A discussion about redefining your relationship with food, body image, intuitive eating, and more ✨

Right now, I feel that a lot of us are being extremely hard on ourselves about the way we’ve been eating and/or how our bodies have changed during our time at home. We all have unique relationships with food and our bodies, and sometimes those relationships can be a big source of pain and stress in our lives. In an effort to help those of you watching who maybe be struggling with this pain right now, Lucy and I wanted to share what our personal journeys with food have been. Lucy is one of my best-friends and has really helped me heal and redefine my relationship with food and my body. After we both got tested for COVID and received our negative results, we decided to finally sit down and record our conversation of redefining our relationship with food, body image, disordered eating, intuitive eating, and more. Please let me know in the comments below how you’re feeling about your relationship with food, your body, and any other questions you may have!

I see myself in a lot of what you guys said about your pasts. About to graduate from uni, spiritually awakening and just turned vegan :) Thank you both for creating this space and telling your stories! ❤️

I really needed this. I’m in recovery currently, hitting a place of fear because of the weight my body has gained back. Because of this fear as well as growth not being linear, I haven’t eaten yet today and it’s almost 5pm. I’m gonna go eat now and not feel guilty, or sad, or bad. My body deserves food. My body deserves love. No matter it’s size. Anyways thank you again. I was really excited when I saw this. It’s also been rare in my experience to find vegans who are not fatphobic, not focused on size or “false/visible health” etc. Again, I really appreciate hearing you both talk about how veganism was freeing for you and how there is hope, a broader community, and freedom in having discussions like these. 🖤

Your comment just made my entire day. First off, I am sending you SO much love right now. I am proud of you for taking the steps to love your body and also being brave enough to share your story with me. It’s a journey and I know it’s not easy but you said it perfectly: Your body deserves love, no matter it’s size! 💛 Thank YOU for loving yourself and you will always have space here to share your feelings and story. We are rooting for you and we will never judge you based on your appearance. Ever. 💛

this is such a huge topic that needs to be talked about more openly. I know so many people, women especially, who have struggled with their relationship with food. it's such a hard discussion--so heavy but so necessary thank you for sharing your thoughts and your time

Yessss to mental health coming first and physical health following! Last year a read a book literally called “The F*ck it Diet” and it completely changed my life! It’s a great look at undoing the effects of diet culture and getting rid of the guilt associated with certain foods. I’d highly recommend it!

I love this convo so much! It’s so enlightening. I struggled with my weight. I remember wanting to diet when I was 10 cause I was chubby (can’t remember if I actually did or not). When I was 13-15 years old I was anorexic. I stopped on my own cause I couldn’t recognize myself in the mirror. My adult years I’ve struggled with weight. I’ve done low calorie diets, intermittent fasting, The Special K Diet, Clean Eating, The JLO 10 Day Challenge (which was so hard cutting out sugar). Now that I’m almost 32 (end of the month), I just eat fruit, Honey Nut Cheerios (by itself or w/ Silk Vanilla Almond Milk, drink fruit juice and go walking from time to time. I splurge here and there. It helps me cause I’m more cautious cause I would eat junk food way too much. I have lost weight which I’m glad because there was a time I couldn’t fit most of my clothes. Also, it’s hard losing weight around certain family members cause sometimes they would get mad/upset at the weight I’m at, even if it’s my biggest weight. It’s really nice to see to friends casually talking about weight and food.

This conversation is so needed! Both of yall were spittin' facts! I love how you both explained that there are no "bad" foods. Your perspective on exercise was refreshing too, it isn't punishment, exercise can be seen as a reward or a way of giving thanks to your body and expressing gratitude for the privilege of being alive in bodies. ♡

@@MisakoEnvela thank you so much! You and your content inspired me to finally start uploading KZread videos. I've been wanting to be consistent for YEARS now and I'm finally doing it! I felt CONVICTED in one video where you mentioned if you have to film on a potato, film on a potato lol! I always let excuses of not having the best equipment/time etc to start but that was just bologna! 😅 The quality is not there yet and I'm still learning my content/style but it's a start! Seriously, thank you so much for the work you do!

I always had a terrible relationship with food ESPECIALLY in high school (I frequently starved myself to try and lose weight), until a couple years after I went vegan and started becoming a lot more conscious about what I was eating, and how it affected my physical and mental health. Now that I eat (mostly) healthy I've learned to intuitively listen to my body and what it does and doesn't need AND more importantly the foods that I have intolerances to that have been long affecting my health. It's been a damn journey, and of course I still eat junk food every now and then, but I no longer have the energy to beat myself up for it anymore. Only love and compassion in this house

Wow good conversation. Our system keeps us focus on looks, possession, calories, money, experts and so many insignificant things. As far as experts just know the best teacher you will ever have is you on any subject. Research it all. Check out "Fit For Life" by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond and never count calories again. Focus on the worst things make it difficult to focus on your mental strength and developing yourself in the ways that are way more significant. Thanks This was needed and enjoyable

Thank you Misako for this video. This kind of content has been helping me a lot lately. Though I have to say one thing, (I know you didn't have any bad intentions choosing such words) - you said when you went vegan, that was when you felt good because you felt like you could stop worrying about calories.. From a perspective of a person who has recovered from an eating disorder, I can say that this may sound quite triggering, baceuse it kind of implements that all non vegan food is, well, unhealthy and has more calories. I'm sure you didn't want to say that, but I'm just pointing out that these words could be interpreted in the wrong way by some people.

I am so grateful for this kind and compassionate lesson from you, and I will be more careful with my words when I speak about this moving forward. I appreciate you pointing this out to me and please, please, please do not hesitate to do so in the future. Sending you so much love 💛💛💛💛💛
