Good Morning Dave!!! 243 shootin' good!! I use the 129gr. SST in my 6.5 Creedmoor they shot amazing, my best group was 5 shot 3/8"! Some people thing just because it's a hunting bullet, that it can't group well. When you handload you find out what your gun like. It's a Game Changer!!!

Dave. I got into my first .243 and decided to go the AR 10 from BCA. Superb performance. I attribute the accuracy to the 1:8 twist. Fast spin stability and thus tighter shot groups with the 87-107 gr bullet range. With the longer barrels 22-24” I’m having great success with IMR 4350.

Dave, that 243 shoots great. At one time the AR didn’t shoot that great. They have come a long way. I always enjoy your videos. When I started hunting, I chased groundhogs. I believe that you call them rockchucks. So as a varmint hunter it was all about tiny groups.I had a Remington 700 BDL in 22-250. When I first got it it wouldn’t group. There would be a flyer 7 or 8” away from the group. I put a chewing gum foil as a shim between the stock and receiver around the front screw and free floated the barrel. And reloaded for it using a 52 grain BTHP and IMR 3031. That rifle shot hole for hole after that. I dropped it once and to check the scope, I lined up the crosshairs on a woven wire fence and fired. It cut the wire. So I chase groups and always have. When I started killing deer, I had a big target. If they stood there a few seconds, it was lights out. Thanks for your videos. Glad the weather has improved for us both. I live in Ky by the way.

SSTs for the win! I just traded for some of them. I’d rather use Nosler ballistic tips on deer just because I’ve used them in the 90 grain version and dumped deer off their feet. I heard you kinda hesitate on saying they were great for hunting. Guessing the solid base on the ballistic tips make them a little tougher. I see your 95’s shoot like my 55 noslers and 60 grain Seirra HPs in both my 243 BCA uppers! Great job! Wondering if your groups would tighten up with the chronograph removed????

Maybe someday. Problem I have experienced with light for caliber traditional varmint bullets, in the 243 is both bullet spin and velocity being too high. I have smaller caliber rifles designed for light bullets such as the .223 and 22-250 with 1-12 - 1-14 barrel twist. The 243 win in this video has a 1-8 twist barrel designed for heavier bullets.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 very nice! Gives you the options to use heavier bullets with that twist rate if you wish. I have watched many videos regarding barrel harmonics. Using different loads affects barrel harmonics as you know. And that is why you’re trying to find the best load with the right powder. Also, what affects harmonics is having something touching your barrel. You don’t want to stock touching your barrel and you really don’t want things hanging off the end of it . I would suggest getting a different chronograph if your truly wanting to get better groups. I recently picked up the Garman Xero C1 Pro chronograph. I’ve only had it a short time, but it works very very well and I have nothing hanging off my gun. I think you’ll have a much easier time getting good results. Of course is a whole Nother subject about barrel tuners, but that you can research on your own. They are certainly growing in popularity recently and there’s one that stands out in particular it’s made by a world-class long range shooter. I’ve gone on long enough. Have a good day. Enjoy your range time!
