Thanks for more news and answers to questions. Security pins make a big difference to low skilled "picking" attacks like raking and zipping. I've been buying some otherwise well made padlocks that have no security pins and the 6 Schlage style pins in them are easily raked open with a cheap pick set. Replace a few pins with security ones and they are impossible for me to rake. Space and depth keys are the bomb for hobbyists and beginners. I've used them and a lishi hand cutting tool to (slowly) originate house keys from code. I'll get a cheap duplicator at some point and maybe one day a proper code cutting machine if I do anything commercially. One of the best purchases I made was a set for the locks and keys I'm training with. Just a great reference tool to own I reckon, even if not using them as a short cut for code cutting they are also able to be used as a gauge or sanity checker.

Definitely! With security pins I use the rake and hook method on lockouts lol. Security pins definitely will stop a novice, but too many can be a liability. It's a sweet science haha. S&D Keys are great and honestly for someone starting out it helps them understand the process better overall. You can get away with just using a duplicator and S&D keys for quite some time! I just recommend copying a handful of each S&D key as they can wear down with heavy use over time. Similar to when a customer wants 20+ key copies of 1 key, you always originate 2 to copy off of lol

From my experience the main reasons why electronic locks fail are: 1. Handing is not set right 2. Alignment to the strike plate, or on the bore hole itself is off 3. Deadbolt hole isn't deep enough 4. Dead batteries Basically mainly comes down to poor installation. Most of the time I can fix the electronic lock by addressing these issues. But if these issues are left unchecked for lock enough it will cause permanent damage to the lock. For example, if the deadbolt hole isn't deep enough, then it may seem that everything is working well... but when you actually press the lock button, the bolt extends then presses into the wood. That last bit where the gears are turning but the bolt isn't moving any further, will end up damaging the lock over time if it's not addressed early. If it's installed well, then it typically doesn't fail for a decent amount of time. That being said nothing compares to an old school PT lock with few moving parts in terms of longevity and functionality Ps. Awesome video buddy :)

Good points! I have come across many that just simply had parts worn out over the years, but strike alignment and depth is very important! Thank you for bringing that up! That's also something to pay attention to on wood doors more than anything as they can expand during different times of the year. That's actually a reason many basic locks fail as well... so many twisted tail pieces have fallen victim to poor installations lol When these videos go long I tend to let to clock speed up my pace lol

@@LockandKilo great point about these being issues that affect ALL locks besides electronic locks, that is why my teacher/master (I call him Sensei haha) taught me early on the importance of fitment, alignment, and how to adjust doors to make it more optimal Don't let the fact I bring up extra points take anything away from your video! I'm only trying to add to the awesome explanations and content you currently provide, and have learned a lot from watching your channel :) Keep up all the amazing work!

@@IsaacHashman Oh, it definitely helps to hear more tips! These videos I kind of hit on some key points to not drag on in videos, but still answer those who asked and I didn't get a chance to do videos on! Eventually I will make more in depth vids on these questions where I can focus on each one individually. It's so hard to hit every point in a multi question vid haha Comments like yours help those who watch and read the comments, as well as remind me of points to focus on for the future! Those who have been getting hired on during covid times have been tossed into the field solo wayyy earlier than normal due to a lack of employees at different shops. Tips like yours will definitely help them if they happen across the comment sections in these videos before I can make videos!
