    I wouldn't call the commenter an asshole necessarily. He just has a different sense of humor than my own. I mean, going back to this video I find that the jokes are a bit too repetitive imo and that's something I've tried working on in my more recent videos. But, plenty of people have found this video funny and interesting so it doesn't really matter what I or anyone else thinks as long as someone enjoys it.

    These jokes were bad, but the fact that the bad jokes are consistently committed to is what makes them good. I think part of what makes this video so good is that you begin a challenge that you cannot do, and then proceed to do everything else if you could do it, so it's still interesting. And at the end it's like 'So, is it possible to do this challenge to which this entire video is dedicated? No.' and then the video ends not long after. It's like hearing a story that seems like it's going somewhere but actually isn't, and I feel like that is a fairly unique experience. Not quite what was done here, but it's like rambling about some story as if it's important but nothing of interest happens, and then you get distracted by the game, thus abruptly ending the strange story, and then a little bit later you start telling another story. I don't really know how to describe how it feels other than successfully making me mildly anticipate a lettuce sandwich. And that's a talent.

    Although some of the jokes were funny, at least for me there were a lot more jokes that missed than jokes that landed. I want to be constructive though, so here is my feedback, in order of importance: -*Self-deprecating jokes aren't funny by default.* Being self-deprecating is funnier than the joke being on the audience, but that doesn't make it automatically land, especially when the same 5 jokes are made over and over. -*Creativity is essential.* To be honest, a lot of the humor felt super repetitive, and a lot of the time the punchline was predictable within the first few words. The jokes that were funny generally had some sort of subversion of expectation, whether it was in the direction that the joke went (like the dust joke at 3:01 or the "infinity instruments" at 4:33), or in the way that the joke was worded (like at 1:09, where you could've made a hip-hop song with more lines like that). None of these jokes were exceptionally funny, but they were the closest examples of replicable techniques for humor that I could find in the video. -*If you're going to make a recurring joke in a video, space out the joke so it's less slapstick and more unpredictable.* Subverting the expectations of an audience is key, which is what makes recurring jokes so much funnier when they manage to land. Think about making other jokes as a setup for the recurring joke. Make other jokes that are irrelevant to Brad and your wife. When 6 minutes later into the video, the same story about Brad is mentioned again, it is much funnier since we've (the audience) already forgotten about Brad 5 minutes ago* -*Stay relevant to the situation.* If you aren't doing or haven't already done something even closely related to denying an orgasm in the video, don't make a joke about it. If you aren't doing or haven't already done something even closely related to throwing bodies at a problem in the video, don't make a joke about it. Dying a lot doesn't count, because the viewer needs an experience to actually relate you dying a lot to the joke of throwing bodies at a problem. Think about how much funnier this would have been if you were playing a different game and had actually thrown bodies at something to solve the problem, like throwing poppers at the carnivorous plants in RainWorld, then you made a joke about how much you were dying by relating it to that previous experience. Make the joke work in the context of the video, because although the "orgasm-denier" joke made me chuckle, if you made it right after not giving a character in a game what they really badly wanted, like choosing to not give Hyetta a third shabriri grape or denying the enemy an ace in Valorant by hiding instead of trying to win** , it would have been much funnier. -*Use present-tense rather than past-tense.* The difference may seem subtle, but it makes a massive difference in the quality of commentary. For example, let's try changing the already pretty funny joke at 4:54, where you say "... and I swore I saw the end of the universe". I think it'd be a lot funnier if you said, "... and - HOLY SHIT!" *skip a beat for comedic timing* "I think I just saw the end of the universe." Listening to commentary in the present-tense immerses me in the experience, because I feel like it is happening right now. I think I see where you're trying to go with this style though. It seems somewhat similar to a League of Legends KZreadr called "Rav", with the identifier "@ravlol". I don't mean this in a rude way, but I think you may want to check out some of his most popular videos to get some new inspirations for jokes. Even if you don't play LoL, I think you'd get something out of watching his videos, as although a lot of the jokes relate to LoL, some can be understood even without the context of the game. The comments even tend to give away which jokes they found funniest, so after watching some of his popular videos, just scroll down to the comment section to get a better understanding of what people found funny and why. Hopefully you found some of this advice constructive! You seemed to have a growth mindset given how you responded to the pinned comment by HackedUpForBarbeque, and so I felt that I could offer some feedback from my perspective without offending you! *Just like how your wife forgets about you whenever she's with Brad. **The joke at the beginning of this video about being a pussy would have been 10x funnier if you had made the joke after doing something like this.

    There is technically a way to glitch under the sand i think? Im not sure tho, nor am i sure if it does exist that its possible todo it before starting the loop

  • @rattmanthestupid

    @rattmanthestupid

    7 ай бұрын

    Yeah, I've been looking into it more recently after accidentally glitching through Ember Twins surface and into the cave (happens at 3:30 in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWpk1tiunbjZmrA.html). I also have made games in Unity and know a little bit on how the Unity physics system works (and how all video games have to work). Basically, all games are constricted by your computers frames per second (FPS) when running updates. So, the fastest a game can calculate the physics is dependent on your frame rate. So, if I'm moving 20 m/s with a wall that is that is 10 meters away from me, I can phase through a wall in a game by lowering my frame rate. Pretty much, if in less than 1 frame I go from being on one side of the wall to the other due to my speed out pacing my frame rate, the game cannot calculate that I hit the wall since there is no frame of me actually hitting said wall. So I could theoretically slow down Outer Wilds by so much that I meet this requirement. Now, this all sounds good and easy on paper, but it's an entirely different problem in practice. The problem truly arises with how thick the sand volume is on Ash Twin. The reason I was able to glitch through Ember Twin is because the surface was pretty thin, I was moving fast and the surface needed time to load in. All of these created a long enough buffer window for the physics update to fail, but the same cannot be said for ash twin. Ash twin only has a texture LOD (Level of Detail) for the the sand volume. The sand volume cannot be unload due to it being a non-static (moving) object. So the physics update happens far sooner than it does on Ember Twin and the thickness of the sand volume means my frame rate would have to be agonizingly low for even a hope that I make it through. This isn't even mentioning how the fact I'd have to find a malware free external FPS limiter app that would work with Outer Wilds. So, is it doable? probably. Will I do it? maybe. Will it take a long time? oh most definitely.

    Yes, nothing is simulated besides orbits when you start the game for the first time. When you look at the nomai statue, the game loads a new version of the solar system with everything simulated. Pretty much, the solar system when first loading doesnt have an exploding sun, a brittle hollow that breaks apart, an hourglass twin that actually moves sand and an interloper that gets swallowed by the sun. I've actually played around in this version of the solar system for like 3 hours trying to map out a way to get all the ship logs without starting the loop. As for the "ship logs in zero loops" experiment, Gabbro works for the Time Variant Authority and makes this challenge completely impossible.

The loop don't explode the sun, sun naturally explode and then the loop begins. But the video is still impossible because if player destroy loop without notice it, how does the loop happens before?

    @@batmirin35 Looking at the statue is what starts the 22-minute timer in-game. You get infinite time to explore otherwise, it's like that so that you don't have the sun explode on you while you're exploring the tutorial area. Obviously that's not how it should work story-wise, it's just bending the rules a little since it can't affect anything outside the beginning of your very first loop unless you use exploits or cheats like in the video.

    I see alot of criticism on your video but your responses have been telling so I'll add some constructive criticism. Be more of you, less of other KZreadrs, if you're going to add commentary after recording then focus more on jokes that last rather than referential humour, I'd also tone down on the self-depricating humour as your viewers don't know you. You're very likeable, I just think your focus is off. On a positive, something youre doing right is focusing on interesting topics. Outer Wilds needs more humour as the community is mostly "this changed my view on life" kinda stuff, so this video was definitely a breath of fresh air. You seem really open to feedback, so im excited to see how you evolve as a creator.

    Thanks for the response. I definitely get where you're coming from with the "referential humor". Thinking about it, that probably is my biggest flaw as a creator. I just like other creators too much and want to share their stuff with others. I actually had a video planned and recorded (that will probably never come out, at least in the state it's in now) where I was just talking about small creators that I enjoy. Maybe I will finish the video talking about small creators. That way these challenge videos can be more easily enjoyed by others (as I can cut the referential humor) and I can still talk about the creators I enjoy and share their content with others. Honestly, my biggest goal as a KZreadr is getting to a point where I could do collab videos with smaller channels and share that spotlight with them.

    You try way too hard to be funny. It’s better to just be yourself and speak the way you actually would to another person. You make a joke in pretty much every sentence. There needs to be a way bigger break between each joke or have no jokes at all. And more video editing can help the jokes land better too

    @@user-rv9ty9br3q not that weird. Pretty sure the sand is a volume meaning it is a very thick sphere. Most clipping is done due to unloaded volumes or thin volumes. thin volumes can be clipped through by moving fast enough that unity's physics engine doesn't have time to calculate the fact that you're running into a solid object. unloaded objects need time to load so moving faster than the frame-update for unity will also allow for clipping through objects. the problem with the sand on ash twin is it's a thick volume that is always loaded. since the sand on ash twin moves, unity cannot unload it. so yeah, that's why it's nearly impossible to clip through the sand on ash twin.
