Love this video and this channel, glad I stumbled across it while searching Volrath the Shapestealer EDH. Volrath is my homeboy, my best and most prized EDH deck is mono black Volrath the Fallen. I was super excited when this card was spoiled and can't wait to build around it. Best of luck to you and your channel!

@@KingofJank A lot of it, yes. All the basics are Ice Age snow covereds. The Sol Ring is signed. It tuns Sewers of Estark because Volrath EDH is literally the only deck ever that card is playable in. The Dark Ritual is summer magic.

Tetzimoc is auto include. You could also run fireshrieker and grappling hook for some more consistent double strike.

@@KingofJank yeah I noticed that sultai doesn't get a lot of double strike enablers, it will be fun to play this deck

3 years late for this commander, but since everyone forgot out him I'm going to make it everyone's problem. Also, "blight agent" + "invisible stalker" + any card with Scavange + any card with toxic 3 or more all in your graveyard, then cast "necrotic ooze", pay the scavenge to add counters to ooze, copy with volrath, attack, gg.

I like Carnifex Demon. It has the ability to pay a black, remove a -1 counter from it to place a -1 on each other creature. You can copy it with Volrath and trade counters between the 2 of them while putting more and more on all of your opponents creatures

I'm getting my volrath off a buddy and I just told him I'm gonna figure out some silly sauce with it :) Also please make a convoluted combos video for him....

I'm very eager to pair volrath with giant adephage to make nonlegendary copies of himself.

Do you mind going more in depth into the Jodah's avenger/blighted agent combo? Since Jodah's ability names itself specifically, won't the ability fizzle when Volrath's name is no longer Jodah's agent because the ability fails to find the permanent that activated it?

So I don't have exact rulings, but when a card name's itself, it is not looking for a card with that name as there could be multiple of that card on the board, it is however making a reference to that permanent. So in most cases, when you activate an ability like that one, it is linked to the permanent, no matter what it is named. It is part of the reason you can do some crazy weird stuff with Mirage Mirror and responding to itself on the stack.

@@KingofJank Don't need that many really. Mana dorks (likely Elves) are already part of the ramping, Kraj is a Plan B in case people anticipated Volrath's combo. I intend to use Infect and +1/+1 counter as a shell to keep people guessing and weary of death in one hit. Once everything dies because of their interloping, I drop Necrotic Ooze. If that gets killed, Body Double. I still grieve at the number of Concordant Crossroads I gave away. T_T

In your Jodah's Avenger Blighted Agent example, is it not also possible to let thee double strike and shadow ability resolve and then turn into the agent for the same effect?

I know this is what you have to do with cards like Scion of the Ur Dragon but that's mostly because he loses the ability to transform again

Im not sure...my gut would say that if you let the abilities resolve, and then change into the agent, then the agent text would overwrite the added abilities. But I can't say for sure, sorry.

@@timk1719 The question was not about turning him into another creature, it was if you let the Double Strike and Shadow effects resolve on Volrath Jodah's Avenger, than do the given Double Strike and Shadow abilities carry over to the Volrath blighted agent.

No decklist, but I am adding all cards from these videos into tappedout decks for easier viewing. MTG Goldfish did a good budget deck tech for Volrath.

You're a bit outdated on your rulings: 205.4d. Any permanent with the supertype “legendary” is subject to the state-based action for legendary permanents, also called the “legend rule” (see rule 704.5k). 704.5k.
