seen it and if you haven't, please make it part of this series.
If you haven't seen it I'd recommend the Rankin/Bass classic Flight of Dragons. I think it is probably their best movie.
looks like a bad pixel if you really look at it, but the other camera doesn't do it. there is a problem with the camera on craigs left.
Hey Matt, did you see the 2000 version of Bedazzled starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. If so what did you think of it?
you guys should do a Stephen King movie. i love the King. His books more than the movies but still.
If your view count seems one short it's because I'm waiting to get a copy of Bedazzled from my library.
I think you should do Kind Hearts and Coronets with Sir Alec Guinness playing eight different roles. Although, judging by what you've already seen, I'm betting you've seen it.

PillowSniff Awesome movie!! A favorite of screenwriters!
I'd love the show guys, It's great I have a suggestion, I'd say you have seen it already, Taxi Driver, Its my favourite movie.
Can't believe you didn't mention the puppet sex scene from team America, when that came on first time I watched it I just couldn't believe they did that lol
Much better than Bedazzled (2000) with Brendan Fraiser. Sadly, you didn't mention the sequel
ha ! right when i went to check my subscriptions !
Surprised there was no mention of the Bedazzled remake... And I have to COMPLETELY agree with you about Everything Must Go. Given that it was Will Ferrell, I started it expecting a comedy, saw it was drama and figured it could still be good... but meh. no.
