Wow that's fast indeed. Thanks for watching.
I've been using the 300 Ham'r the past couple of years for hog hunting here in Texas. I built an 11.3", 16" and 18", got carried away I guess, I mostly use the 18" for hog hunting with thermal. I have only used the 130 grain Hot Core so far, but I just picked up 200 rounds of the 125 grain Pro Hunter ammo on sale and free shipping, will try them in the near future. I hope this cartridge catches on better and we can get more manufacturers loading ammo cheaper.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Will be looking forward to any follow up videos on the 300 Ham'r. Your videos come at a good time for me as I am considering reloading starting with the 300 Ham'r as loaded ammo is now pretty expensive. I use the 300 Ham'r for hogs so my preference are the mid weight 125-135 grain bullets for their combo of weight and speed. Thanks for the video.
Glad to see that you got the same great results with the Ham'r as i did. I haven't tried the 110 lehigh's yet. Im not a copper fan, but they seem like a winner. I believe they just moved up to next on my list. My 110vmax loads are almost identical to yours, and great fun to shoot. I look forward to more 300 Ham'r videos. Thank you sir!

Nice. With the 110gr projectiles, I've found a1680 to be better with velocity due to being able to fit more powder in the case and being slightly faster burning.

With Ruger's new SFAR rifle, developing cartridges like this to fit in the AR-15 platform is now irrelevant. You can now get a AR-15 sized and weight rifle that can shoot 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Can't wait for more development and additional cartridges to come along with that rifle line. Hopefully other manufacturers will take notice.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
24 күн бұрын
True, but the SFAR is proprietary for both upper and lower and made to reduce weight instead of an AR-10 platform. The 300 Ham'r only requires a barrel swap for Milspec AR-15 type lowers and uppers. That said, Ruger SFAR is a great innovation indeed.

Had a lot of people asking me about this one, glad you did a vid! We're moving at about the same speed and weight offerings as a grendel, out of the same platform and barrel length, so what are we gaining? Of course a .30 projectile has different wound characteristics and id rather hit large game with a wider projectile :), I cant say I would be inclined particularly to hog hunt with grendel. There could be other considerations for what someone may have on their reloading bench as far as other calibers that use 6.5/.30. Dont mean to wander off into ballistics theory but

picked up a barrel for this a few weeks after he introduced it. ive done a lot of load work, and can say 2 things. #1 Bill should have used a rifle length gas tube not that goofy intermediate one, and #2 it will exceed easily anything Wilson lists for data without getting into any pressure issues. side note, CFE BLK does very well compressed!
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
16 күн бұрын
Maybe so. But I am not used to loading compressed loads yet. None of my other caliber/cartridges (16) have needed to get to compressed to have maximum velocity with certain powders. Even Bill Wilson suggest 1/2 of a grain less than max in his testing. Thanks for contributing your experience here.
@Subtlenimbus
7 күн бұрын
That’s true about the CFE BLK. With some of my loads I have to trickle the powder into the case slowly or it will bulge when seating the bullet, but I don’t get any pressure signs.
Don't know what the present situation with Hammer bullets is currently but previously it was the case that they used a somewhat brittle alloy with which the 'petals' would initially break off quickly and the base of the bullet would continue penetration. A competing bullet manufacturer I use employs a softer alloy and the petals fold and bend but generally do not break off. The wound channel of these bullets is devastating. As shooting for me is all about killing hogs and culling undesirable exotic Aoudad . . . killing power is most of what I care about. I would love to hear from anyone who has done comparisons of solid copper bullets.

I've noticed that the Wilson barrels come in two rifling choices. What did you select, and why? Good shooting and nice accuracy for your new cartridge and barrel.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
23 күн бұрын
I chose the 1-15 twist to shoot the lighter weight bullets that provide more velocity and somewhat flatter trajectory. Also there are more bullet choices in the 30cal. 95-135gn. Bill Wilson says on his blog that the 1-13 twist is better for heavier bullet weight stabilization. Thanks for watching.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Thanks, I've never gotten an answer from the Wilson website. I'm glad you knew the difference. I figured it had to do with bullet weight, but I like to get answers from the horses mouth so have stayed away from the barrel. I see he says he gets 100 to 200 FPS more from the Ham'r than you can from the 7.62x39, but for the price of the barrel or barreled action that Wilson sells I think I might stay with the Russian caliber. You could shoot for the rest of your life and not break even even if you hand load.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
8 күн бұрын
@@jerrywiese9722 Better to stay with what you are confident with. Again my purpose for my set-up is as a limited range 30 cal. to replace my old 30-30 saddle rifle. In my latest test I am shooting a 130gn speer @2,550fps. My barrel, gas tube, gas block and magazine total $330. But reloading costs are not included at least for many years of shooting.
I haven't hand loaded any ammunition for a few years, so humor me. If a person already has a 300 blk, what kind of velocities can be achieved from similar weight projectiles?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
24 күн бұрын
The 300 Ham'r shoots the 308 caliber bullets up to 160 grain limit. It exceeds the velocity of the 300 blk. by 200-300 fps with similar weight bullets and is inteded strickly as a supersonic cartridge, therefore it is flatter shooting. The 300 blk can shoot the heavier weight (over 160gns) and can be shot subsonic. Both cartridges in an AR-15 platform have a magazine limit of 2.260." Because the Black out has a shorter case, it allows for longer, heavier bullets than the 300 Ham'r.

There’s only one caveat with your statements. If you subscribe to the belief that you need a minute of 1000 ft lbs to take a deer, the bullet weighs you using are done at 200 yards. To get past that you’re going to have to go to 150s. The best you’ll do with those is just over a inch+ @100, you’ll drop below that 1000 ft lbs mark somewhere around 250. It’s just not a 300 yard gun if you believe you need 1000 ft lbs.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
23 күн бұрын
Agree with you, but also I have to accept the conclusions of Mr. Wilson and his experiences of taking Deer out to 300 yards. For me and used as a truck gun with the 18" barrel, shots will be under 200 yards. Next test will be 125's and 130's. Mr. Wilson states that these weights are the better choice for the 1-15 barrel twist.
