    I never got sick at basic (never been sick in my life), but one guy in my company dropped on the last lap during our "olympics" week run, and refused to move from where he fell. My company had won every single event during these "olympics", and all this guy had to do was crawl a half lap and we still would've beat the next fastest company... So we didn't win that banner. That night we gave that recruit a blanket party in his bunk, and he was rolled out of our company the next day. Turns out he had double pneumonia.

    Here's a tip for anyone, especially active duty. *Make sure you keep your original camelback after your initial entry training (basic training and AIT), even if it is damaged and even if cadre like drill sergeants don't say to* . When I went to AIT, we still had to have water source, but AIT is a little more lenient on it. We did not have to have our original camelbacks, so we were allowed to buy either new ones (like different types and different colors) or we were allowed to have canteens. It was not stressed to us by either the drill sergeants at basic or the platoon sergeants (now drill sergeants) at AIT that we were supposed to keep our *ORIGINAL CAMOUFLAGED CAMELBACK from reception* When I got to my unit.... I and others were actually given a *statement of charges (a fine) of like $50 because we did not have our ORIGINAL camouflaged camelbacks from reception* followed by a lecture by the sergeants about "if they Army issues you something you're supposed to keep it even if they dont ask for it back!" I myself had actually left my original camelback at my AIT, while others who arrived said they had just thrown theirs away. I was able to find someone else's original camelback (there is no proof of who something belongs to) so I was able to avoid that fine. So even if it's damaged, *keep your ORIGINAL CAMOUFLAGED CAMELBACK FROM RECEPTION* to show your unit that you have it.

    mac burger This is bullshit. Active duty, second duty station, one deployment. The ARMY does not do statment of charges for a camel back. This is something that you dont need to keep because you dont need to return it.

    We had two drill sergeants who brought their *DOGS* a few times. One had an australian shepherd puppy and the other had a schnauzer. You wouldn't believe just how the trainees in the company just stopped just to look at the dogs. The dogs, especially the puppy, really were not that cute, but it was just the idea that we hadn't seen a frigging dog in seemingly forever. Stuff like that will shock you into realizing just how cut off you are from the outside world during the time you are in basic training. You will *STILL* be somewhat isolated from civilization when you go to AIT because that's *still* initial entry training, though it won't seem so much like prison compared to basic training.

Two female drill sergeants in my company brought their dogs on a few occasions and everyone went crazy. Not so much that the dogs were beautiful but just the fact that we haven't seen a dog or cat in so long.

    Maura Aisling I hope you've done as much research as possible into not only just basic training (and AIT) but also military life and specifically Army life, especially if you're going on Active Duty. I hope you're ready for all the ruck marches, mandatory group PT sessions early in the morning, going to the field and spending weeks without showering plus setting up breaking down and cleaning those tents, possibility with longer deployments than other branches, taking care of TA-50 gear, etc and all that bullshit you have to do in the Army that you wouldn't have had to do had you joined the Air Force instead.

Don't be afraid of asking anything you can think of that you haven't seen in KZread videos already, because there's still plenty of stuff out there that you won't be told about by your recruiters, that you won't really see well if at all on the Internet, and that you won't find out about until after you've joined when it's too late.

    You can also say personal space is another thing you'll miss. When you're at basic training you have no privacy at all. Your staying in a barracks with up to 50 other guys, you have to share everything, and you cannot go anywhere without a battle buddy. So the one thing you will appreciate when your out of basic training is your privacy again and going any place, without having to take someone with you.

  • @macburger5026

    @macburger5026

    5 жыл бұрын

    Capecodsniper I went to basic training last year during the fall with the holidays. With Thanksgiving we had an easy day the day before and had the first sergeant with a command sergeant major serving us in the DFAC (pronounced "dee fack" and is what the Army today calls the "mess hall" or "chow hall"). We were allowed to have a piece of red velvet cake. We were also allowed like a 10 -15 minute phone call, which of course went by really fast. With Christmas, we were allowed to go home for two weeks called "Victory Block Leave" "VBL" at Ft Jackson (where I was) or "Holiday Block Leave" "HBL" at other basic installations. It was real cool for my cycle because we had just done the "Forge" right before, so we were done with all of our graduation requirements by that point. Then when we came back, we got drug tested (which the first sergeant will go over with you a lot about before you go on your leave) and spent our remaining two weeks cleaning weapons (don't call it a "gun" or even a "rifle") just to give us something to do. We didn't even actually prepare for our graduation until like the last couple of days. We did go on a huge battalion run that lasted liked 5 miles. The drill sergeants tried to convince us that if we didn't have our weapons spotless clean, cleaner than even when they were issued to us, then we wouldn't be able to turn our weapons in. Of course that was a lie and a mind game they played with us just to keep us busy because there really wasn't anything else for us to do. We had a suspicion that the drill sergeants were just playing with us about the weapon cleanliness, so a lot of us would just go into the latrines (bathrooms) and just sleep in the stalls. When we actually turned our weapons in, they were not checked for cleanliness at all. That's one thing I wished I had joined the Air Force instead of the Army about, was basic training. Air Force is shorter and once Air Force is done what they needed to do, they were done. Army is all this infantry stuff and we just spend our last few weeks not doing anything worthwhile.

    Jack Sully You will have your medical history checked. If you lie about something and they find it they could and likely would disqualify you. As much as the recruiters want to try to get you in, the doctors at MEPs are looking for any reason to keep you out. I had two recruiters tell me and other recruiters about a guy that was sent to MEPs who was *permanently disqualified* because one of the doctors saw him chewing his fingernails and claimed he had "wolf biting syndrome"
