It wasn't that Castiel didn't want to shake Sam's hand. He's from heaven and doesn't know the customs and society norms down here, so he was confused about what was going on at first.

Yeah that makes so much sense, I don’t even think about the fact that they probably don’t act like humans or meet them often 😅

I think the reason Castiel didn't immediately shake Sam's hand is because he's not used to handshakes like ever. I seriously doubt anyone's shaken Castiel's hand in more than a few millenia! 😂 So, I think Cass was just surprised and caught off guard.

That might be a valid point 😂 I just knew they were reluctant about Sam so I didn’t even think about the fact that they probably don’t interact with humans all that much, and angels probably don’t shake hands 🙈

I enjoy this episode a lot. I love Castiel, and his actor, Misha Collins. He is amazing. I also love how you want the angels to just explain everything fully. Ah, Cora, if the angels explained everything, if the brothers communicated, then we wouldn't have 15 seasons of this show😂😂😂

It’s such a good episode! Castiel is still a fairly new character to me, but I really enjoy having him in the mix. Also almost laughed out loud at this in a public space 😂 that is so true, almost half of this show is just about bad communication 😂😂😂

Dean Winchester: Witches, man, so freaking skeevy. The title is a nod to the "Peanuts" comic strip. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966).

I think witches are cool in general, but in supernatural 👀 terrifying! I didn’t content the dots as I’ve never seen Peanuts in English, but I know the episode!💖

My heart broke for Sam when he found out the angels were not how he imagined. The title "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" is a reference to “It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” a special Halloween episode from the animated show The Peanuts (based on a comic strip). I really enjoyed this episode.

Truly, he who continuously believed in them and looked up to them😭 I did not get that reference at all, but it’s funny because I actually do know it! I just didn’t connect it because it was in English 🙈 it’s a great episode!

I like the militaristic way the angels are in this show, being soldiers in garrisons, and having things like chain-of-command. There is something I want to clarify about what was said but I'll leave it until a later episode just in case it's spoilerish.

@@CoraReacts Okay, so now you've met Anna (and she's said how only a few angels have actually spoken with God and they just have to take stuff on faith), the thing I wanted to clarify was Castiel was having doubts about heaven, his orders and the angels above him. He wasn't having doubts about his faith in God, or turning his back on his father. I don't think it would have been that spoilerish, but I didn't want to take the impact out of Anna explaining that to Dean, and learning that in episode ten.

This is one of my favorite episodes. I love castiel’s and dean’s talk at the park! It gave you a clue that cas wasn’t like uriel. Can’t wait for more! I can’t wait to hear what you think of Castiel by the end of season 4.

I can totally see why! It’s a really good episode, and the little talk at the end of it really made it for me. It’s going to be fun to see who as a person Castiel really is!

No one else seems to have explained it, so, here goes: T'o TP someone is to nocturnally"decorate" the front of the home of someone disliked, with toilet paper. Usually a suburban thing, involving landscaping as well as the house.

This was the episode where I was like, wow ok I love this show. I mean I loved it before but this episode turned it up a notch. The introduction of angels in the beginning of season 4 was great but when Castiel told Dean at the end that he has doubts too I was like ok this mind blowing, this is a different show. I remember back in season 1 or 2 you were saying how much you loved this show and I wrote a comment saying, if you think you love it now then just wait. This is what I was referring to.

Hi Cora, I am still just so happy to see you back and enjoying yourself! *The TP reference is a slang abreviation for "toilet papering" meaning wrapping rolls of toilet paper around and in trees, vehicles, houses. It became very popular among the youth to target someone they didnt like or thought was mean ir strange and TP something on their property. They also thought they were very funny doing it. *I need to touch on the one thing that made me grind my teeth in this episode, Supernatural failed to consult anyone regarding the pronunciation of Samhain which should have been "Sowen [like "now"] I have always been of two minds regarding the uncomfortable handshake. Angels clearly dont know or maybe care about human practices or Cas was hesitant to touch a hand that flowed with demon - tainted blood. *Dean's quip about "Jesus on a tortilla" refers to the various claims over the years that people see the face of Jesus or his mother, Mary in a rock, a food item, on a wall etc. and believers swarm to that town to see it and debunk it or pay homage. *Dean seeing those twisted masks and hearing those weird noises, suggests he may be remembering something in hell. *You talk about angels not explaining themselves - in the Bible, they often appear in a town/city and are God's weapon whatever that command may be. Even when they bring a message, it can be a test from God with no explanation. They are warriors and levels above lowly mankind. *The more Castiel is exposed to humans the more he begins to question is a parallel to any fundamental religious group that keeps to themselves afraid they might be tainted by sinful outsiders.

I’m very happy to be back, thank you!🥹 I feel like I should have understood the TP, but it said like that did just not make me context the dots hehe. I didn’t even connect what they were talking about just because of how they said it ngl, but I will say this isn’t the only time this will happen in an American show and it seems like many times they don’t look up how to say something unfortunately.🥲 As for the handshake I think maybe it might have been mostly that they don’t know human ways, but that well at least. I didn’t consider that in the moment but maybe he was just confused! I also had no idea there was a saying for when people think they’ve seen Jesus or Mary, that’s a fun way to say it. Those masks also terrifies me still, so scary! 👀 and in a way, the angels makes sense, but it’s frustrating nonetheless. Imagine how much easier everything would be if they just, talked 😂 I do look forward to see what Castiel might become!

In Castiel's defense for the hand-shaking thing, his...peopke skills are rusty. That's probably the first time he's shook a human's hand. As far as Sam's powers go, the reason for not using them is simply that they are DEMON powers. The angels don't elaborate because to them that's an obvious reason to them. For Uriel, the victory would have been destroying the town, stopping the seal, and Sam not using his powers.

Fair point, I didn’t even consider that whilst watching I just assumed that they were probably a bit hesitant about Sam in general 😅 I guess them being demon powers would be reason enough for the angels not to like it, but I’m still wondering if there is more than that as a reason 👀 I’m glad they saved the town at last 😅

Fun facts: The title is a reference to a Charlie Brown episode (an American cartoon made in 1966) both Jensen and Ashley Benson (Tracy Davis) were on Days of Our Lives but not at the same time. The couple in the opening are called The Wallace family this is a reference to Lindsay Wallace one of the children in John carpenters Halloween, nice little Halloween episode we got here some funny moments some scary, shame about the Angels.

The pronunciation of Samhain drove me insane as an Irish person. Samhain is simply Irish for November, but is also the name of an old Celtic festival that takes place on the night of Halloween. Halloween was born in Ireland. Samhain is pronounced sss-ow-en. The festival is also sometimes called Oíche Shamhna (eeha howna)

One of my favourite episodes - the whole angel business in general and the talk between Dean and Castiel specifically was the things that reinforced my investment into the story a lot! Can't specifically put my finger exactly on what makes it so good, but remember precisely the thought of "of, if we kick the narrative now in THIS direction, we might have a lot of fun, I hope they will do it well". And they will do it well =)

Dean hates witches. lol!

So far I am enjoying how they are portraying the angels. The razor blade scene was so yuck. The concern on Dean's face when Sam used his powers :/ As for TP'ing it is a tradition that we have as a prank. Mostly used on 'devil's night' which is the night before Halloween where you take rolls of toilet paper and throw them around houses/trees/cars so they unravel and leave a hellish mess to clean up. It was very common in the Detroit area but I am aware that it was not a full nation craze. I am glad you are enjoying this season, it is so fun to join you.

It’s really interesting and not at all what I expected them to be like. Yeah that scene really got to me 🥲✌️ I hate the way he looked at Sam when he used his powers, but I also understand it 😫I should have connected the dots, but for some reason “TP” said like that and not the full words I didn’t!!😅 some kids even do over that here, but usually in a small scale like the mailbox. I am really enjoying it! I’m so happy I can share it 🥰

Someone already left a brief comment about it, but to be more specific, in the us at least, there tends to be urban legends or myths or just straight up fears that some people have that during halloween some horrible people might put razor blades, needles, or drugs in childrens candy. In 2000 someone was charged for putting needles in chocolate bars, in 1984 a man was executed for putting cyanide in candy and killing his own son along with trying to kill several other kids, and as recent as 2022 you can find police reports of razor blades in candy. Some people say most of the reports police get are fake hoaxes for attention and completely deny that there have ever been any actual injuries or deaths related to that type of urban legend…but that just isnt true, which is why this fear still exists in many people here and will probably continue to for a long time. And even if most of the real cases are done by the childrens own parents, that doesn’t necessarily make it any less scary or worrisome 😅

The real fun of this season is how everything lines up so well by the end. Seeds have been planted in this episode to grow as the season progresses.

Everything about Samhain is wrong. It's pronounced Sawen and simply means summer's end. It's an important festival for witches and druids. Great episode though, even if it does irritate us druids.

Oooh interesting, maybe they mixed the lore together with the more modern one to make it more scary in this. When you write it like Sawen I do remember hearing that and I didn’t even make the connection to that celebration here. The show sometimes does do that unfortunately, with a lot of things 🥲

A metacarpal bone comes from the hand..palm bones. I think that noise that we heard when Dean looked at that mask was supposed to be the screaming of souls in hell. wow..I thought we were going to get through an episode without the obligatory "I did not see that coming".. nope, twice.,,oops, make that 3 times. must not type spoilers.. must not type spoilers...

A pretty solid episode that role reverses Sam and Dean’s views on ‘higher power’. Sam was always the firm believer the one to have faith but to have it shattered to see that what he put his faith in was dismissive and arrogant hurts him telling off Uriel shows his stance on faith is changed for good. Uriel himself is pretty much what you expect from those high in power they think all bellow them are insignificant and not worth their time. Dean who was always the cynic on these things actually has hope belief that since he of all people was pulled from Hell that maybe there is some good in the universe but he does not blindly trust Heaven as all good. Its why I like Dean he’s an individualist and he trusts people not the team they represent. Case was pretty thematic the demon that Halloween was created for I can’t believe Ashley Benson was on this show my friend who I got into SPN was a hardcore Pretty Little Liars fan and was ecstatic to see Hanna in this ep.

I really liked this episode, and it’ll be interesting what they make of the angels going further in to the series. I hate that one of the things that kept Sam calm and kept his hope up was the angels, and now that’s shattered…😭 I love the Halloween theme in this episode, and it’s fun to see actors from other series pop up in this one (although I had no clue because I never saw pretty little liars)!

I made it to season 7 of spn but let me say sam really agitated me season 4 and 5 I won't spoil but my opinion on sam this season and next season

I believe Castiel is higher than Uriel they’re of a similar age but here Castiel has more authority. If it came to someone higher than him in the garrison or an arch angel then Castiel has no authority over them.

To TP somebody in the States means to throw toilet paper over their trees and house so there's streams and strings of toilet paper all over the place
