THE WORST IDEA EVER | Supernatural 4x16 Reaction | On the Head of a Pin

Фильм және анимация

Thank you so much for watching Supernatural - Season 4 Episode 16 with me!
Oh gosh, this had so much information in it I thought I was about to burst! Poor Dean, being forced to do the one thing he i struggling to live with - again, and for nothing. I'm glad Sam came in with the save, but was it worth drinking the blood for it? Also Cass obeying, Angels turning on themselves? Where has the world gotten to!

    Fun facts: Alastair makes a reference to the famous board game 'Monopoly' when he says, "Go directly to hell. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200" referring to the card that says 'Go to Jail'. The symbols used to contain Alastair were Old Enochian which, according to Castiel, cannot be broken by any demon. The title of this episode comes from an expression how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, a metaphor for an exercise in futility.

    It’s funny because I actually caught the monopoly reference!! I felt so proud😂 I wish I woke have caught that no demon can break it - as in at all. Then the fact that it was broken would have been way more suspicious.👀 Also never heard that expression, thanks for sharing!

    Something huge that was originally going to happen in this episode but didn't was the death of Castiel. Originally the plan was for Alastair to kill Castiel where Anna would replace his role in the series with the Winchesters but he got so popular among the fans that they changed it to what we ended up seeing. Just imagine how different the rest of season 4 would've been had that happened. The episode The Rapture would certainly not have happened with Castiel dead and Anna certainly wouldn't have been following Zachariah's orders until that last minute disobedience when he busted Dean out of that room & sent him to stop Sam in Lucifer Rising. I'm so glad they went the direction they did even though I like the Anna character and Julie McNiven who plays her. This episode features the best angel storyline in the entire series with all we learn that had been going on in the background. I'm glad that stuff was kept out of the series because the way they had the plot twist in Lucifer Rising was incredible, but I wish they did a DVD special where they would've shot the background scenes for a Season 4 DVD special much like the Ghostfacers web series they did that they included on the DVD. But in this case, it would be saved for after season 4 ended for the DVD set so as to not spoil the plot twist.

    Anna was being sarcastic when she called herself trash & a walking blasphemy. She was saying it because that's how Cas treated her and she was walking away to make him think for himself and come to the same conclusion that she did.

    The missing hole conversation between Dean and Tessa is referencing his memory being restored when she kissed him because when Yellow Eyes possessed her to return Dean's soul to his body Dean had no memory of his spiritual experience hence why he told Sam he couldn't remember when he asked him about it.

    One of my top favorites in this couple of epic seasons (4&5). The acting was so good, it was just riveting, and even tho like you I wanted Alistair to shut up he told us so much, Kudos to Christopher for playing that character so well. You also reminded me just how horrified so many of us were to find out Sam was drinking demon blood! Good job holding yourself together for that ending single man tear, that scene still gets me.

    It’s an amazing episode even though it’s one of the hardest to watch thus far. They truly did amazing with writing this one as well as acting it all out! I was so horrified when I saw Sam, and I feel terrified for the possible consequences too 😭 I think the shock and amount of information is what made me hold it for the year, but when I edited it I may or may not have been bawling…. 👀

    This is a rough episode for Dean. The entire season Dean's trying to move on from his experience in Hell by ignoring it, but now... he's stuck with Alistair, the demon who "broke" him, and he's being forced to use the torture techniques he learned from Alistair to interrogate him, for what amounts to be nothing. Instead, Dean's being reminded how he's inferior to John Winchester after Alistair laments he couldn't break John for over a 100 years, when Dean folded in 30, that the consequences of Dean's failure are so much greater than Dean ever realized. Even the prophesy that he's the savior here is primarily driven by him being the failure who started it. And somehow... he has to fix it, with no directing as to how. Also, just a good episode for Castiel, he's really getting to flex his wings by having doubt, which is a big no no for an angel.

  • @wtcvidman
    @wtcvidman2 ай бұрын

    One last thing I wanted to point out is notice how Castiel tells Dean he has to "stop it" again here. He said it in In The Beginning when he sent Dean to the past when Dean thought he had to stop Azazel once he figured out what he was about to do in 1973 based on John's journal and again towards the end of that episode where Dean thought he was referring to stopping Sam from using his powers. And here he says it again, but on a much grander scale. In Lucifer Rising we find out he is towing the company line that the highers ups want him to believe and more of this gets explored beyond season 4. It's clearly obvious that Cas is towing the company line when Dean asks him what he means and Cas honestly tells him he doesn't know & how he only knows what they (the higher ups) tell him. When Zachariah reveals his hand in Lucifer Rising, we see what a sham it was the entire time. Tessa warned him of this in Death Takes A Holiday when she told him to trust his gut and not to believe that the angels had something good in store for him.

    If you watch the scene where Sam is driving alone in the car after he gets the info on where Cas & Uriel took Dean, you can for a short moment see his eyes go temporarily black after having drunk Ruby's demon blood. Of course the same thing happens again but for much longer in Lucifer Rising as Sam kills Lilith. Also if you didn't notice & many people don't, Uriel was not only the one who turned the screw on the pipe flange to ultimately free Alastair but he was protecting Alastair beyond that too. Since you saw Lucifer Rising already, you know that the higher ups like Zachariah wanted Lucifer to be freed. Uriel was also protecting Alastair from being killed by the demon killing knife by placing a type of protective barrier with his angelic power and I could imagine those angels who joined him assisted him in doing so because if you remember in No Rest For The Wicked, Lilith fled when Sam was about to use the knife on her. Alastair was strong, but no matter how strong he was he couldn't survive a demon-killing knife. If the first demon was scared & obviously vulnerable to the knife, then so was Alastair. You could even see it starting to try to kill him with the glowing effects (which were not present when Dean stabbed Castiel with it in Lazarus Rising). Also notice how in Heaven and Hell Alastair & Uriel never fight one another---it's always Castiel fighting him. And notice how in this episode, Alastair said "Well almost" and "Looks like God is on my side today" where by God he meant the agents of God, i.e. the angels, when the knife was used by Castiel but didn't kill him when it should have. The same thing happened in I Know What You Did Last Summer when the knife was used on him the first time by Sam. That line means that Alastair would've died without the Heavenly help he was getting and he even acknowledged it by saying "Well Almost" (meaning he almost died) followed by the "God is on my side today" line. I like how Alastair even looks at the dripping water like he knows the angels are working on busting him loose. Every detail of these episodes and scenes I pointed out creates this amazing story that takes place behind the scenes that is told almost entirely without dialogue by the subtlety of the writing. The angel exorcising spell is another thing Uriel & his crew must have given him because there's no way any demon could've taught him that other than Lucifer and as we saw in Lucifer Rising, the only demon who spoke to him since he was caged was Azazel that one time and not Azazel nor any other demon ever used that spell besides Alastair who we know was in league with Uriel. He was probably threatened to be instantly smited by Uriel & the angels who sided with him had he tried to use that spell on them. There is one difference between Uriel and his superiors who wanted Lucifer freed but I don't want to spoil anything at this moment. Also the protective barrier thing that Uriel used to protect Alastair was used again later on in some fashion but again I won't say anything. One thing I'll say is that the death of Alastair is probably the most brutal death any character (at least villain) had on this show. Christopher Heyerdahl (who also played Zor-El in Smallville) sold the hell out of it (no pun intended) and is by far the best actor to play him.

  • @wtcvidman

    @wtcvidman

    2 ай бұрын

    Another detail I noticed is how Uriel was making Alastair out to be a lot stronger than they imagined. Everything he did with protecting Alastair from the knife TWICE---in I Know What You Did Last Summer (you can clearly see a concerned look on Alastair's face after he pulled the knife out after Sam stabbed him in that episode) and again here, with the leaking pipe flange and with the angel-exorcising spell was made to cover his own involvement in the angel killings. Once Castiel realizes that Alastair was not involved, he quickly understands that he was not stronger than what Uriel was making him out to be and it doesn't take much time after that for the truth about Uriel's involvement to come out. It's amazing how consistent the writers were in the Kripke era and how it all comes together like this.

    21:22 - This storyline made this episode extremely hard to watch. Being coerced into doing just about anything is a form of violation. 29:43 - Sam's powers get stronger when he drinks demon blood. The more he drinks, the stronger he gets. It is some baaaaad juju. 😱 38:40 - A lot of things in this show can be unsettling, but when Jared and Jensen would appear on stage together at conventions, they'd be very charming and funny. And knowing that helps to get through the rough scenes. 😊 48:42 - Dean saying, "I'm not strong enough," was heartbreaking when I first saw it, and no less so during your reaction. 😢 Your outro: Lots of answers are coming your way... in time. Meanwhile, you got one of my favorite episodes coming up next. 😊

  • @wtcvidman
    @wtcvidman10 күн бұрын

    Sam tortured & killed Alastair because his power allowed him to penetrate Alastair's body and kill him from within much like a bullet from the Colt or getting stabbed by the knife. The reason the knife did not work is because Uriel & the angels who joined him in helping him raise Lucifer used their power to put a barrier around Uriel and protect him and I'm also guessing they combined their power to block Cas from some of his own power as well. They also were the ones who broke the trap with the flange they loosened on the water pipe. I'm guessing that had the Colt or knife been used consistently on the most vulnerable part of Alastair's vessel to try to kill him, they would've blocked the lethal effects of the bullets and/or knife no matter how many times he was shot or stabbed. The difference is that Sam's power was able to break through the barrier because he was powered by a similar if not stronger demonic essence (Azazel's blood) as Alastair's demonic "programming". Think of it as a back door or trojan virus that attacks a computer system. Notice how in Heaven And Hell, Uriel never lays a hand on Alastair. Instead, he & Alstair exchange insults and with the hindsight of what is learned in On The Head Of A Pin, it's obvious they were trying to make it seem like they hated each other when in fact they were working together, which is precisely why Alastair said "God is on my side today" and how he was even looking behind him at the pipe knowing all well that he would be broken out in the most subtle of ways. Also about Sam---his powers are based on Azazel's demon blood and as a yellow-eyed demon, Azazel was extremely powerful which made Sam & the other psychics extremely powerful. Probably more powerful than white-eyed demons like Lilith & Alastair, despite Lilith being the first demon because holy water was able to hurt Alastair but it had no effect on Azazel as we saw when they splashed him with it when he was in John's body in season 1. I would think given how yellow-eyed demon blood is able to kill white eyed demons like Lilith & Alastair, it may be safe to assume Azazel was stronger. More on the demon blood----as you remember since you already saw the season finale (Lucifer Rising) that Ruby said Sam never needed the blood & that he had it within him the entire time (never needed the feather to fly as she said). That was a callback to season 2's finale, All Hell Breaks Loose Parts 1 & 2 where we see other psychics like Ava & Jake get stronger and more powers the more they gave into the demon blood and what Azazel told them in their dreams/visions of him. Since Sam wasn't willing to go that route thanks to Dean & his own morals, the blood was used as a booster or like steroids to pump him up with the power needed to kill demons. Finally not only did Sam kill a demon as you said here, but he killed a white-eyed demon which is questionably the strongest class of demon when you consider Lilith, the 1st & oldest demon, is also of that class (we never get an answer since Kripke never revealed it in his own paradigm/tenure if white eyed demons are stronger than yellow eyed ones). So that shows you how powerful he was and how much pain his power was able to inflict from within demons like Alastair. I'm guessing Sam was able to make Alastair suffer from pains such as giving him the feeling of boiling from within and other forms of suffering.

    Here it comes.. another full length movie in 42 minutes.. it's amazing how many times the writers manage that. I really love how Supernatural does angel wings on the ground. In all of tv and movie history there are characters that I love to hate.. Uriel is *not* one of those characters. Thank you very much Anna. On the other hand, I find Alistair creepily entertaining.. and both of them get poofed in one episode. We did get a whole lot of lore in this one. .. Dean cries.. we all get wet eyes. Oh.. if you get uncomfortable seeing Dean be that way.. you do not want to watch a couple of the movies he did back when he was doing a quick flick between seasons. Exception to that rule.. 10 Inch Hero. If you can find it, it's a good watch.. nothing other worldly... and some really fun t-shirts.

    The episode title references an old question that goes "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin" And as far as Anna falling, she chose to become human. The price for disobeying as an angel is simply death. Doubting, questioning, is the crime that Lucifer was punished for, so for Castiel, doubting is a very, very bad thing.

  • @CoraReacts

    I had never heard of that saying before, interesting one! Oh, so Anna was given a choice to be human or simply die? Or do you mean that angels sees being human as a death sentence?👀 I know it’s a really bad thing for Cass, but something is so wrong I hope that he sees that in the end 🥺

  • @Hayatonyaaa

    @CoraReacts Anna choosing to become human WAS her act of disobedience. Basically she ran away from home, and literally severed her tie to heaven by cutting out her grace. Doing that was seen as an unforgivable act of disobedience. She abandoned her orders for personal gain. She questioned her orders and chose to disobey them, which is why they are set on killing her, period.

    What we all watched is why this is my favorite episode of the entire Supernatural series. Great acting by Jensen as both torturer and *tortured* Dean, and impeccable acting by Canadian actor Christopher Heyerdahl as Alastair especially with speech patterns and facial expressions he expressed. I also loved the direction and cinematography in this. 10/10 TV and perfect to the minute details. The revelations we learned from this episode are huge. Means the whole reason Yellow Eyes wanted John Winchester’s soul is because he wanted him to torture in hell so he can break the first seal. And the only reason the crossroads demon gave Dean 1 year is because Lilith ordered her to only offer a year so she can accelerate the apocalypse by having Dean give in to torture in order to break the first seal. Both Yellow Eyes’ and Lilith’s are doing their own thing, but both of their plans coincide with starting the apocalypse and readying it for their all-father Lucifer. The plot thickens from here on now!

  • @nightwingman666
    @nightwingman6663 ай бұрын

    Yeah Alastair is an interesting villain due to his relationship with Dean. He knew exactly which buttons to push his inferiority to John the tortures he did in hell and how it was because of Dean the apocalypse has begun. Even when bound he was the one in control. Sam’s secret is revealed drinking demon blood to strengthen his powers to the point he can kill a powerful demon like Alastair. Finally Cas’s character development he turned away from blind obedience questioned everything and came to the conclusion who killed the angels. Not surprise Uriel made it clear he hated humans so him joining the side of Lucifer against the ‘mud monkeys’ funny that it was Uriel who disobeyed first. Anna was back and gave Cas the push to come to his own conclusions to see beyond his ‘orders’. That end scene was so heartbreaking. Dean is now responsible to stop the apocalypse after breaking the first seal. He caused this and of course he has a hard time believing it will be him to make a difference.

    From many points of view this is a very well put together episode, but I dislike it so much. I hate what Dean was forced to do, how it hurt him so much. Castiel didn't care that it affected Dean so cruelly. Thank goodness Sam turned up at the last minute to save his brother.

    That's not necessarily true, Castiel's entire arc in this episode is being so troubled and filled with doubt by his orders that he's openly discussing his feelings with the closest parallel he has to Lucifer in Anna, lol.

    This episode was incredibly hard to watch but a very good one, well written with many plot points and twists! I don’t think that Cass didn’t care, to me it looked like he hated having to put Dean through this. I feel like you could see the pain in his eyes. But I also don’t think Cass know anything else - and order is an order and I think at that point he still genuinely believes that it is the right thing to do.🥺 I am very glad Sam showed up though😱 saved them both!

    I love supernatural reactions and I love your reactions too.. but just a feedback: Please don't speak so much between dialogues... You're missing like 80% of them.

    I can promise you that I do not miss 80% of the dialogues. This is the way I like doing the reactions, and this is the easiest way to make sure it’s fair use too. I edit myself so I rewatch every episode whilst doing so. It’s a first time watching so talking or not I would still have the thoughts, and I will still kiss things! English is also my second language and I am NOT America nor do I love there, some context will be missed regardless. I’m sure there are other wonderful creators out there if I’m not your cup of tea. ☕️

    @@CoraReacts Please take postive criticism, in a positive manner.. I would be a useless viewer if I do not give any feedback on the videos of the creators I like to watch. My purpose of writing the feedback was solely to convey my thoughts and maybe help you with an improvement if possible. I didn't give my feedback to offend you in any way. Apologies if you felt that way.

    @@CoraReacts - Apparently I can, because I haven't commented on every reaction of yours. Because you can't shut up, you end not understanding what you've just watched and end up confused and asking stupid questions, because you can't shut the F up. You babble through the whole thing. Tell me, in real life, when watching a movie (in your home or a friend's home or a theater) or TV show with other people, would dare talk as much? Would you become so indignant with your family and friends if they told you to shut the F up? Treat your viewers with the same respect. Pause the episode to pose your take -aways. We're interested in your thoughts, but your talking incessantly over the episode ruins it for your viewers and causes you to miss information that causes you to ask/ponder stupid questions. If only you'd shut the F up. There is a reason why you have so few followers compared to most other reactors to Supernatural.
