To an extent, injuries can be prevented too. Stress fractures are relatively common, and they can be prevented. If you've never run much before, do some light running and gradually increase how much you run. It will increase bone remodeling and make them much more fracture resistant.

I just came back from BCT from fort Benning last Friday night and I have good news for anyone that is worried about the peanut butter shot. They actually don't give it anymore at 30th AG reception battalion (reception). They give you around 4 different shots at reception and you'll have to give a bit of blood but no peanut butter shot, trust me I was worried just like some of you guys! Good luck to you guys shipping off soon as well!

Every time I watch your videos I'm more relaxed about basic training cause you've been answering the questions in my head. I'm gonna enlist in the army sometime next year and then millions of questions go through my head etc. Then I watched most of your videos now I'm more relaxed and know what to expect for basic. I want to try my hardest. I know I'm gonna struggle with the pt but I know I can do it if I push myself. My husband is in the army. We don't have long here at Lackland were hoping to go to ft gordan next year. Honestly I'm excited about joining. It gives me a better future for me and my family. You're awesome and you're videos are awesome and very helpful. 😁

Some physical preparation before training can help reduce the risk of injury. Putting yourself in a position where you will undergo high levels of physical stress, without getting ready beforehand is irresponsible.

I've known of your account for over a year, but really havnt started watching until a month or so ago because I joined the Army. Watching your videos have really helped me get over fears and prepare myself. Fitness, Land Nav, to even the ranger roll, I learned because of you. I have been doing pushups for 2 weeks constantly. I have always been athletic but I was never good at it. Im doing 50 pushups in one minute now after only 2 weeks of pushing myself after only able to do 20something. From a 35N leaving this Sunday to Sill, thanks.

I’m not born in the US but I’ve been here for about good 14 years, I’ve always wanted to join and serve the military, but never looked up enough info and let people talk me out of it in the past because “It’s not my country” and the first (and maybe only) thing that came to their minds in regards to military was “Call of Duty”. But now I’m looking forward to do it before I get older (31 y/o)

Hey matt! I've been watching your videos for a while in order to get a general idea about BCT and it saves alot of time and dumb questions in the recruitment office. Now i have something to ask that i haven't seen you talk about and in my opinion it's kind of important and, that is food brother! I'm trying shave of some pounds and you don't look like someone that needs to ,but alot of us need to battle on the table as much as on the field. So long story short ... How does food work in BCT how many times do you get fed? do you have options? Can you be a vegan ,vegetarian, keto, gluto, lectime, or whatever. I'm on a keto lectine diet plus intermittent fasting that means i eat once every 22 hours and when i do i eat spinach with coconut oil lol. I don't think I'll keep on doing that in BCT i don't want to be "that guy" but can one be a conscientious eater at BCT or even after that.... in general lets say in the army Thank you and keep pumping the arms soon they'll be as big as my legs! Lol

At the half-way point in basic I developed bursitis under both kneecaps, attributed to so much standing and marching. I received cortisone shots under both knees, that wasn't very pleasant. Concerned that I would be set back, I met privately with my instructor who explained that a doctor's order was considered a direct order that I had to follow., For five days I had no PT and missed both trips to the obstacle course. My instuctor confided that I had done well so far in basic, and that once the five day excuse expired, I should still be able to pass the PT test and 1.5 mile run, if I applied myself. I passed with flying colors and had no setback.

There will be some who are Prior Service and some who are Reservists and National Guardsmen. The advantage you have today is you will not spend hours and hours spit shining boots like we did. The only thing that is still shined today is the brass and low quarter shoes. Back then we had Summer Green Uniform, Winter Green Uniform, Green Overcoat, and the Khaki Uniforms. BCT is not impossible. It is not quitting no matter how much it sucks. It is saying over and over others did it so can I and never giving up. If you are Infantry like I was then it will be marching and at times double timing everywhere you go. It will be lots of rucking and lots of PT. You will drop 20 pounds or more. NEVER BE THE LAST MAN BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE TO HOLD THE MESS HALL DOOR OPEN AND BE THE LAST ONE TO GET SERVED. THE DI'S WILL YELL AT YOU TO MOVE OUT SO YOU WILL NOT GET TO EAT UNLESS YOU SWALLOW IT QUICKLY AS YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR TRAY AWAY. ALWAYS BE IN THE MIDDLE AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON SO YOU ARE NOT A SCREW UP. DO NOT BUY CANDY UNTIL YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO SO AND DO NOT GO TO THE GUT-TRUCK OR GET CAUGHT AT THE GUT-TRUCK BECAUSE YOU WILL GET SMOKED AND PUT ON PUNISHMENT. ALWAYS REFER TO OFFICERS AS EITHER SIR OR MAAM, DI'S AS DRILL SERGEANT AND NCO'S AS SERGEANT OR CORPORAL THE 1SG IS CALLED FIRST SERGEANT. NEVER FORGET BECAUSE YOU WILL GET SMOKED AND PUT ON PUNISHMENT A TIP I DID NOT KNOW WAS TO LEARN THE RANK STRUCTURE AND GENERAL ORDERS BEFORE BCT MAKES IT EASIER THERE WITH SOMETHING LESS TO LEARN

Currently at around 215 lbs, 20 yr old guy at 5’10, would I have to meet the army weight requirement (Which I don’t know, plz tell me if you do) or could I potentially get in over that certain weight? All help is appreciated.

John Vasquez they have the requirements online. Age 20 at 70in is 132-180. 71in is 186. You would have to be taped. Around neck and waist to see if you make body fat if you are above max weight.

Gas chamber was at the beginning of the 3rd week in our training. It's to teach you how to use a gas mask & have you gain confidence in it when you realize it works. It's not too bad. We were only given shots during the first 3 days, and were given (1) single 'booster' shot after that about Week 8.

Ladies and gentlemen, I went into the Army July of 1983 after 10 months in the DEP. The availability of information then was virtually non-existent. Most recruiters cared only about getting the signature. Any useful information came from family or friends. The resources available today are a world apart. For a potential enlistee to not use them just makes their transition harder. Keep it up, Lieutenant. You are doing a world of good.

Can't have cats or dogs if you're in the dorms. Can only have fish or one reptile. If you're married and living on base housing you are limited to 2 small animals, like two cats and two dogs or one of each.

We had 5 people in our BCT Company with the MOS '09S' (Officer Candidate) who completed BCT while in ROTC. I'm not sure what their method was, but talk to a recruiter or the leader of ROTC at your university of choice.

I went to see a recruiter to day to talk about reenlistment. I tell him I want an option-40 contract... and he tells me the line... "Well you know, once you get in the military, your options kinda open up, so you'll likely get to go to ranger school." And I just think to myself... 'here we go.' I think this is actually a new recruiter, coz he didn't have any business cards yet, and the other guys in the office seemed to have more answers. I didn't stress about it today, because I have to get my DD-214(contacting the main office b/c mine was lost in a flood) to see if I'm even still eligible to reenlist due to my age. But if I'm eligible, I'm not going w/o that option-40.

hahahaha yeah if you want that option-40 it's better to get it now, even if you have to wait a little bit than HOPE that you can get a it a few YEARS potentially down the road. lol

I got a few questions, I’m currently a full time college student and I’m planning to join the army reserve, would it interfere with my college? I know it’s a weekend per month but would there be days where I have to miss college? And what about the basic training when does it start? how long is it? Could have googled these but I think you can answer these better. Starting watching your videos a couple days ago and it’s great content good job!

Reserve is usually working one weekend a month so I don't imagine it would affect your college time.

  • @egrikku8602

Basic is usually 8.5 weeks long and when you're getting shipped out depends entirely on how many openings they have to ship people out so it's impossible to know beforehand until you get to Meps

  • @jackgrimaldi8685

    @jackgrimaldi8685

If you're in college full time then when you go to MEPS they will probably schedule your basic training during your school's summer break. Basic is roughly 3 months give or take a week or two so you probably would not be able to go to AIT immediately after since you would have to return to school in the fall so you would most likely do your AIT the next summer. Unless you took a semester off from school to finish AIT right after basic, but then AIT has different lengths of time depending on the MOS you pick. Then reserves is one weekend a month and a 2 week drill with your unit that takes place usually during the summer.

if your biggest fear of joining the military is shots then dont join. there’s bigger things to fear in the military than shots. like warfare, death, having to kill. (if need be). not being incentive just honest.
