Yeah I went to Navy basic in 2013 and my family had dial up internet; the only info I had was from my recruiter and he went through basic years before I did lol

Q-TIPS!!!!! Absolutely! To this day, even 35 years after Basic, and with plenty of $$$ and all the cleaning gear, I still drive my wife nuts buying boxes upon boxes of Q-Tips for cleaning my firearms. Also, they work great for applying brass polish.

There really isn’t a way to ask. Sometimes you can just grab a battle buddy and go and other times you have to ask. But you just simply ask to use the latrine. Also you don’t report stolen items. You just try to find out who stole it. If it’s something really important you can tell your leadership and then they can tell the DS

Jacob Graley make sure to write your name very CLEARLY on the paper they give you to put on your duffle bag. It will be mixed with others when you first arrive at the barracks. It will be easier to spot.

I left Jackson like a month ago. Im in fort lee now having fun. Relaxin Jackson is called tht for a reason. Don’t stress basic, Utube videos make it seem harder.

Did they seriously CUT your lock? I was a DS from 2008-2010 and we were definitely NOT allowed to do that unless the Soldier was present AND the Soldier requested due to lost combo or key.

Hey you say to mark the uniforms and stuff assuming drill sergeants won't get mad if there is a mark on our PTs or OCPs, I'm asking this because like you said they are weird creatures and I trust that you know if they will get mad or not, I just wanted to clarify that. Also doesn't the mark wear off in the washer?

I have a question that i've asked so many people and haven't really gotten a clear answer . I am going infantry so OSUT , will i get a break before i go to my first duty station ? Or will i have to use leave days to do that . My son is due June 10th and I am trying to be there for about a week afterwards . I leave at the beginning of this next week .

Hey I have a question about marksmanship at bct, I am right handed but I am left eye dominant and the vision in my left eye is 20/20 while my right eye is 20/50. Do they allow you to shoot left handed in bct or do they show you how to shoot with cross dominance ?

I am right handed but left eye dominate as well. But I have experience shooting right handed all my life and I can shoot great that way. IF your eye dominance is opposite your hand dominance they will want you to shoot depending on your eye. So in your case, yes you will shoot with your left eye and have to learn how to shoot left handed.

ROFL I remember BCT on 1984 . Same thing . We were ordered to initial everything . Got back to find the bay demolished I mean racks and lockers turned over and every bit of clothing piled in a heap. BTW the padlocks can be opened with a master key on the back . Those that failed to mark their trash were screwed. We all got cranked (smoked must be the current term ) for an hour or so. Some things never change.😅 BTW I'm Wendy's husband Randy . She was smart enough to enlist in the Air Force Reserve / National Guard.

My question is how do you mark it like if your washing your uniform how do you mark it like on the tag ?

Which item we can keep and which one we have to return? Somebody said we have to return something after basic training.

So I’m shipping to BCT March 19th and signed my contract to be a 25B. I’m worried about what happens if I don’t get the security clearance. Do I sign a new contract for a different MOS before I ship or will I be stuck waiting around after BCT because I didn’t get the clearance? Just wanting an opinion or wondering if you know anything about it.

Scott Bye If you were completely up front and thorough in all your interviews and paperwork and you swore in your more than likely all good. But if you swore in then they find out you lied or withheld some information your out.

Hey man, I took the practice asvab recently and got a 61, Im thinking of going 11x. Im training very hard, running every morning, and hitting the weights, and of course, eating healthy. I got a 63 on the practice, the AFQT or whatever. I’m kinda confused on how the asvab works tho, will the score just be those main 4 subjects and all the others have their own scores? Or what? It was kinda confusing to me. Bc I’m pretty confident with those 4 basic subjects (the 2 math ones, paragraph comprehension and world knowledge) but not the others.

Kind of depends on your MOS due to slot availability. Airborne has turned into a career checklist school. Air Assault is available, Sapper for Engineers, all the cool guy schools with be MOS dependent. Ranger is open to everyone but slots are limited and generally non 11 series MOS will need to be E4 or above just due to the fact that it's a leadership school and it doesn't make a lot of sense to send a E2 from finance just so he or she can get a tab. If you're 11 series you'll have a lot of cool schools available as long as you're a hard charger and your command approves it.

It's the same basic training course. Reserves, national guard and active all go to the same exact basic training. After basic you MIGHT get time off, you. Go to AIT together and then after you return to your Unit or home.

Yes, because all Army contracts are 8 years. You might sign for 2 years active, but you still owe 6 years in the inactive reserves. So how would you get your uniform if they take it from you, and you get deployed while in the inactive reserves?

The boot camps are very different. A few examples below... 1. Army is co-ed; Marines separate by gender (all-male and all-female platoons who have little contact with each other) 2. Army is more focused on skills training, Marines teach a significant amount of service history during boot camp 3. Army recruits call NCO cadre "drill sergeant", Marines say "Sir / ma'am....sir / ma'am" 4. Army marksmanship qualification is pop-up targets ranging from 50-300 meters away using prone supported, unsupported and crouch position; Marines have stationary targets at 200 - 500 meters away with standing, sitting and prone 5. Army does not have swim training in basic; Marines have basic swim training during theirs

Can you write a specific symbol that’s not offensive but recognizable to you on your items or is that gonna get you and your team smoked? I sign a symbol on my stuff constantly that nobody knows what it means and it’s nothing negative but would that be permissible?
