Sometimes Load combos produce just So-So results on paper. But good enough for hunting.

I enjoy your videos and you are one of the view channels I have flagged for notifications. Would you consider doing a "Coyote Only" load work up video for your 243s? We regularly get 45 to 50 pound yotes in my neck of the woods, and we have taken two exceeding 50 lbs. I was thinking 75 or 80 grain vmax bullets in 243 might be more appropriate than my 55 grain 223 vmax loads at longer ranges. Thoughts?

All those would be good choices indeed. For the 243 you can try an all around load that is the 85 grain HPBT that can also take deer. It will be fast at 3,150fps but will also exit. If you don't keep the pelts than give this a try. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXdp1saHgqqolsY.html&ab_channel=DaveStrohmeyer-SaddleUpShootin%27

Thanks Dave. As always, a wealth of information. I tend to run into what you found today more than I do good combinations. Especially with 6.5 Staball. It is a fast powder, but inconsistent in my 6.5 and 7mm-08. On another note, in the interviews with Toby Keith toward the end, you could tell his illness had brought him closer to the Lord and he was at peace with whatever the outcome.

It works real well for my 6.5 Creedmoor's and gives me the highest velocities. But in this case 100-125 ES on a 3 shot group leads me to think the problem lies elsewhere. Thanks for you experience.

Thanks for the video. I have a 243 and have shot quite a few and loaded alot but with bolt action. I like speed period for varmints. Speed with the right bullet. On my 90gr bullets i like RL22. 95s i like IMR7828SC. I have a pair of LFARs in 260 Rem. Both AeroPrecision I built myself. One is a 18 in mid length the other 24 inch. Both of them I added weight in the buffer, exchanged one weight with tungstun. Both have adjustable gas blocks. With 120gr eldms with 6.5 Staball. All my bullets touched in a five shot group but 82 fps extreme spread is too much for me. I personally expected better results in using the Staball powder for the loads i have used it in. Great video. Thanks again.

I use Magnum primers for cartridges that hold more than 60gns of slow burning powders. In my experiences with the 20/ 30 degree shoulder cartridges it is best to follow the bullet makers standard or magnum primer recommendation. Thanks for your input here.

I still think a better bullet choice, Would make a significant difference. Berger, Barnes ,barts. You might need to go with a higher bearing retention surface, In other words size the Neck down more. You would be surprised how much that would make a significant difference in accuracy. People forget that it's just a number. And every rifle needs a different amount of neck bearing surface retention.

In this case as mentioned with the wild ES's compared to other combos leads me to believe bullet set back is the culprit due to the strong kinetic energy of the action. Thanks for your suggestion though.

If/when you take that gun out hunting, do you keep the brass catcher on it? I do, and it's not as big a PITA as one would think. Plus, some of my AR loads use Lapua and Norma brass and I don't want to lose any to the gophers. 😊 thanks, Dave!

This rifle has not taken any game as of now, it is new. But on my other MSR's, varmint hunting, the brass catcher is attached. The only exception is for Deer or Elk, afoot or horseback, then no. I can't afford foreign made brass. HaHa! But I understand why some folks go to that expense, because I only wear Resistol Hats.

Have you tried a collet neck tension die? I think it would help you get more consistent tension on your neck and you would not need to crimp. Just a thought and it doesn’t hurt to research it. I bought one for my 6mm ARC but I haven’t tried it myself because I am already getting very good results without it.

My bolt guns shoot lights out with .2 grains over noslers max book load with imr4831 and the 90 grain NBT. I need to try the load in both my 243 uppers now that my buddy gave me a pound of that non existent powder. The 70 grain noslers like the same with .5 grains over noslers max load data.

I use the lee factory crimp collet die on my loads. I adjust it down a 1/4" after running it down to a loaded round. So a light crimp. Extremely even and consistent crimp. Never shot any loads uncrimped though the 243 BCAs yet and probably won't just to be safe. I’ve also tried the small base sizer dies. My groups opened up with the small base dies vs the normal rcbs die set.
