For once I think he mentioned "cook with your eyes." Sooo often I terribly estimate measurements because I rely on just the amount it feels and looks like. I'd honestly expect better from Gordon if its meant to be educational so people might need it, but after years cooking in a deli I don't measure anything really unless it's my first time or one my first.
@millersj
2 жыл бұрын
@@RJ-es6og I first learned to cook by watching Gordon's "Ultimate Cookery Course," and he didn't measure anything in the entire series. I don't think he ever even said the word tablespoon. It was intimidating to follow along with, but once I realized what a "bunch" of this or a "touch" of that was to my taste, it drastically improved my confidence in the kitchen.

Think my wife has been learning from Gordon. His “just a tablespoon” and my wife’s “just a minute” are eerily similar.

My only explanation for Gordon Ramsay's recent carreer his that years of trying to involve his kids in these videos in order to be more of a family oriented man despite his workaholics nature ended with a "fuck it, I'm just going to grill breakfast all over the world to outdad every dad ever".

The way he measures reminds me of many Asian parents, including my own. My parents and my Asian friends' parents always looked at measuring cups and spoons with disdain and never allowed their use. It was terrible cooking without them at first when I was younger, but after doing it for a long while, you get this crazy fine tuning of cooking instinct and now I no longer ever measure anything, including for new recipes.

I’m French and we don’t actually call this “French Bread”, we call it “Pain perdu”, which means “Lost Bread”. It is called like this because we traditionally use old, dry bread that hasn’t been eaten yet. The dry (or “lost”) bread is then cooked again, topped with either jam or sugar, and so is given ‘a new life’.
