Hello my friend! I know this video is a few months old now, but I wanted to let you know how this worked out for me. My wife likes my cooking (thanks chef!). She had mentioned in passing that she had been craving French toast, and that we should hit up our favorite little breakfast place sometime soon. Yesterday morning (Sunday), I let her sleep in and went for it. All I had for berries were strawberries, but I made a syrup with them and some Myers rum. Fantastic!! I made the French toast pretty much the same as yours, with a side of thick-cut bacon. My wife said this was the best French toast she had ever had. I told her that if you want to make great French toast, you consult a great French chef!! As always, Thank You Chef!!

As a child in the 60's my favorite breakfast was 'pain perdu', or lost bread that my grandmother would cook. Only plain white bread in simple egg, milk and vanilla, and then powdered sugar on top. I suppose we didn't have 'fancy' breads or other ingredients to add in. Anyway, it is a fond memory for me and a dish I cook every so often. One day I'll have to try this 'souped up' version, I am sure it is delicious. Sometimes though, I think we have some of our earliest 'fond' memories that involve food, and the way it was cooked by, perhaps, our grandmother...and no other recipe, no matter how 'good', ever comes close. In any case, as always, thank you chef for sharing. I'm looking forward to adding a bit of Grand Marnier to my lost bread!

French toast is normally made with stale bread that is dipped in milk to soften it a bit. French toast is an old recipe for not wasting stale bread. Doing it with brioche is no longer French toast. And the real French name is "the lost bread"

First the ONYO, don’t use water- water is the enemy, add some wine, use lots of butter, all those wonderful things you’ve taught us. And I’m applying all these principles to old favorite recipes like chili for example and these old recipes are coming to life. It’s like eating in a restaurant every night. And of course were using good food / whole food - none of that boxed crap they sell in the grocery store. Thank you for improving my life. Happy healthy 2022 to all!

I made this as a treat for my woman. Unfortunately, my previous attempts at making french toast always ended in disaster. But, this time it turned out surprisingly well. I think the key was choosing fresh bread from the deli at our local grocery. Fresh cut strawberries and blackberries, a sprinkle of powdered sugar, with authentic maple syrup, and it was a masterpiece. Good to the last bite. Thanks, Chef Jean-Pierre!

"... So simple a child could do it .." This was my first 'no measurement' 'fancy' recipe my mom taught me! We used "Texas Toast" bread, cut into 2 triangles after cooking, stacked prettily on the plate and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The syrup was heated in a water bath on the stove (pre-microwave). My dad and siblings were delighted in our 'creation' - I think I was in second or third grade. Thank you for the sweet memories. You are the best!

Also, French toast is a favorite at our house, and it's not just for breakfast. My 13 year old makes EXCELLENT French toast with a warm mixed berry compote and a little bit of marscapone sweetened with a little honey, and a dash of powered sugar. It looks and tastes like a fancy restaurant dish, but truly is so easy a child can do it - because they do! My kiddo makes their French toast exactly as you do and it's every bit as good as you say it is!

@@y2ksw1 I don't have a recipe exactly. The recipe Chef provided in the description is pretty much what we do for the French Toast part. I always make homemade bread, I have a more dense white bread family recipe I use because it holds up well, but sometimes we use Challah bread which is delicious. We like using bread we make because we can slice it however thick we like it. For the berry compote, we pretty much follow the same process Chef did in his video and recipe, although we generally cook it down a bit more so it's kind of in between a chunky texture and a really thick syrup since we don't put syrup on ours. If fresh berries aren't in season, we use frozen ones and that has the added benefit of having a little extra water which helps it become a more syrupy texture. We don't really measure, we add sugar to taste. For the marscapne, it's the same, we just add honey to taste to get to the sweetness we like and then add some lemon zest, again to taste, to balance out the sweet. Really you could sweeten the marscapne with powdered sugar, or any sweetening agent you prefer, we just like the texture and flavor the honey adds. Sorry I don't have specific measurements, we tend to cook by look, feel, texture, and taste, so it's really what feels good to you and what you like.

This is beauty. Real French Toast! I am reminded of the time, almost 50 years ago, that I stopped at a restaurant in California for breakfast and ordered French Toast. They made it with two different quick breads--banana bread and some kind of sweet pecan bread. Served with strong French Roast 100% Colombian coffee. That was a truly amazing experience!

My friend! Delicious. I had never thought of toasting the “toast” first. I LOVE this! I bake breads, so my next loaf is going to be a brioche! Thank you for all the tips chef!

CJP, reminds me of a French guy I knew years ago in RVSD California when I lived there. Same personality. He was cool. This is similar to how I cook mine. This is an awesome recipe 👌. God bless you 🙏. ❤

I made some this morning and followed the recipe except for the bread: I could not find brioche at the local grocery store so I settled for a loaf I sliced to my liking. I used some triple sec and rum for the sauce and used blackberries only (again that's all I could find). I strained some of the sauce and added a teaspoon to my coffee mug. Wow! nice too! Merci beaucoup Chef Jean-Pierre. I will give your Coquilles St-Jacque a try in the New Year. Whishing everyone a Happy New Year and Happy cooking!

French Toast was always a childhood favorite for me, because I could cook it at a very young age. Mom and dad always got some thick Texas Toast from the grocery store, and I beat the eggs with milk to make it creamy and added cinnamon and sugar and put some maple syrup on it, and it was always enjoyable to eat. I always had fun making it, really! I like the fruits! it would only make it better. French Toast bread never stayed on the shelf in our house very long. I never tried toasting my bread first, but I bet it would only make it better. I may have to make some this coming weekend to enjoy!

Love your videos. I just tumbled upon on it and am glad I did. Your cheerfulness is contagious. My mom used to make for us when we were kids and now I make for my kids often times chef, but I let it soak. It takes quite a bit of time to toast/cook inside of the bread but it's delicious when it is soaked and toasted. ..and I don't toast the bread beforehand. I love how you coated the berries and topped them. I am going to try it tomarrow for breakfast. Thank you.for the lovely video once again.

So I tried this recipe today. The first two I made were for my wife. I burned them and grew frustrated. I put them off to the side and made two more. Those I managed to not burn and gave them to my wife. She absolutely loved them. I served myself the two burned ones. The absolute best French toast I’ve ever tasted! I’ve been cooking French toast for years and everyone loved it but this recipe is on another level. Thanks, Chef!!!
