I liked season 2, but it didn't have the WOW of season 1. It also seemed PG when the 1st season was a hard R.

I liken this series (not the books) to AHS - anthology-esque: similar but not identical casting, a "theme", but in a universe that gives many different possibilities for locales, eras, etc.. Season 1 was just awesome sci-fi: raw, brutal, sexy, thoughtful; true fruit for the senses. this is different to be sure, but I think it was nicely done. I do believe that if there is a season 3, there needs to be new casting, characters, and maybe some "exposition" credits (like those at the start of BSG episodes)

Well, to be fair, there was still one nude scene
the 2nd season was still a good show but the first season had a way better level of acting and the story flowed so much better. That said they are basically two different shows. The first season was a detective drama and the second season was action/adventure.

@@MadmusicalHulk I've noticed that 2nd season's of basically every Netflix Original now is significantly shorter. Even if they still put out 10 episodes, just look at the screen time per episode. Season 2 was so bad...IF you compare it to S1. The whole world seemed smaller, less details, less character development, less everything. To perfectly compare seasons I would say S1 was like a blockbuster film and S2 was picked up by the SyFy channel. Everything seemed watered down.

to the last comment about demeanor. I think they softly address this within the show. The STACKs are just "raw" data or your soul. The Sleeves they inhabit have Bio information such as hormone levels/brain differences, thus its these Bio differences that can "alter" a personas personality given time. I also think this is what the show meant by "losing yourself" after so many jumps.... but thats just my 2 cents :)

@@drewcarter3100 true. I had hopes for the show, but the writing and acting was kinda a mash up of the second and third books. Which also weren’t as good as the first book which the first season was based on. When they had good source materials they made a good show. Maybe they weren’t really fans and this was the best they could do. The concept of the universe is good, sadly I doubt anyone will revive this series again. @@Maj_Kasul my biggest issue was how terrible Anthony Mackie was.. 🤦♂️ he didn't even try to recreate Kovacs from the first season. His dialect, his mannerisms, his attitude, it was basically a COMPLETEY different character. Pair that with the lackluster storyline, character arcs, I found myself forwarding through at least 20-25 minutes every single episode because of how boring it was.

@@fraffucci2 In a way that made it worse, at least for season 1,Joel Kinnaman was so good, and to have the story be twisted like that guaranteed we wouldn't get a decent book 3, and season 2 definitely delivered a garbage version of a mashup of the next two books. I had suck high hopes, especially after the first couple episodes of season 1 but it all went down hill quickly.
Does anyone think that Quellcrist Falconer turned into a full Mary Sue this season? Her list of abilities is crazy: Super scientist who created stacks, high moral rebel leader, hand to hand combat and ranged weapon specialist, powerful enough to contain an alien being in her brain. Then she says her only weakness is that she allowed herself to fall in love with Tak! Every second she was on screen in season two was hard to watch. Tak (by comparison) gets the crap beaten out of him several times during the show and he's the lead character, meanwhile she flows through a combat like she's made of smoke.
Not gonna lie, season two was good, but season 1 is a banger and a incredible season that I loved. I hope season 3 brings that feeling again.
Rei's present in S1 and her relationship with Tak made S1 as good as it is imo. Her absence due to her story coming to conclusion is sad indeed. I still really enjoyed S2 tho.
On the subject of actors changing and demeanour, sleeves actually hold onto articulation and personality. Only synth bodies have no prior habits that follow resleaving. Hence how rikers body in season one was addicted to cigarettes

What is the story behind the drawing that Quell makes, drawing that is placed in the envelope ?
@JakesPlace
4 жыл бұрын
Not 100% but I think it's to do with an elder language which helped prove that quell had an elder "entity" in her stack.
If you like the show, don't bother with the books, which are amazing. They changes so much in season one that it has almost nothing to do with the 2nd and 3rd book anymore. I loved the books so the series has been aggravating. Joel nailed the character in season one, but the changes in the end were just stupid, so by the time season 2 arrives it barely resembles the next two books in the series. Quell doesn't even show up until the 3rd book, she didn't train him, and they didn't have a thing going. Well at least not at first. Never wanted to be one of those "the book is better" snobs but here I am.
you never touched on my biggest question, why did tak say to jager that he should be dead already, they said hes only spun up for war, so i get it hes not rich but the ctac need him so why would he get old enough to die if hes always replaced to a new sleve?
What happened to ryker sleeve
It took an episode for me to get into season 2. The problem is a bunch of non scifi fans loved season one and didn't quite understand the world it seems. The entire premise of the show is that you can swap bodies. Taks whole thing, even mentioned by his his sister and several other characters "You used to swap sleeves like nothing". Meaningbhe has had probably a thousand different bodies over the years. If you truly grasp the essence of the show its easy to move on although the actor in season 1 is the reason I got hooked on the show in the first place. I'm a HUGE For All Mankind fan so I was already a fan of his and it was a pleasant surprise a week ago when I started Carbon, to see him as the lead. The problem is Makey doesn't seem to try to carry on his traits. I looked for then the first few seasons and then I stopped as it didn't seem like he even tried. That said I still loved season 2. This is my favorite new scifi universe as it feels lived in, a John Wick style environment with tons of lore/history/backstory. I suppose I have to read the books now
@JakesPlace

I didn't mind the cast change, but agree Makey didn't seem to have Taks traits, but I also thought the action was weak and far to much of it. It just didn't have that gothic darkness of the first season I thought.

I could not make it past the first episode. The main character was clearly miscast and... eh, I don´t even remember much of it. First episode of the first season had me hooked instantly.
Someone close to me put it best. Mackey is a good actor but he's a bad kovacs. In season 1, 3 actors played him and all seemed to be the same character. In season 2, kovac was different in every body.
What happened first Harlan and Founders killed Elders OR Quellcrist Falconer invented Cortical Stack?????

Who really controls the Orbitals? in the episode where Danica launched the Rocket (fireworks), the Orbitals are seen the destroy the rockets and the prison staff strapped to them. This made me ask if they were being controlled or not? if the Orbitals were not controlled and say they were programmed to obliterate anything leaving the surface then how can Harlans export the alloy used in the stack in the first place? Is this a plot hole or is there something i'm missing?

The orbitals probably were programmed to protect themselves from any sort of attack, so I assume the rockets were aimed at them knowing they would be shot down by the Orbitals.
@Bromley86z
2 жыл бұрын
In the books, the orbitals were an abandoned automated Martian network. They shot anything over a certain mass/threat level that flew over a certain height. It's a network that covers the whole planet, but there is one hole in that network (missing orbital, reason unknown) which allowed the colony expedition to land. That's where the capital was founded, and that's how you physically get on/off the planet. Of course, the TV series fucks with the books so much that this might not hold true: e.g. the whole stacks-alloy-export idea is not in the books. The whole point of DHF is it allows FTL travel of personalities, but not matter. Moving actual freight between worlds would take so long as to not be worth it for all but the very richest in society.
I am up to episode 3, and I just knew something felt off, series 2 is a complete bastardisation of books 2 and 3. Soo many plot holes now .... like how do they get the mined stack metal off planet? The angle fire was supposed to shoot anything that went over 130m off the ground down (if I remember correctly). I do like the inclusion of Poe, and I do wish he was in books 2&3. I cannot see how/where there gunna go or even if there is a season 3, as iirc the author wasn’t going to do a book4, and instead did some prequels Dunno how I feel about it now .... gunna have to do some beer meditation 🧘♂️

Super great synopsis of Season 1 + 2. Really Great! It helped bring the whole thing together. Great job. Personally, I'd like much LESS brutal violence & torture. I actually fast forwarded through some sections because I thought it was over the top. If the story is good (which it is)... & if the characters are engaging (which they are)... excessive violence is completely unnecessary (& actually takes away from the series, I think).
Dude, fuck these haters think. . .you did an awesome bloody job, I totally love the addition about the soul, which I hope that is something they delve into a bit more next season(no fucking way it can't happen)
In my opinion season 2 felt like a bad CW tv show. Large part of scenes are transitions. Themes, dialogue, casting, special effects, and fight scenes are disappointing. Let's be honest, what fight scene was really memorable? (Final fight scene was meh) What cool scene showcased his "enhanced" healing? (They could have done some cool scenes like in X Men movies with Wolverine, but none to be found) Season 1 felt like a Blade Runner like fun. Season 2 felt unfocused, sloppy, and sadly cheap. Fans waited this long for a lame CW like product to me was a bummer. Season 3 to complete the book series would now seem doubtful. I was so excited for this season but after the third episode it seemed clear what this was... Not the competitor to The Expanse...
