Altered Carbon Season 2 Netflix Review

Ойын-сауық

Altered Carbon Season 2 is NOW on Netflix and this is my official review! Explain your spoiler free thoughts below, and let me know if the ending satisfied you! Is Altered Carbon one of your favorites on Netflix? Season Two begins 30 years after the epic conclusion of Season One, and finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs is recruited back to his home planet of Harlan's World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?

I'm watching S2 E1 right now, and I say definitely season 1. I'm so disappointed. What happened? Did they say, "We have a black guy now, so we'll make him stupid AND incompetent"? He makes moronic decisions, and he's a terrible fighter, which is unforgivable considering the fancy new attributes of the sleeve he's in.

Well he was fighting people older than him in most cases or he was at a disadvantage. The times he wrecks are against normal goons. They just don’t stand a chance, when the elite fight him it is a whole different story. Also it has been confirmed that another actor will take up the reigns of Tak Doctor Who style! Same thing with Kel. This IMO is way more interesting than current Doctor Who tho.

Hunter L Jordan You do realise that Tak was stabbed in his right peck like 3 times? You can clearly see that it healed and scarred over. Also Tak took lots of punishment throughout the season. Each time he kept on going without much time to recover. What did you think the healing abilities looked like? Wolverine style tank healing? Also the people he was fighting never gave him the chance to use the guns when he called them. Some of them even kicked it away as it was being called. There is just no time to wait for the weapon to fly to you when milliseconds could mean life or death.

Season 1 is 7x’s better than season 2. I just feel like they put all of their focus on visuals and fighting scenes, and not enough on the writing and story. There were waaaaay too many times where I’d ask why the characters would make these decisions, have that perspective, or their thought process(compared to Character Development from last season). It seemed like the entire show lost its identity. There was so much potential with the “Elders” and “Fake War” conception, but I feel like they forced it and just gave up. Poe’s Side Quest/Side story was the best part. And the Action and aesthetics were STELLAR!

@@chatwithaninja The atmosphere is still there, although it's obviously a little bit more dystopian because they're on a different planet, and the underlying story this time is not a failed rebellion but a covered-up genocide. Also, Kovacz doesn't get beaten as much as everybody thinks. He lets the Yakuza beat him so they'd take him to his contact, he gets captured because of Poe's failure to alert him of the tracker, and he gets beaten by his own clone who he could not have expected. On the contrary, he and Quell break out of the highest security prison on the planet, just for example. Him and Trepp also take out most of the wedge unarmed.

If you like the shows on CW, then season 2 of Altered Carbon is for you! Remember all of the mystery, character development, grit and believable action from season 1? Well, that's out the window and this season focuses on repetitive conversations, no consequences and bad guys with the aim of a storm trooper. You can literally fast forward past most scenes, the new cast is terrible and Anthony Mackie looks like a pouty teenager throughout the whole show.

The Upper Echelon yeah, season one was like an great old detective novel while season 2 feels more like a..... well I'm still not really sure what it feels like, other than vastly substandard when compared to season 1. That said, this season was okay, but that's a huge let down after the greatness that was the first season. In my, and my wife's, opinion, the saving grace of this season was Poe, Chris Conner played the hell out of the role. Strangely, he played his AI character with more character, depth and emotion than any of the human characters. In several scenes he was able to take a couple lines of understated dialogue and turn them into heart wrenching and emotional scenes. Without Poe's contribution to this season the show would have sunk from okay to sort of meh! BTW am I the only one questioning, how Kovacs Prime was able to beat a version of himself which not only had all the same training, skills and experience as he does, but also intensive training as an Envoy, and at least 30 years more experience?

Im incredibly pissed off by this season, they ruined every bit off smart cyberpunk ideas and plotlines and turned my favourite show into generic scifi. I just feel like the writers off the new season aren't as intelligent, as talented and most importantly don't care for the complications of the world in Season 1. It was about what Problems the end of mortality could bring to us, a theme that has been litterally explored for litterlally thousands of years through our history and they just brush it aside for some halfassed 2005 Doctor Who episode story and took the sets allong with it.

I will say that this season felt smaller. Mainly because of the cast. The actors all do a great job but you're basically just watching a show of one political, one military guy, our main character and his AI friend, and 3 other characters and that's basically it.. Season one has Takeshi, Poe, A cop, her boss, the Meth, his wife, Takeshi's sister, the guy trying to kill Takeshi, his sisters fanatical lackey, The meth's go between, and THEN each of them all had several other characters they interacted with. I liked this season a lot but it was pretty obvious that large portions of it were trimmed to save money.

  • @23paingel

3 Major problems with season 2 for me. First the writing of takeshi and Mackie's general feel when playing him didn't feel like the snarky yet cynical envoy we knew. Second is that we saw less envoy power and more beefed up sleeve power, sure his combat training is there but where was the ability to read situations? The super hearing? Lastly and probably the biggest is that we went from heavy scifi setting to a mining world where half the season we spent in a forest. That mixed with the "big bad" of the season made it feel like we were watching a DND show with scifi weapons...

Season 2 was an utter disaster as far as I'm concerned. I'm a massive fan of the books and S1. The characters were boring for the most part, the plot was vapid, and it was full of references from books 2 and 3 that appeared to be sprinkled in randomly without cohesiveness, the writers were possibly thinking it would be "fan service" but felt more like a slap in the face. Cool characters from the books like Brasil and Trepp turned into pointless garbage on screen. It was just an unfocused mess that came off like a low budget sci-fi channel show. I did enjoy Lee coming back to play Kovacs Prime, Mackie wasn't terrible, but I think he was hindered by god-awful writing. Ugh, just frustrating to wait 2 years for this diarrhea.

Nothing about cyberpunk philosophy and literature, or some bits of noir as Blade Runner, just a bounch of blind scenes and an expressionless Kovacs, without any trace of his Charisma (Antony Mackie? No comment) and a very, very cheap CG. There's not about the social dystopia, the very point of the opera, as the season 1. No IDENTITY. SEASON 1: Enjoyable on so many levels. The enthusiasm for each episode was continual throughout season and into the second. Enthusiasm for 1st season even pushed me to go purchase the books and I'm grateful I did. SEASON 2: Induced an emotionally lethargic response that intensified significantly and continuously with each episode until I reached an apathetic crescendo. My enthusiasm after watching 2nd season is only derived from the enjoyment I get reading negative reviews of it. Netflix and friends didn't just drop the ball with 2nd season... They ate the ball, digested the ball, expelled the ball slowly over 8 episodes, picked the remains off the ground, spiked the remains into a bowl of vanilla ice cream and called it chocolate swirl. I finished the season, you make a good point but it is justified by Takeshi in one of the later episodes. Not to spoil anything but he isn’t the same person. People change after the passage of time. He is put into an uncontrollable situation, on a planet he hates, at the end of the rope feeling like he has spent a lifetime searching for Kel. Understandably he is not feeling too patient. In S1 he had all the time in the world to investigate the case. Now there is an urgency that he has knowing that Kel is out there waiting for him. He takes things way more seriously with barely any wit or jokes. He is focused and wastes no time in going about completing his mission. Anthony’s portrayal matches with the tone of the season. I cant wait to see what is next for Altered Carbon Season 3!

5 episodes in and it finally begin to pick up pace. I think one key difference is Kovacs' personality. In Season 1, you can tell he cares for his friends and morality like a hard-boiled detective. In Season 2, he's just ready to cross everyone for Falconer. Besides that, I seriously doubt if anyone think the romance between Kovacs and Falconer was good in S1. And they just made that the focus for S2.

Falconer was already a legendary religious figure/military leader before meeting Kovacs, not to mention she was probably 100 years older than Kovacs. And she just led Kovacs on like Cleopatra? That is very hard to reconcile with her character. Maybe it's a mutual crush built on a common cause and ideology? Even if that's the case, something is still off.

I think he fitted the character for season 2, as the Kovacs in their is already starting to breakdown mentally. Making that version of Kovacs more emotionally vurnerable, they even expositioned it through the yakuza boss' lectures in the first episode of the season. The Quell thing and killing his sister took a toll on him afterall, The scene where Trepp goes in Kovacs body was more badass than Kovacs himself afterall, a gentle touch that there's something going on with Kovacs' psyche during season 2 But yeah still hard to kill first impressions on a character specially after bringing him back after years of break and taking in considerations what development did the last season made on his character and some in between the season events that wasn't shown. Understandably your critisms aren't misplaced. But thats just my opinion.

The camera movement and framing is a little overproduced. Things shift and change in an almost confusing fashion...unless I got a lot older between 2019 and 2020. Timothy Dingman less diverse? How exactly do you figure that? I normally don't label and pigeonhole people but let's play your game, the main characters in the series were; Kovac - black male Kovacs Prime - Korean male Quell - black female Trepp - black female & character is gay Poe - white male AI Digg 301 - white female AI Danica Harlen - Mexican female Cerrera - White male So doing the math, of the 8 main characters, half were female, 3 were black, 3 white, 1 Asian, 1 Mexican and one of the characters was openly gay. And of the four main characters, with the biggest roles, and most screen time, 3 of the 4 were black. If anything it appears to be more diverse than season 1, not less, so I'm curious as to why you think it's less diverse. Not to mention it's curious you seem to think PG-13 levels if sex and nudity are geared more toward over educated 30 year olds, but the lack of it meams it's aimed at 15 year olds. That just makes me laugh, as you seem to think highly educated 30 year olds aren't interested in a movie uf they can see some naked boobs and asses. 😂

After the first episode, i was enthralled by his performance ( i binged the season non stop XD ), and don't get me wrong... i love Kinnaman, his portrayal was perfect too, but when you put all the actors that "are" Kovac you see that all of them represent many parts of the character and i love every one of them. I like to believe that both Seasons are a different genre and have different main themes. S1 was about a mystery and Tak being haunted by the memories of his past. S2 he is on a journey to discover the truth about his sister’s words whatever the cost. The action in Season 2 felt more balanced. There are people who match Tak blow for blow and win. Where as in S1 he mostly beat everyone with ease (which is expected). People complain mostly about Anthony’s lack of jokes and wit. I say Tak wasn’t in the mood for it. He was tired and impatient in his mission. By the end of the season you can see the development in his character. Season 3 is going to be much anticipated. 2 years can feel like 30 I wish they could produce the next one faster.

oh boy how curious i was for this new season when i found out they were casting a new actor as Takashi. But i must say this season took me by surprise, a good season indeed. Somewhere in the storyline of season two, you kind of forget Kinnaman (which i can safely say that we all loved) as Tak. All that is left is just, the Takashi that we got to know and followed through out season. Which brings me to Anthony Mackie, who did a great job portraying our beloved Tak. If season 1 is 9.0, I will give this season 8.5. I hope this made sense. Because i really had to get this out to see if anyone feels the same about this new season!

2nd season takes a lot more liberties with the script than the first, using material from both book 2 and 3. It shows in the writing, but isn't actually a bad thing. It has to work for TV, after all, and it makes it possible to create several more seasons of the show. Book one would ever only work as a stand alone story. The rest, however, can more easily be expanded upon.

The gritty, dark themes of the future, with the entitled living in sky castles and everyone else scraping to get by.... The deeper question about whether we should live forever, and what is mortality..... What is good and bad? And do they matter...... Who were the bad guys in Season 1? Were there any? Or just.... people..... The really engaging performances from Kinnaman and Higareda (Ortega)..... The intelligent dialogue, and well structured story line..... If you don't really like those things, and you like "whhoooo, bang bang, kill kill, big alien!! OOOOHHH, guns appear into his hands!!! Ah, he loves here, he'd do anything for her, oh, they have to save the world, yeahhhh, YYEAAHHHHH!!!!".... Then you will probably prefer season 2. I won't be watching season 3. I have to agree with the video here, season 2 was not bad at all, if you go with the way season 1 was introduced, the build up was a stoic Kovacs, who just came out of ice, had no idea his sister was alive, knowing that the love of his life was dead, so yes he didn't give a shit about anything, that's why he was so bad ass, but towards the end of season 1 you get to see a character that has grown and experienced the truth about his sister and had to make a tough decision by killing her. Now judging all this, season 2 starts off, with a kovacs who's experienced all the losses, loss of his new girlfriend and sister, and new found knowledge that his lost love is alive and he will never find her, I wonder if people expect the character to still be as stoic and "bad ass" as he was at the start of season 1, Anthony as Kovacs needed about 2 or 3 episodes for us as viewers to fully come to terms with his new sleeve, but he never dropped in his bad ass moments. Rather try to copy his predecessor, he owned his character and grew with it, I guess why folks might be a little disappointed is cause season 2 had a lot of heart than bad ass action detective scenes, there were so many touching scenes that it almost lost the action fast paced vibe that season packed, but yet it was beautifully done. The transition to a new character that had now found old love and the balance of still caring for all those around him, brought in new dynamics to the story line, giving it a more power feel to it. If you came into season 2 expecting everything to be guns blazing, some I don't care badass, then you clearly missed how heartbreaking the end of season 1 was and am sorry cause season 2 just took that ending and built a fairly different story but still packing good action with it.

I'm so pissed that Joel Kinnaman wasn't in this season. Season two is not the same. No disrespect to Anthony Mackie, but it started with Joel and I want him to return!

Joel Kinnaman FTW. Idk why so many official TV critic sites have dissed his performance and stoic expressions, but somehow it was still so much deeper than Mackie's. but Mackie still did have some moments esp that last scene with Poe and what it meant to be alive. like Austin said, it really did build up into smth beautiful at the end thankfully. Love love love this show -- just hope they don't GOT it.

I understand the sleeve changes, but it just didn't feel the same. Felt like a new character. Season one was amazing. And will always be the best. Oh and who else felt closer to poe in this season?

I absolutely loved this season, Mackie just added so much depth to the character of Tak that Kinnaman just couldn't. I felt more attatched to the characters this season than i did last season. Back to Mackie, he added so much emotion to a character before kinda felt stiff. I just overall liked the development of the plot. yes it still has its flaws but the flaws never took away any good feeling about season 2. Ps. i have never actually done a review on anything so sorry if it looks like a jumbled mess

Anthony Mackie played the character very similarly to the book version. I didn’t like it as much as Joel’s or Will’s portrayals, but Anthony’s approach was actually more faithful to the source material.

Loved the season. I agree with the review. It was a different but it’s kind of what the show is about. Different bodies different reactions. People act like every time they did a flash back the characters was the same. Like, go talk to your teenage self. Go further to a kid. Are you gunna be the same? Plus Sometimes that sleeve you get put into is an addict of a cop, a songstress with a gun and sometimes it’s a military made sleeve. Season one was a gritty detective crime drama. This season was more or romance and action lol different but still good.

It seems like the show lost consistency points which detracted from the story and the first season. Like why was non-Envoy Tak basically just as good at everything as Envoy Tak? Wasn't his being en envoy supposed to account for his being better at everything than everyone else? And it seems silly that AIs were so useful and good at everything but only hotels and Tak have them. The fights in this one were overdone and the results arbitrary. I didn't get any sense of how or why one character beat another, they were just dancing (except in one or two scenes). I liked it ok, hope we get more seasons, but the story and character development from the first were better. Maybe it needed more eps.

And Mackie was actually pretty good, tho i still prefer the old Kovacs, i feel like season 2 was great cus of the plot twists and action and story all but didn't really connect with the characters like season 1... Kinda wish they can bring back the old Tak, love that mother!
