    I know it'd be hard to translate to a doc but I'd love to see the No Clip team do something on the history of MUDs. Fun little piece of gaming subculture history. Definitely a big part of my gaming youth.

    Artic Eggs was such a delight. A game based around a solid, addictive mechanic. Glad you guys featured that. Also, Lorelei is really humbling me. I think i might not be smart enough for it. But I'm not giving up just yet! Also @dannyodwyer have you played INDIKA yet? i Jeremy covered it a few eps ago, but its been maybe the most unique and memorable narrative gaming experienced I've had all year. Just wanted to know what you think about it. thanks you guys!

    I didn't watch the whole thing so I don't know if it came back to @dannyodwyer but the early text-based MUD may have been Mirrorworld (1986) rather than Rimworld?

    Danny the visual issues you are sescribing with Hellbalde are probably bc of the extremely heavy chromatic aberration the game uses, and the devs in their infinite wisdom did not include a toggle for this can be turned off on pc via .ini edit at least

    I largely ignore AAA games development, so I looked this up, and oh my god. I don’t think I’ve seen that level of chromatic aberration since the outer wilds, and the fact it can’t be toggled in hellblade without editing the ini is INSANE.

    I get its more a reflection on me personally and it manifests in a lot of different ways, but as someone who has and does deal with psychosis I absolutely hate the way its portrayed in the first Senua game at least. I think its more it just reminds me of my own problems rather than it deals with them poorly but I would still rather stick tacks in my eyes than be subjected to the gamified version of something like that.

    A common Canadian experience is having no idea a store/brand/etc is exclusive to Canada until you casually mention something like "Value Village" in a conversation and all your American friends are like "What the hell is Value Village?".

    Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 (That is the actual title. For some reason they switched it around.) is great for me personally probably because 99% of games I play for the story. I can understand that people want games that are more gamey, but I think just as many want the opposite, at least some of the times. I thought the presentation of this is just out of this world (I played it on PC all maxed out). I think another big problem can be the presentation of this itself, as it is very very intense with the binaural audio. Tastes are just different and as Hellblade is very specific with what it tries to convey, it certainly isnt for everyone. I am actually surprised that it isnt "Jeremy game" though. Edit: There is a section later in the game, probably shortly after the two hours Danny played, where things are happening in a cave and if that doesnt sell anyone on what they do with the presentation, it just isnt for you. Also for anyone that hasnt played the first game, dont worry, they have a great recap video at the start. The first is well worth a playthrough still too though. I just did that before in VR. Edit 2: I already have Lorelei on my wishlist. On the other hand though concerning taste, as many good things I have heard about Cryptmaster, that one is just not a game for me. We are having so many games for so many tastes these days, I very much choose what I play, which I think is a great position for us as gamers.

    I think mgs 2 had to be reworked and Kojima allegedly didn't want to release it after 9/11 because he was worried about criticizing the US and the military industrial complex so soon after the attack.

    It's fine to prefer action-y games over narrative ones and skip cutscenes. But lots of people do like that stuff or games that are a mix. Those games do know they are video games. They're just different. Sounds like Danny has, like many people, become Dark Souls-pilled. Not every game needs a complex parry poise battle system.

  • @dannyodwyer

    @dannyodwyer

    Ай бұрын

    I tried to communicate that this was a subjective preference and that clearly other people do like games which put narrative first (and to Jesse's point; I do too probably, when I connect with the narrative - which I didn't with Hellblade 2). I mean Artic Eggs is doing it for me, and that's hardly Dark Souls.

  • @GardinerAlan

    @GardinerAlan

    @@dannyodwyer Fair point. You did make it clear-ish it was subjective but in a bit of a rambly way that seemed more gameplay-related than narrative. I think I'm just getting annoyed that a lot of gaming influencers have become Dark Souls pilled and at this point can't seem to imagine/accept any other combat system.

  • @EricShoe

    @EricShoe

    @@dannyodwyer I think Hellblade 2 being a direct continuation of Senua’s story would make it hard for anyone to connect with the story if you haven’t played the original. Doesn’t help the recap cutscene is woefully inadequate.
