Antique Bronze Kerosene Stove Restoration
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello folks! Today I will show you my new restoration of an antique bronze kerosene stove. Year of manufacture, 1890-1920. I found this antique item at a flea market. The condition of the item speaks for the prices, age-old patina and rust. But I will save this kerosene stove! Let's start the restoration!
The first duty I took off the lid, partially shook out the debris and dust that were in the kerosene and cleaned the surface of the object with the help of a sandblaster. It's amazing how quickly and cleanly the sandblaster cleans the surface. The most interesting thing I found was 3 stamps, two digits and one stamp that I didn't understand what it meant. If anyone knows, write in the comments.
Next, I began manual sanding of the brass part of the stove. I used sandpaper from 100 to 500 grit and then polished the surface.
During the processing process, I took out an old piece of wick from the kerosene stove, it was funny, and I took out the second piece when I washed the kerosene tank.
I sanded the second part of the kerosene (after sandblasting) and used three types of protection to protect against corrosion. The first is oil and fire (as in the variant with cast iron), the second is a means of blackening the surface and the third protection is a refractory paint. By the way, it can withstand 650 degrees of heat.
After that, I inserted a new wick into each of the sections and made a test of this old kerosene. I think you will like this restoration video. Thanks for your attention!
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Very well done as always! I was so happy to see that you were finally able to get a sandblaster. I enjoyed seeing you restore something a little different this time. Keep up the good work, and God bless.

Good evening! Thank you so much for your attention and kind words

Wow! Alex this looked great!//
What a whole new life it now has! Good job!!!
lookin' good, old stove seem to work better than the new gas ones, keep well..
Looks great! Your blade work is wonderful but it's nice to see other things every now and then. Small hint: when cleaning the inside if things you can't reach brushes or fingers into, adding small steel shot or even white rice with the water will help scrub the insides. Give it some vigorous swirling/shaking and then dump out.

Greetings ! Thank you for your attention and advice! I didn't know about it, now they will know. Interesting!
Excellent job, and it seems I have to take back all bad things I said about sandblaster - neither rust remover nor electrolysis would be suitable means of bringing back to beauty this stove. But it doesn't just take right tools for the job - it takes the right man! Always a pleasure watching your videos, I hope to see this stove on your cooking channel soon.

This came out very well even if there wasn't any hidden gold. I was surprised to see this project though, I mean no fancy carved handle, no leather sheave.
We had a similar stove that my brothers and I used for camping. I was the cook. This video brings back sweet memories. Thanks.

Great restoration. Did you know why there was so much wick inside the tank? That is to prevent spills. This is a large tank and a slight movement can spill the kerosene and create a fire. The tank is almost full of the wick to absorb the kerosene and provide a damping barrier for spills.

Hey, EVERYBODY needs scrambled eggs at least once a week!!😁
I wonder how many potential antique jewels like these are thrown away never to be seen again? It is a shame most of us don't know what we have, but think it is junk.
I have used something similar sixty years ago for camping in the woods. I think I got wicks from a company that sells all kinds of globes and oil lamp wicking. Trimming the top edge as straight as you can gives a better burn and less soot, much like an oil lamp. Was there another piece to this? Mine had a steel pan holder (rack) on top where you used the wire cage. So enjoy your work!

Very nice restoration. For a moment I was worried you would have to solder holes hiding under those crusty chunks you had to chisel off of the kerosene tank. Should there be a stand for it to raise above the table for better airflow through the central hole? It seemed to burn pretty good as it was but that hole must be there for a reason. Also, what is the sauce you used on the egg?
@ScrewsAndTools
Жыл бұрын
Greetings! Thanks for the feedback. I was lucky, the kerosene stove turned out to be interesting and useful to them, I can take it fishing) And as for the sauce at the end, this Georgian sauce is called Tkemali, made from the berries (fruits) of the tree. We cook it at home, homemade delicious and healthy and most importantly natural. There are different tastes, sweet medium and sour and spicy, and the colors are different, but I love everything very much.
