The capsule was a MacGuffin?
Betting 7/11 is the birth date of little Francis. I also saw Alien way too young... HBO in the early days was a double edged sword when it came to being exposed to films.
Had the same experience with using the box, so much that when I saw the thumbnail I ffd to you having to use that solution card.
Do you remember when Aaron was ''Baggins'' in the Snake Oil animated miniseries ?
One of my earliests was Princess Bride. It was a double feature, but we bailed before the second film. That film was TREMORS! A film I later watched and LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF, of course. To this day, I wish we would have stayed….
As a kid the channel TNT would use scenes from this as filler between shows, good, fun, crazy times! This movie has been seated into my psyche seeing it back in the day, just rewatched on Tubi and had a great time!
Brian's been stealing my whiskey, I can see the quantity diminish! Darn that damned Leprechaun King with his WAYS!
Oh my god! You guys, too??? Everyone is so f*cking wrong about FMJ… Yeah, the first half hooks you with its pace and memorable dialogue. But it slows its roll during the second half and becomes a riveting suspense film that’s also a visually beautiful meditation on war and violence and blah, blah, blah…. Anyways; second half is just as good. Kubrick likes to do this sort of thing. He’ll hook you in with one type of film and then switch it up (A Clockwork Orange is another example, and one in which you and your short-attention-spanned cohorts most certainly complain has a “BORING SECOND HALF”). I don’t have the time or comment space to explain all this to you, just know… I’m super disappointed that you said THAT; the same thing that every dilettante says about FMJ. If you get bored during the second half??? Says more about YOU than it does about the film, bucko…..
Hi can you make an update on the “Life andDdeath of a Pumpkin”!!
I been watching this for so long, like every Halloween
Classic
Imagine my surprise when I see Greg Benson on an episode of Dog Whisperer
I cant believe this is 13 years old. I first saw this sophomore year of college and loved every second.
I like ever guest host you have on this show. There has not been any that I have not enjoyed. They all bring something different and entertaining to the show. But Adam is, in my opinion, the best at bringing this show to the levels of consistent hilarity that were the hallmarks of your partnership with Craig. I had no interest in seeing this film reviewed, but I thoroughly enjoyed this episode!
Kennedy school is awesome!! So glad you got to experience it ❤
Great episode!
I believe PN loved making this movie because of the hockey players who were down to earth decent people. He openly invited them to visit him if they ever were travelling his way. Also this cult movie has been watched by every hockey playing youth in Canada....over and over. Add to this its funny as hell.....entertaining......and a not far off the truth of minor hockey at the time (fueled by the fuccess of the NHL Flyers).
Movies = hypnotism
Matt Sloan - "Dreadlock Rasta!"
It will never get old for me... "I need to be briefed!" - Matt could come up with those for days!
"I need to be briefed" is a great phrase for just general confusion, I need to pick that up.
So the movies watched here are pretty bad I’m sensing after watching for a couple months. But your reviews are great 👍🏼
The movie summary omitted a key part of the movie ending - when Jake phones Coulter's father, claiming to be a colleague, and achieves some closure of that relationship.
Time travel movie buffs should compare the Source Code with the Denzel Washington "Deja Vue".
go go gadget sonic screwdriver?
Queen Matt.
Chad Vader in full HD?
Source code? More like Sadie code! Boom meow roasted
I also need to be briefed.
Loved this episode. I've been waiting for the right time to watch this movie. I was also a victim of a faulty movie projector when the film first came out. I guess it'll be tonight!
Seen it? The Jigsaw Man (1983) starring Michael Caine. British espionage thriller, running time 90 minutes. Great, silly fun & half the cast are friends of the Basement. Well worth a watch!
A cup of Merlot?
Just rewatched the Chad vader series so this is good timing! :D
Isn't this Aron's show? Why does matt say "you will not be asked back." Like its HIS show.
I watched this movie when it came out and I completely forgot about the scenes in the real world and that the movie doesn't end with the kiss, which would've been a better ending. Also, yay, a Sadie appearance.
zowie bowie
I like to have a gryphon and a half a month (Rolphed comment)
I was hoping that at the beginning of the movie, they would show a blank screen and then cut to Matt saying, "Ah yes, I remember this part."
For some reason I remember seeing commercials for this movie everywhere, and I thought it sounded pretty interesting. Never went and saw it though.
I don't know why exactly, but as I grow older I'm less interested in "mind-bending puzzle movies" like this. It's like I'd rather see a synopsis (or a Basement) and go, "on, okay, so that was the twist," then spend the 90 minutes watching some other movie
Hosts mention similarity with The Matrix, a black cat appears... Déjà vu.
Sadie!! Long time ❤❤
I remember finding the script for this film online and thinking it was a better read than finished film at the time. (Seems to happen a lot...)

A basement encompasses your critical ability towards film.
I do wonder if Matt has heard anyone call his chest hair sexy before, he sounded so incredulous about it.
What? Should I ever come into any type of riches, I will pay ANYTHING to get Craig back on this show. This is not a critique of Adam, nor any other cohost you've had. I just miss the unparalleled rapport. Still, thank you so much for this.
I loved this movie. The "many worlds/alternate realities" aspect of it is a little weird, but I absolutely loved the portrayal of what the experience of being just a "brain in a vat" must be like. Back in the day when IMDb had user message boards, I frequented the board for _2001: A Space Odyssey_ daily for years and years. Had many a discussion and got into far too many heated debates. I've probably dissected this film more than anything else I've seen. I've been lucky to see it on 60mm projection a number of times, and as an extra bonus, a theatre not far from me (the TIFF Lightbox in Toronto) even played it in its original "roadshow" presentation -- the curtains remained closed during the overture, then opened for the start of the film, then closed again for the intermission and we actually got 10 minutes to stretch or get snacks, and then re-opened for the conclusion. Such a great experience I hope all movie lovers get to have at least once.
I remember seeing this and expecting a B Movie, but it's actually a competent and entertaining film. Have you seen A Field in England? There aren't many psychological horror films set during the English Civil War, so it immediately stands out. The cinematography is especially good as it does not fall into standard horror tropes.
By the time I was a kid in the 90s, Star Wars obviously had been out for a long time, and we had them on VHS. I don't remember a time when I didn't know what Star Wars was. There are home videos of me and my brother reenacting scenes when I was 4, and me telling my mom to send it to George Lucas. Great childhood memories, still a fan to this day :)
