    Sick commanders and a sick game. Here are my thoughts: Ryan: On turn 1, there might be an argument to hold up the REB and use it as spot removal before you untap, depending on what you think Folger and Garrett are going to do. If they're likely to sandbag rather than play into it you've put them both a turn behind at the cost of giving Mike a card. If they're likely to pull a Jerry and plow through, then the counter mode is absolutely the right play. The stack interaction in this game was outstanding, especially the Noxious Revival and Animate Dead/WGD battles, but ESPECIALLY the battle on the Gilded Drake. I also really love this Elsha list. It does literally everything I want to do in Magic.

    a couple other misplays imo, from Garrett. First, was Dispelling the Worldy tutor from Folger. Folger wasn't a threat at the time, with less mana than Mike and no board presence -- I don't think the Worldly Tutor is as threatening as just holding it up for something Mike does, or forcing through your own threats. You can see that immediately after he untaps, his Carpet of Flower's gets Swan Songed, and he has no more Dispel. Another misplay here is Flusterstorming the Swan Song when it can just be paid for, essentially throwing that card away.

    Interesting interaction: Ryan could have actually still cast madness cards with Rest in Peace on the board (they get discarded into exile). He probably just had some instants to play but given that he had 5 mana during Garret's turn he might have played some madness cards as blockers etc.

  • @PlayingWithPowerMTG

    @PlayingWithPowerMTG

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's true! Madness does get around exile clauses of things like Necropotence. However, rest in peace prevents any card from hitting a graveyard from anywhere. So if you don't cast madness from exile, it goes to it's owners graveyard, but rest in peace basically just makes it go back to exile permanently.

    As per usual these games are awesome :D One minor nit on Imp's Mischief/Force of Will - the end result worked the way you wanted it to, but a spell can never target itself on the stack (CR 115.5). The "letter of the law" approach is to have Imp's Mischief change Force of Will's target to Imp's Mischief. Then, once Imp's Mischief finishes resolving and leaves the stack, Force of Will is targeting nothing and will be countered on resolution (works the same for any other Misdirection effect). Of course, this could be me interpreting "itself" differently than you meant it in the video, but just in case... :)

    It was a misnomer in narration. The imp's mischief redirected force of will to Imp's Mishchief. We should've been more clear in the narration. Sorry!

    @@PlayingWithPowerMTG From watching the rest of the videos in your series, it's pretty clear you all know what you're doing. It just caught me off guard when I first heard the narration, but looking back on it, the wording could definitely be interpreted to where it makes sense. If nothing else, hopefully that provides some detail to the viewers on the intricacies of Misdirection/Counterspell interactions. :) Keep making kick-ass videos!

    Spells cannot target themselves, so the Imp's mischief would have to redirect the Force of will to itself, meaning the Force still resolved.
