How does it feel? To be on the old leather couch? Watching an obtuse, inscrutable movie? With Bob Dylan? Like a rolling stone...
In Seen It, we discuss giving Hitchcock a second chance, the seediness of Chinatown and Craig's favorite Blaxploitation parody.
All film footage is used in accordance with fair use and US copyright law. All music in the show is used with full permission of the composer.
Thanks for all the great comments. Keep em coming! If you watch one of the movies we discuss, let us know what you thought of it.
Welcome To The Basement" is a show about watching, discussing and having fun with movies. Matt choses the movie and Craig doesn't know what it is until the cameras start rolling, so none of the discussion or riffing is planned ahead of time.
Movie announced on facebook before every new episode. Get the movie and follow along. We do discuss the entire movie, including the ending, so if you want to avoid spoilers, watch the movie first.

I never thought about watching movies once not being enough like Craig said. That really opened my eyes to judging movies so quickly on the first run. Maybe I'll give a go at some movies I hated, and also loved, on my first viewing just to see how they stand up on the second.

+DeathBlackWish The first time I saw inception I thought it was terrible. I watched it again recently and it wasn't all that bad. It did have some fun scenes and it wasn't poorly acted or anything. I still don't think it was worthy of all the acclaim it got but it certainly wasn't a terrible movie as I originally thought.

When I was in high school I decided to see what all that Bob Dylan fuss was about. I listened to Biograph and couldn't really get it. But on the second run-through, Tombstone Blues caught my ear and wouldn't let go. I played it over and over and thus became a Dylan buff. As to the chicken line, I think that's what really got him the Nobel.

Oh wow, this episode was so wonderful! Though watching pieces of Craig's soul crumbling away as the movie passed by was so sad.... "It's lemon scented..." love it. Also quite loved Craig's line about giving art a second chance, lovely. Thank you for another fantastic episode, fellas :)

This is the third time I've watched this episode. I've had serious reservations about watching Masked and Anonymous. I am a huge fan of Dylan and I also love Bridges and Goodman, so I might as well get it over with. Also, Black Dynamite. I have never even heard of it before, but any movie that Craig endorses, and says it was the hardest he has laughed deserves attention. Thanks and cheers. Greatest show ever. I love WTTB.

One thing to note with Daybreakers is that it was an Australian production. We don't tend to make very good films, especially when we go after some sort of blockbuster style wide release thing. Animal Kingdom is the only thing of note to come out of my country I can think of in the last 10 years. It's somewhat of an artistic black hole here.

This seems like one of those boring bad movies which to me are the worst. If a movie is bad but it at least keeps me drawn in I'll keep watching it, but if it's boring I can't do it.

Why does every scene he’s in, seem like it’s not just Bob Dylan’s first day on Earth, but his first moments interacting with these humans he’s been writing about for so long? Craig’s response of: “Ooohhhh...noooo” was highly appropriate. When the little girl sings Times They Are A-Changin’, I honestly have never cringed harder. OH WAIT I WAS WRONG BECAUSE ED HARRIS IS IN FUCKING BLACK FACE. Also I loved how you completely didn’t mention the little girl or Giovanni Ribisi because of how inane 90% of this...movie? is. The rest of the movie is Dylan singing.

I'm not sure I agree with Craig when he says that you don't get everything from a song on the first listen. The example I have in mind is Sleep's Dopesmoker. Probably the first song over an hour long. It definitely gets you in a trance, and what's better is that I can hear every instruments, dub, etc. clear as crystal.

I agree..generally I am able to take the whole film in in one viewing, and you are right if the story can not hold you, little things that seem petty to others tear the film down. As Nostalgia Critic pointed out, if a film can not distract you from its technical flaws with its story, it failed. I feel that way about Last Airbender as well (love the show though) and in terms of not liking a popular film I will not see Man of Steel a second time. And as a lifelong superman fan.it really irks me.

You can tell when a Talent Bomb (which I nominate for WTTB's next TVTropes entry) is coming when the advertisements for the movie feature this blatant oversaturation of cast mentions (almost all of which are followed by snippets of them in the movie, as if to say "Yes, they're ALL here!"). You see it in things like Movie 43, New Year's Eve, and most, if not all, of the Scary Movie franchise.

I recently watched a damn good movie called Wilder Napalm. Not quite a comedy, not quite a drama, it was a huge box office failure, but I found it to be a genius film of some new bizarre genre I'm calling biographical fiction, because it seemed so real behaviorally. More believable fiction, I have not seen. A bizarre rivalry sparks again, when pyrokinetic brothers engage in heated scuffles over their shared burning passion for a romantic interest, whom one of the brothers in already married to!
