Great job sir, In Europe we have 187gr 8mm bullet traveling at 2700 ft/s producing 3000 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

A lot of guys were talking years ago about light loading the 8mm with the 124gr projectiles, but no one had any luck getting much accuracy. Its in the reloading book. Yeah the yugo 24/47 is an intermediate action, the m48 does as well though. These shouldn't be confused with the yugo reworked k98s. The actions are a little bit shorter, that affects stocks and scope mounts and bolts, but effectively everything else is fair game. Last video we were talking about the stepped barrels. Some folks say ease or production, some people say harmonics, but I believe C&R Arsenal penned it right, as the barrel heats up itll expand laterally and help keep the accuracy as the heat increases. Ive never considered cfe223 in 8mm... Things may go better with something in the heavy 196gr range. Thanks for giving the 8mm some review! its under apprciated

Good Morning Dave!!! Your son's rifle looks very nice with that rubber recoil pad!! 8mm Mauser yah!! You either love them or hate them??? I've got an M48 Mauser in the Military stock, with that lovely "Steel butt plate!!!" You talk about putting a hurtin' on yourself, it will do it!! Good video Dave!!!

(Video coming) Next (now) more loads on the bench with a 180 Nosler! Good video gives me some ideas. I got 2660fps top load with 170 sst but Im only a 19/20" bbl.

Look forward to your videos, Always. If it were my rifle and not my Son's, I would like to work up a good deer load with a 150 grain. According to the book it would be fast with lower recoil.

Good Morning Idaho ! Dave has a great load development. Remington cor Lok in 8 x 57 is under powered . They do this deliberately for protection from faulty rifles. My Local gunsmith has a barreled action in 8 x 57. I've been eyeing it for over a year. I need to act or I will be kicking myself.lol

The 8mmx57 is an interesting cartridge. The cartridge has a limited bullet selection, yet has a good variation of bullet weights. Brass seems widely available and I suppose 30.06 brass could be reformed and trimmed to 8mm Mauser.

It is a versatile cartridge, very popular in Europe and came to the USA mainly as war surplus. But never really caught on among the major American firearms manufacturers.

When I rolled my own rifle cartridges(need to start again), I always weighed each load. I did not for many target/plinking weight handgun loads, but would if I was nearing max loads. The SD of the 170 8mm are about the same as 150 .308. You should be able to get somewhere in the middle of 308 Win to 30-06 velocities from their 150 grain loads with those 170s, in a modern action. You could let your son be the test shoulder if y'all are not to far apart and have a free weekend, while you search for the best load. Those you tested today, should put a deer in the freezer with no problem. I was sad to see all the shotgun hulls at your range. Folks should police their area and not leave it for others to do.😒
