I am so sorry you lost your little mate I know what's its like to lose a pet especially one that you were really close to. I have just got my Honey his around 5months & is a little silver & gray MC & always by my side, but I still miss my old cat Sparky his been gone for around 11 yrs now but I still always think of him he was just Special in a way I can't explain. He was a big black Persian that just walked in one afternoon & made himself at home. Give yourself some time & think about getting another little mate but not until your ready. I hope you are feeling better soon my thoughts & prayers are with you.❤😺💖😿

I'm so sorry! I know it's hard. Magnum (RIP) was alive at 6:00 and passed by 7:00. He was next to my computer chair. Had a terminal heart condition and, yet, I wasn't ready for him to go. I CRY with you.

We are the same about our little Wolfie who had to be put to sleep a year last March, he had Kidney failure, wasn't a Coon but did have a very fluffy coat with little tufts on his ears and it is very very upsetting to lose a pet and is like losing a family member..it will always stick in our minds won't it Kaylee...but always remember the good times with him.

I am sorry for your loss. Our family just lost a little guy who had been with us for 15 of his 16 years. He was my daughters constant companion. I see it has been a few months for you since your guy passed. I hope that you have found that solace you sought by coming here. I try to find ways daily to help my daughter who if very distraught on her loss.

I am a truck driver, my Maine coon is just over a year old. He has been on the truck with me since he was about 12 weeks old. While driving he enjoys sitting in the passenger seat, laying on the dashboard as long as it's not too hot. If he feels the need to play he will bring me a toy so I can toss it to the back of the sleeper and he will bring it back. He enjoys being in the truck. When we go home there are two more Maine Coons there for him to interact with, but when it's time for me to go back to work he will get in the carrier without any fuss and seams real happy to get back to HIS space/home.

We have two Maine Coons, Floki (3 years) and Jax (1.5 years) and are considering another. Maine Coons are definitely for people who really love their cats and want to interact with them a lot. They are smart and playful and definitely benefit from play with their humans as well as with each other. We have a large house so they have lots of room to run (at top speed) and climb and wrestle around. I also take them outdoors on leash and we have a big catio deck that they can access from the living room windows, and an enclosed front porch that they can be out on too. I try to give them a lot of consistency so that they feel safe& secure and know what to expect but I also like to introduce new things to them sometimes so that their days aren't all the same. For example, we have certain toys that I keep in the closet and bring out on occasion and that way it's like a new toy and they are excited to play with them rather than just being bored with toys that they see all the time. We also speak to our Coons a lot and they understand a big group of words that we intentionally repeated often so that they'd learn them. For example, "hungry". We don't use the word unless we plan to feed them and when we do say it, their eyes and ears show you that they know exactly what you're saying. They know quite a few words. They come when called and they talk a lot which we love. Well, as most Maine Coon people would probably agree with, I could write endlessly about our two boys. We really love this breed and I have a saying that "cats are the best dogs" and for sure, Maine Coons are the very best dogs!! If you love to look at cat pictures like I do, you can check out our two Coons on IG @FlokiMyMoki. Oh and Floki the Cat here on YT.

Mr. Beasley B Coon is just 8 months old. He is magnificent! He loves to play, jump, and retrieve his toys. Often he picks up his favorite toy and brings it to me so I will play with him. He has a ravionous appetite, and loves his food. My biggest joy is where ever I am he is close by, sometimes it can be annoying!. I cannot paint, or sew, knit for that matter as he is into it and trying to figure out how to do it. Seriously I love Mr. Beasley. He has made my lonely life an absolute joy.

We were fortunate to get a male MC from the SPCA near us. He was upset as he had been returned twice and was hiding in he box in his cage. I sat in front of his cage with my hand inside and waited. Eventually he came out and sniffed my hand. The girls at the SPCA thought he was not adoptable because he was so timid. Now after several years he is a normal MC cat and weighs in at 16lbs. We live in an old house and he hunts constantly all over it. He is by far the sweetest cat we have ever had. Smart, patient, and affectionate. Oddly we can let him out in the yard by himself and he will stay there for hours at a time hunting all over the place. He NEVER goes outside of the fence although he could easily get out. He has a language all his own and either leads us to what he wants or gives us the sweetest trills and meows. If he wants something he will come and sit by one of us and wait for us to get up and follow him. He is big and black and so handsome. Strangely he will not poop outside but come in to the house to use one of 3 kitty litters( biggest we could find). Sadly locally they sell for about $2500CDN and we would not be able to afford one so a $200 SPCA cat was a deal we could not pass up. We are hopelessly in love with him. And he is a total mommas boy, and follows her around the house. We have a glassed in back porch we call the catio and he has a bed with a heating pad there and he watches the bird feeder at the corner of the porch. He will come and get momma to sit with him out there when he gets lonesome.

I have a 2 year old shelter baby that kept growing and growing. Had his DNA tested and he’s mostly MC. He’s huge and I’m honestly scared to weigh him. My best guess is that he is about 20-22lbs based on carrying him around (he’s a big baby and that has been his preferred form of transportation since I got him at 6mo old) when compared to my 20lb kettle bell. He is so affectionate and always by my side. I pick on him because he still has no idea how big he is so he’s kinda dumb when it comes to stopping on the wood floors (think the race car drift thing when it goes wrong and they knock into the wall - I’m not a car person but I think that makes sense.) However, he knows more commands than any dog I’ve ever owned. Luckily I’m nearly always home to spend time with him. We have our morning and evening playtime routine that is mostly playing fetch and what I call volleyball. His older, much smaller sister (5yo DSH) is maybe 6ish pounds and she keeps him on his toes. They play for more of the day than I ever knew cats could be awake. It’s also sort of cute that she is the obvious boss of the house. I assume that is bc my MC boy is possibly the most polite cat that has ever lived. I fully agree that they wouldn’t be great in a small space or in a home with many people and they’re probably not the best cat for a home with kids. My boy is curious about people when they come to the house as long as it’s on his terms but he’s completely unwilling to be around my 8yo nephew. This was long but hopefully someone finds it helpful-ish maybe

He is into everything. I do love his constant need for companionship. He is always nearby, greets e at the door when I return. I love how he brings his toys into my bed at night, it has become a regular play time. He does bring toys to me when he feels the need to play during the day. I am so in love with my Mr. Beasley. So glad I found a great breeder and he has a great home.

I had the most Wonderful and Amazing kitten to adolescent boy in the world. I got him as a rescue. We did our vet visits on regular basis, but but as he started getting what I thought was overweight I git concerned. I made another vet visit was told he was properly part Coon but was healthy and happy. We want home and he just kept going and getting sweeter every day. I lost him far to soon. I keep my eyes open to all the rescues in and around my area, but so far no luck. I hope one day to be blessed like that agin. Buff was his name.

I've had my main cone for about 6 weeks now his about 4/5months old. His full of life & loves to be played with, if he doesn't get a good dose of attention he will go silly late of a night & won't let you get any sleep. His like a naughty little boy at times but I have noticed they are way more brighter then any other cats I've had. He fits in well with the whole family but he very much gravitates towards me as I am the one the provides his basic needs.

My MaineCoon kitten is now 9 months old. I lost my heart to Penny the day I held her in my arms. I’ve been surprised at her gentleness, as I’ve only had rambunctious kittens, especially my (not my choice) Ragdoll x Bengal, Taffy, who is nearly 8 years old now, & much calmer than when he was young. Penny is very affectionate, & loves to suck my thumb when she cuddles, but, like Peter Pan, she doesn’t stay with me for long. Once she has had her cuddle, she’s off to find a nice secluded place to groom herself, & then sleep for at least a couple of hours. I have a small apartment, but both cats get plenty of love & attention, & seem quite happy in our mutual home. I’m (usually) a very quiet person, who likes silence or quiet music, & non violent movies.

I have a ginger male that I got from our local HS shelter. He has all the markings of a main coon without the papers. I am finding that he has many of the characteristics described in this video. He is 2 yrs old and not as big as the beautiful one on the chair. He was very timid at first when he came into our household which has two cats and two large dogs. Now he is settling in, playing with one of the cats often and swatting at the dogs occasionally. He is entertained by any kind of dangly thing and very smart. He found the drawer on my desk that I put one of his toys and worked with one of the other cats to get it out so that they could continue playing. I do find that he follows me around and comes out of hiding when I come out of my room. One night he walked up to my son's room and knocked at the door and meowed at him to let him in. I was laughing hard at this. Although I do not have official papers that say he is a MC, he definitely has that bloodline in his ancestry.

We were given a beautiful smokey-grey kitten who is only part Maine Coon but is quite unlike other cats we’ve had. She is SO affectionate and brings real joy to our home with her antics. She gets regular play sessions and most days a little time in a harness, which she really doesn’t mind, as I’d like to take her walks in safe places for her exercise and entertainment. Also, yes, we have noticed she does have some quite doggy traits, like trotting around carrying toys in her mouth to put where she wants them.

You're going to LOVE him/her when you get it. My Lazlo is the sweetest gentle giant, & be ready for A LOT of attention when you take him out. Everyone loves Lazlo when he's on his harness/leash, & love to pet him. I carry him with me into stores, & he's so well behaved. He also rides on my lap well when we travel. We just pulled our 5th wheel down to the Lake of the Ozarks from Kansas City, & he laid in my lap in his pink blanket with black kitties on it the entire time. Wishing you the best for your future dreams in all you do. We have a Maine Coon kitten who when we first had him wasn't fluffy at all also quite thin and leggy and we thought he was going stay like a medium hair tabby cat, but at 6 months he just changed completely started getting fluffy, his tail then around his main and then the rest of his body also gained in length and weight, at 10months he now weighs 15.6 lbs, and is very playful and a furniture destroyer 🙂 , but for some reason we can't get him to like wet food he prefers dry but we do get recommended dry food with all the nutrients he needs but would prefer him to start liking wet food, we have tried different raw types but he just won't touch it.

We have two Norwegian Forest Cats. Similar in weight to the Maine Coon (10,5 and 7,5kg), but more slender. A bit aloof, and very intelligent and loving. We installed a dog door in the house that opens when it detects the id chips in the cats, so they can come & go as suits them, an arrangement we're all pleased with. Cats get plenty exercise and entertainment when they want, and come in for food and sleep. They get a half-sachet of cat meat every day, and as many cat biscuits as they want. Neither cat is fat, both being musclebunches.

I have two part Maine coons boy and girl, from same litter, they are smart cats, understand a lot, our male would follow me in the mornings rounds when we had chickens and a garden. I have learned quickly with him, that you can’t close any door lucking him on the other side, always wants to be able to get to me when need be. He went as far as to learning how to open doors. The female likes staying close to home, she would come out and stay with us on the porch but as soon as we got up (specially me) she would run to the door to get in, she might be one of the most territorial cats I have ever seen to a point that she was mad for a month+ when we brought a puppy home 4 years ago, and now they are best friends. I often laugh now that I have a little train of two cats and a dog fallowing me around 😊

I have a Maincoon tabby! He's a survivor! His human got sick and never left the hospital! major stock! He spent 2 years outside alone on a coyoty-infested island! I ran a small rescue from my home and at one time had 7 stays coming in for food! My big boy doesn't like to be touched too much! Had one eye only( fighting) and run the ground around my house! It's been now close to 4 years with me and tons of patience and TLC. He became my friend! ( with lots of weird attitudes) He's my best buddy. But so hard to give him his flea treatments! any suggestions?

Regarding flea treatment: I am using the Serento flea collar. Expensive but last for 8 months. It was recommended by my vet because it was so difficult to get the liquid on the back of his neck. I found that the collar is effective for a year! Makes it very easy to remember when to change it. I highly recommend it!

I feel like this is just good care for most cats. Have had a lot of variation and in my experiance I find that it's more abut individuality then breed. My curent maine coons, Mewsette and Félicité are very diffrent. Mewsette was very antisociall as a kitten, bad start in life, it took me two months to make her confident enugh around me and even more time to get her to move around in the apartment confident. Did watch a lot of youtube videos, ex. Jaxon Glaxy, to get edvice in her upbringing. After more dedicaded time she started to sleep in my bed and follow me around all the time. She is such a good cat, she is so easy going and was very easy to train. Saddly, 2 times she went to emargency care and at 6 months old was diagnosed with pica. Now at 2 years old, she is more independent, she meets me at the door and comes when she wants cuddels. At night she goes to sleep with me but later goes to one of her own beds. Is still skitich around new people but is starting to accept the ones that visit more often. She dosen't play with them, will run away it they approtch, but is okey with having them in the house. Still a work in progress. I also did take her outside a lot before, witch she enjoyed, but has starting to do it less sens she is now showing signs of agrestion outside. I don't now if I need to take her out more or just stop... If anyone has a sudgestion, pleas tell me. Félicité on the other hand is my newest addition to the familey and is still just a small kitten. She is not so confident, but she is new so am not suprised, and is much more playful and actually plays with cat toys. Something Mewsette dosen't do, she plays tag with me and fetch with papper balls, that is it. All other times she mostley sleeps or watch outside, have a dedicated cat space in the conservatory. Hopfully the two of them will become a good pair that can play and keep eatch other company when I'm at work

I adopted my female Main Coon about 2 years ago. I always adopt an older cat because I feel a lot of people want a kitten, the older ones were already in a home and don't understand why they're at a shelter. All they knew about her is that she was surrendered after her owners had a fire and was about 5 years old. Well, they were right about her biting. The first day I had her, I ended up in Emergency with a bite and a swollen hand from trying to pet her. Time has healed my hand and her attitude. Now, she is so affectionate and loving towards me, she follows me everywhere, sleeps close to me, and has her own seat in the kitchen where she'll sit with me for hours. She loves me to pet and rub her belly but she still won't let anyone else be too close to her. She weighs 20 lbs. so she can be intimidating. Lately though, she started to rub against some of my house guests legs, so I'm hoping she's starting to get better and friendlier and start to let others pet her.

I got the 2 year old, at 3 months, from the same breeder and there was no introduction time. 10 hissed once the 1st day and once the second day and never again. I'd say MC's don't like to be alone yet they love their people as much as they love their siblings.

We got our beautiful Mainecoon boy Milo and 4 weeks after getting him we decided to give him a Mainecoon brother Max. The best decision we have made. Our boys are not affectionate 24/7 but the alway want to be in the same room, unless they need some personal space but in general they are always near us. Luckily we both work from home, mostly and we spend heaps of time with them. They are very much liked dogs and do no't like to be left alone for too long. When we go on holidays we arrange a live-in cat sitter. Mainecoons are companions, they do not like to be alone and they need love and affection. Anyone considering to get one should know this :).

Honestly the main coon is my dream cat. I am still thinking about getting one. I already have 2 cats. 1 stray(7 years guessed) I adopted form a shelter and 1 half main coon (5 years old) that was a breeding upsie from my dad who bought a main coon and forgot to nutter it on time. My half coo boy plays a bit rough with my other cat some times leaving wounds. And I wonder I getting a real coo , one his size would help him play better. Yet I also fear alianating my other cat.

My Rikki was a beautiful white with gray markings like he was wearing a Batman mask and a saddle. A local store had my brand of litter on sale Buy one, get 2nd at 50% off. I wanted 6 and store only had 5 of the unscented so I bought 1 scented which I hadn't used before. Turned out, poor Rikki was allergic! He licked himself bald in large patches in less than 2 days and his bare skin got infected too. I was half afraid my vet would think I was abusing the poor baby but he gave him a shot of cortical-steroids and some antibiotics. This was in late spring after he shed his winter coat and it took until late fall to heal and grow his fur back. Definitely not a good look. I sure miss this guy. He was proud "Uncle" to all the other stray kittens I took in and would let them crawl all over him and chase his tail. When they got too rambunctious, he would lift a giant paw and pin the offender gently but firmly to the ground for like 10 seconds until they calmed down. I had him for 18 years. I am currently feeding a stray outside I suspect was a drop off. She looks like a MC to me and even though I have 12 short hairs, I'm so tempted to bring her inside. She is so sweet.

My Maine coon is a black smoke male named Alazar. He just turned a year old in February and weighs 20 pounds. The only food he'll eat is Purina Pro Plan for sensitive stomach. He's not a very social cat. He likes to do his own thing, but he does want snuggles every now and then...just not often. His sole purpose in life seems to be the destruction of my $300 rug, in my living room. He is so sweet, but I am going to have to sell him, due to health issues. If the vet says he's a domestic, he's a domestic... Size also doesn't mean a whole lot... while maine coons can be exceptionally large some are more or less normal cat size. My domestic is 16 lbs and hasn't fluctuated in like 2 and a half years. Also a lot of the tendencies of a maine coon mentioned here are just cat things... Like most cats don't like being left alone too long, you should feed all cats the best quality food you can feed them, etc...

Coonies have enormous feet. Sometimes people mistake polydactyls as Coonies, but extra toes don't make the feet big. They have a blunt, wide muzzle with that lion face, and their bones are heavier. They feel like a dog when you pet them because of their muscles. They have long, silky hair that feels like human hair over a wooly undercoat that is a royal pain to groom. I used a metal flea comb.

Years ago, I had a Maine Coon named Thor, The Thunder Cat. At about 15 lbs he would jump off the kitchen counter and shake the house. I happen to share him with my neighbor whose wife had a hair salon in the house. One day Thor decided to chase a rat into the hair salon at full speed. He and the rat did a wing-over as they hit the far wall. His wife and client reached for the chandeliers and finally came down on one salon chair. The rat was finally killed by Thor's little sister. Another day a rat was quietly going through the Ivy down below the portico of my neighbor’s house. Jumping from 1 1/2 story’s high, Thor landed on the rat with a splat. The poor rat never had a chance. Finally, Thor trapped a rat in a dirt hole in the basement and waited a day and half for the rat to come out. My neighbor had to bring him food and water. Starving and tired, the rat finally tried to make a break for it and was terminated by Thor as he tried to run out of the basement. He was also obsessed with my roommate Keith who was the guitarist in a band. Poor Keith was allergic to cats and didn't particularly like them either. Thor would wait for him in his bed or in the downstairs living room just like a groupie. That nutty cat became very famous in my social circle and church.

Yes, feed them the better cat food and use cat litter that has activated carbon in it, remembering to scoop daily and change it often. It isn't just nutrition. Their poops will become death bombs on cheap food. If they are outdoor at all and hunt, this shouldn't cause too much of a problem, but their are other risks with having an outdoor cat.

Some tips to consider. The water bowl needs to be on a mat or held down as they will drag the bowl around. Toilet seats need closed or they will be in it. The highest parts of the house, like counters, refrigerators, shelves, they will try and get up there. not very often but sometimes you can see their mood change to evil, starts running around the house, like a mad man for a minute then gets that look and watch out, other cats in the house beware. they can out run any cat effortlessly, and easily have 3x times the leg size of a normal cat. scratch pad is required or you'll be sorry, they will love it no matter what style it is and they will destroy it. I buy 3 a year, for my boy jack, hes a 24 pounder, with a beautiful lions face. wish we could post pics

My cat Jack is a 26lb 6 year old who is simply a dog in cat clothing. When they chirp at you that is the sign he wants something and it should not be ignored. He is at the door when I come home from work and the chirping begins, he must be acknowledged by name and petted, as quick as possible, they like routine, i throw my work back pack on the bed, he jumps on it and rolls around on it, as i prepare for the rubbing of the head he must get. it takes only a few minutes of attention and then he lays by me in peace. if water bowl is empty or no food or the kitty box is full he will let you know. They eat paper and cords to anything like a phone charger or head set. tin foil cords like a tv cord, dont leave out important documents. they will slap you with those big claws, and they immediately know they did wrong, even if your messing with them, they come back quickly for love and to make up. Jack at bed time sleeps on the edge of the bed up by my head on opposite side but starts off rolled over against me for head rubs, it last about 5 minutes then he independently moves like clock work. only so much love accepted

Big feet and head, long bushy tail and so beautiful. She has a double coat of fur, it is so thick, also around her face and belly. She is VERY picky about her food, she will not eat anything with LIVER, and it better be expensive or she smells and walks away. LOL She wakes me up literally by laying her whole body across my neck. It wakes me up alright. LOL!!! SHE HATES HER NAILS CUT, she screams like a woman. Scared me like the dickens first time she did it. She LOVES her toys, and she goes in the yard with me, she loves to play. I am 5'6" and she can jump as high as my shoulder to catch a bug. She is not very talkative unless she wants something. And treat time is her favorite time. Love My Daisy Mae
