Viewer Question: Blake - Hey John, Reuters is reporting that Adam Aron of AMC is getting an over 3 million dollar bonus and 100,000 to 500,000 bonus to the rest of the executive staff. Doesn’t this look bad for a company “struggling” and a company that was forced to lay off tons of minimum wage workers during the pandemic? I love AMC, but this is a very greedy and short sighted move in my opinion. What do you think?

Talk about ungrateful insensitive pricks.

  • @AN_unAVERAGEJOE

    Yeah but like Rob said.....Which is really what I believe since it was an “incentive based “ that it may have and probably was a clause in their contract. The same way NFL and other sports teams get bonuses for making it to the playoffs,Champ Games,or reach certain numbers in a season. I would have thought John could have at least acknowledged that being the possibility. Don’t get me wrong I love John. Been watching him since 2012 when he was with AMC.....Hell since he was dogging Laurel Lance the Canary in the Arrow Aftershow. lol. But I think he’s slightly off in this. Not because he’s not right for feeling that way. He is&I agree with him there but he does need to take a step back(if he didn’t) and consider that maybe because of the performance of the stock as of late.....it triggered their clause. I mean it could of been that the stock had to make 2 50% jumps in a 30 day span......Which it did....Or it could of been that the stock just had to reach 3x value within 2021 or even that __ amount of their debt be cleared. We don’t know. Also this is the most mad I’ve ever seen John . What a clip. Thanks for the work though John if you do see this. But I really think this has less to do over withstanding the pandemic &more to do with the recent & ongoing surge of the stock

  • @bfgboy2

    @bfgboy2

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@AN_unAVERAGEJOE I think get your point, and I'm almost certain that these incentive bonuses are in fact directly related to the current upsurge in AMC's stocks. But you can't deny that it doesn't look good from a company's perspective, especially with AMC just barely surviving by the skin of their teeth. Plus, it's not uncommon for executives to skip or delay their bonuses when their companies go through massive furloughs/layoffs. It's almost expected nowadays...and while it's mostly a PR move just for the public's sake, it's effective for a reason. Also I've never heard of a contract where incentives r a requirement that can't be turned down by their recipients. Legally speaking, they're not in the wrong, but ethically, it doesn't look good for them to move forward with that kind of behavior (especially in this pandemic where everyone is suffering)...that's all I'm saying.🤷‍♂️ Lol, I think I remember one or two other times where John got this mad before (remember the whole Collider layoff incident) but I agree, this is probably in the top five.👌

    I worked for AMC for 28 years, left in early November 2020. The difference between Jerry Lopez (former CEO) and Adam Aaron (current CEO) is that Jerry was more involved with the day to day business of the theater operations and Adam it is more causal running of AMC. Adam put AMC in the most amount of debt because he wanted to make AMC bigger even though the attendance of theater was declining. The Carmike purchase was a money pit in an era where business wasn't so great to begin with in the first place. So much so AMC created the AMC Classic brand so people would understand that those experiences weren't going to be to AMC standard. Since 2017 AMC cut staff at theaters so we wouldn't spend so much to try to make like AMC was making money when it wasn't really. The next several years more cuts to other spending to help make A-List look good. But Adam makes sure he gets paid when others in AMC may not. Some in AMC think he is the worst CEO ever for AMC.

    I'm surprised Rob is vaguely defending their decision here. It's not looking like it was contractural and yea, you just laid off 37,000 people and they're going to need as many of them to come back as possible. How do you square with any of them that you somehow just HAD to pay your CEO, who's already making $9M a YEAR, that you had to give him ANOTHER $4M??? Complete and utter horseshit.

    As someone who worked for years in AMC before leaving a couple years ago: Not really surprised. And no one who worked/works for AMC should be surprised. The mentality inside AMC is like any other job, pay the executives. They dont even pay the managers well tbh and those are the people really getting taken advantage of. That's not to stop people from working at AMC theres just a quality of life that you give up working for them. The actual lifers or people who work the buildings are great to work with. Really great people.

    The former CEO of AMC was Gerry Lopez, not Gary Sanchez. I worked at AMC for close to 20 years, the last 3 as a General Manager, and I decided to leave due to the pandemic. Gerry was a great CEO. Adam I thought was a solid CEO, until I found out about the bonus he’s getting. I was stunned and disappointed. The associates at the theatre level are making minimum wage. The theatre industry needs to fix that and change the business model so the pay is more fair for what they need to do

  • @thebigtipowski
    @thebigtipowski3 жыл бұрын

    Like they said, the optics on all of this is what matters and if I was an employee of AMC theaters I would not go back after hearing all this. Even if I still have my job I am thinking of all the people who lost their jobs but AMC theaters get a Ford to pay that kind of money to people who are already OK and do nothing for the people who are not. I have an AMC theater in my town but I also have a golden ticket and I will not go back to AMC theaters now
