This past weekend, while I was trying to cut a stump in the front yard, a dog that looks a lot like a German shepherd came up with a tennis ball and dropped it at my feet. I tried to ignore him, but he kept looking down at the ball and then looking up at me, As if to say, throw my ball. Come on, James, throw my ball. I did throw it a couple times. and he tore off and immediately grabbed the ball and brought it right back. I suppose it's possible for a dog to have too much enthusiasm and too much energy for me.

I grew up around GSDs , my boy was raised with a reward system of special toys, sometimes treats, lots of pets and praise. His job is walking with me down the lane to get our Mail. He then carries a rolled up tote with lightweight mail inside back to the house. He also helps round up our free range chicken flock. Socialization is walking trails, going with me to stores. The feed store is one of his favorite places.

Our Ragdoll, Bad Boy, was abandoned in the Northern Minnesota woods. He was chased by dogs, fell out of a tree, and lost one kidney as a result. He’s 17 now and we can’t imagine life without him because he’s such a large personality. He had been declawed and neutered by his former owners, whoever they were. I think he wishes he were our only cat but he’s not. ❤

Small. stubborn, spoilt, aloof. Not my kind of dog at all. More an old ladies dog. Then I got one. Best friend, companion, clown, head turner, good listener. cheerful all day everyday. Guess I'm hooked.

My dog enjoys a cup coffee every morning with plate a chocolate pancakes. Then martini to relax after a ruff day barking at all the squirrels trying to take over the world and the pesky mail man that tries to break into the house everyday. Sooo stressful!!!!😂😂😂😂

my dog is half beagle and half shepherd and he loves to chew! He is left alone too long but he does have a terrier mix for a brother to keep him company but he does not get enough exercise because i do work too much. I do have a dog sitter who comes in the midday to let them out! But he is terrified of people and has bitten several people(luckily) not my dog sitter! But he will not let me put him on a leash so i am powerless to change anything for him. Does anyone have a suggestion besides getting rid of him( which is what most people i talk to tell me to do)?

Our family GS could detect an appointment with the V. E. T. even over a phone conversation or the preparations for the car ride. We would have to chase him down and drag him across the garage floor to get him to go. No, enticing him with treats did not work. Also, at the veterinary office, our normally confident even boisterous GS, would be timid and have his tail between his legs. Like he smelled the anxiety of the thousands of other dogs that were there before.

I have a male Maine Coon that is 2 years old. I've only had him 2 months and he already comes when I call his name. He loves to be brushed ie entire body. Loves to be pet and follows me around like a dog. He's very sweet and wakes me up every morning by pouncing on me. He doesn't like playing on his own or with interactive toys. He demands that I play with him. He will lead me to his wand toy, look at it and then at me. Doesn't like loud noises or new people. Favorite pasttime, watch the birds. He's not a lap cat but likes to sleep next to me and he enjoys being held when I'm walking around. Doesn't bite or scratch me and uses his scratching pole. I hit the jackpot when getting this cat. He really is wonderful. I've never had to give him medication so I don't know how he'd take it. He's also very neat with the litter box, shocking due to how big he is ie 20 lbs. I'm considering leash training him but I'm on the fence about it. He's never been outside and seems to have zero interest in going out. Any comments about that?

I am a new GSD owner. My 5 month old puppy is quite literally the best thing that has happened to me. We have always had golden retrievers and I love them as well, but my GSD is much more loyal, protective and affectionate than my goldens ever were ❤ I will always have this breed from now on

German shepherds seem to mirror the German soul and character most of all German dog breeds: - faithfulness - reliability - courage - sensitivity and sensibility - family-oriented and protective thereof - love of and need for order, structure and hierarchies - and sometimes fanatical.....

I've only seen video to 2:12 and it RINGS SPOT ON! I brought home my German Shepherd/Golden Lab mix two years ago and she is everything I wanted in this mix; that I planned on bringing home for about 10-years before I considered myself "ready" for her. I bought a kennel 5 years before I saw a sign in front of an Arby's for G.S./Lab mix puppies. I was waiting for specifically this mix. I had a black lab years ago, Tanner, who was awesome; but very difficult to keep "home!" I couldn't bring myself to have him neutered and paid the price - he broke a 1/2" cable once and was nearly impossible to keep from carousing the neighborhood looking to get laid. There was a sheep farmer about a mile from us and Tanner would get lose and go chase the sheep. Once he came home with a butt full of bird shot from his escapades. One time our house was broken into and cleaned out. I have no doubt that Tanner was helping them carry my stuff out. An air traffic controller at the time... When we came home from work, Tanner was locked in his pen in the back yard - apparently put their by the thieves just to get him out of the way. So... this time I got "Chewy" (Chewbacca - she sounds like the Star Wars critter when she want's my attention!), this time with the German Shepherd blood, hoping for better results if it happens again. It's questionable!!! She is very loving and a ham for attention from EVERYONE! Every time I take her out among the humans - EVERYONE comments on how beautiful she is. I'm a PROUD PAPA!!! BUT... Intelligent, challenging, energetic are just some of her traits. As a 69y.o. retired, disabled vet (who was looking for a pup that would resurrect my former active life) I now have a HAND FULL!!! I take her out to play Frisbee every day just to run off her energy. Sadly, the as*holes that I got her from clearly abused her - I suspect that they slammed her tail and left front leg in a door as abuse due to her energy. She now has a limp on her front left leg and a curiously gimpy tail. When I first went to the "breeder," Chewy came right up to me and stuck her nose in mine - It seemed like an obvious choice. Wanting to have a dog to ride my bike with and explore the nature in Florida (a disgusting Sauna of a place!!!), it is typical of my luck to have another being to "care for!!!" that only wants, and wants, and wants - about every 10 or 15 minutes! BTW: tRump is a SOCIOPATH AND HAS NO BUSINESS IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR ANYWHERE NEAR "LEADERSHIP!!!" Welcome to America!!!

I am a dog lover and we've had a variety of dogs since we've been married, almost 47 years. Our red nose pit bull, Sweetie, kept nudging and sniffing at my husband's back and she did this for about 3 months. He ended up having to go to the Dr because of blood in his urine. We told the Dr. what Sweetie had been doing and she said that some hospitals use dogs for that purpose. Dogs are so very smart. I can't imagine life without them.

I'm glad that there are videos out there like this one. Too often, I run into people that got a husky or GSD or some other breed that requires a knowledgeable owner providing leadership, exercise, mental stimulation etc. and by the time they are 1 to 3, I find out for many reasons including aggression and reactivity that they turned them into a rescue, or now on some farm. Or the husky that people leave in a crate all day while they go to work. These kind of videos help educate people BEFORE they choose any breed. in the end, the dog suffers especially when people pick breeds for their "looks" or they seem them on TV series, or they like the idea of having a GSD (like owning a porsche).

Our boy is 2 years old. We found him as a pup and after not finding his owner, had him neutered and chipped. He' s two much to handle for me and my husband but we love him. He's too rough to play with our 3 Yorkshire Terriers. My husband says no more dogs as we are both 80 & 82 years. Any ideas on slowing him down so he can have playmates? The Yorkies are10+ years old.

I have the best little Pom on Planet earth. She is smart, sweet, well behaved, lovable etc. Bella Rosa is a gift from God. She did get hurt, and I do not know when. She lost her left front leg. She had surgery to repair the damage to her shoulder. The vet sent her home with no pain meds., did not tell me I would need to crate her, and did not answer the emergency line all night. The crate was in the garage, for many years, and it took me hours to clean it. The fact that the emergency line was busy all night, meant they did major orthopedic surgery then abandoned her. Be careful who you take your precious dog to, since if I had read the reviews on this vet, she never would have gone there. She just turned 14, and I am so thankful I have her. I no longer let her sleep in bed with me, since she may have been injured jumping out of my bed. I am heart broken about her injury and how she was treated by a cold, uncaring vet.

I like how most will not just go through a room. They observe the room. They pick a spot where someone has to step over them to get to you or in to the room. This means I have to step over them while they calmly stay put! My cowdog does same.

I get lots of kisses from dogs that I just met. Dogs know who's afraid or unfriendly and sense it. I live in a small apartment , live alone, had to get to rid of my car and in pain everyday but when I see a dog, the pain goes away! I pet them after seeing their body language and know which ones I can show love to. I don't show fear... just love. Many people tell me to get a pet but as much as I would love it, I can't pay pet insurance, vet bills, shots, walks, etc. I feel that if you are unable to take care of a pet and can't afford it. I shouldn't have one. Not fair to the pet. I also think about my age and a pet outliving me. Then what? I have nobody close as my children live in far away states

After our two other dogs passed due to old age, we took on a 3 months old goldendoodle the very first time now 8 months now. It grew a lot from a small puppy. His hair now covers his eyes wonder if he can see! While walking thru the wood, his long hair picked up seeds so many of them that I had to spend hours to get rid of them for him. I do comb his hair often. He can stand against the kitchen counter and helped himself with whatever he can reach his hands on then get diarrhea if he ate something not good. He is a high maintenance dog compared to other breed of dog and need lot of love that we try to give it to him!
