My cat was my lifeline also. Your cat is a gift, all cats are. My condolences on your loss. It getting harder and harder to define "normal". As I say, Define Normal. I agree with you!!! I have 10 cats, 4 indoors and 6 outdoors. The indoors you can control them better than the outdoors. I give my cats try and can cat food daily. The 2 of the indoors wants also a treat, the other two have tantrums if there is not food in their plates. The outdoors i cannot cutch them, but they eat dry and normal food like us, also can cat food (too many for one can) anyway some of then they like meat, some they like dry food and same can cat food. I never have less than 6-7 cats. They are my life!!!

I love my kitty. I took him in when a friend from Church lost her home. That was back in 2012 or 13. My Mother was still alive when I got him. She left us in Dec 2014. He is around 13-14 years old now. He imprinted on me immediately, I fell in love with him immediately. I nearly left him myself in 2015, heart disease. In Feb 2016 I had bypass surgery and was not able to come home for 4 weeks. He was so happy to see me that I didn't think he would ever stop purring or laying in my lap. He's my best friend and companion. He is the very best gift anybody has ever given me. I don't consider myself a pet owner. I consider myself the lucky recipient of a very loving being. He makes me smile and laugh. I make he knows I love him each and everyday. Oh, he's a great mouser. They get in the house, they don't stand a chance.

When my tortoiseshell kitty was still little I trained her to accept a harness to take me for a stroll. It was very cute as she would pick up feathers discarded by pigeons & magpies. Lacey would proudly carry the feather until she found the next one. Drop the one from her mouth & pick up the new one. When she was almost all grown up I let her go outside on her own. I felt very proud of her when she brought me feathers. I have a whole collection, unfortunately, Lacey is no longer interested in feathers. The order of the day is now mice, bats & birds, also the odd earthworm.

My cats won't eat wet food either (or anything with salmon in it). If I buy the small tins with meat and gravy they might lick the gravy off. If I give them the pate, they leave it there to get dried out. So, to make sure they get moisture, I have two pet fountains. They enjoy drinking when the water is moving. And they love sharing their litter box. They ignore the second one.

Well it depends on the situation. Maybe these cats (remember they're rescue cats) were exposed to just one type of food. We don't know the entire story. There are ways to get cats moisture in their digestive systems, it just takes some exploring to see what works best for them and the cat parent. It's called trial and error.@@TimothyLittleton-en5zq

The main problem with lactose is diarrhea. There's lactose free milk though, which is safe for cats. Also, a lot of cheeses are very low in lactose ( like parmesan) - Yoghurt also can be beneficial. We have one cat that absolutely loves cheese and another, who insists on his portion of greek yoghurt every day. Note that you only should give small amounts though. For our cheese eater, it's 3-5 small bite sized chunks (every now and then, not every day ), for our yoghurt cat, he gets a tablespoon per day max. Yoghurt is also great to mix in medication, if they need some.

@frayneashley1477 @ayrabatool6649 To teach cats, it requires patience. Try to teach them as you would teach a child. Show them what you don't like, and act like it upsets you, and show them what you are ok with while acting like it. And after they listen just reward them for listening. And do the same again until it works. Your cat will learn it. My cats learned to sit down and wait for their food, learned not to go to places, for example not walk under the christmas tree etc... Also. every time when you are there and seeing that the cat does what you taught them, give them positive feedback, like: "you are so clever". They love that, and they will cooporate more and more in the future. Especially if you give them some treats too if they do what you ask. Also, while interacting, they learn how to train you :)

I believe cats are very much like us in the ways that are complicated ... like I have a cat who adopted me yrs ago and she has maintained the same healthy eating habit for 8 yrs. I pore a scoop dry food for her in the morning, and throughout the day until dinner, she periodically takes small breaks from picking on me, sleeping, or spying on my recently adopted cat who is so lovable and quick to cuddle 😅 To eat small portions of her own choosing... However, I miss cuddley Kitty, I mentioned... she'd eat 3 × her body weight if it was available within her reach... So I think it's wise to feel each cat out or any animal , treating them as a conscious, living, individuals with their own wants , needs, tastes... and coexist accordingly, hopefully, with each other's well-being In mind

I too fed my cats a quality dry cat food. Please look into a moist food to replace the dried food. Kidney failure is a real threat if fed dried food as main course. Many vets in good faith built a business selling dried food. Some choose to keep their retail business. They ignore the dried food issues. Science diet was my food of choice. I was told it was top on list by a vet. Now Science diet makes a special line for kidney failure instead of switching to making wet food in place of dried.

There's actually a very good alternative to washing a cat that most people have in their house. Take a somewhat scratchy cloth and get it moist with water, then scrub anything sticky that the cat can't get out of his fur. That's what I've done sometimes, because a wet cloth bothers them a lot less than a bathtub washing. Cat shampoo being kept for cases where this fails, it leaves the option of a bath if a simple wet cloth fails. The kitty I have right now hates washing and made a sad face last time, so it's reserved for only if he has something really icky that doesn't come off easily or once when he got a terrible smell on him. He's a lot happier without being wet every month like some cats are. Washing can still be ok if you reserve it for the rare cases when every other option fails, and if you cuddle the kitty and keep it warm until it dries off a bit, it will reduce how stressful washing is. Mine hasn't needed washed in almost a year, and really only needs grooming help for his fluffy fur shedding and sometimes his food getting on him. If he manages to get sticky cat food on his head, he has trouble cleaning it and might not wiped off a little, which he doesn't complain about so much because a scratchy cloth is similar to his tongue.

I've lived here for 6 years and have been taking care of the wild cat family since I moved in. Mama had 5 kittens total, but 3 of them had disappeared. It's hurt me when they disappeared because I know, I just know what happened with them. The total cat's I have outside is 6. They eat well every day. I make sure of that. I am disabled and I only get my SSI to live on, but I always make sure they ALL have food. If that mean I don't eat one night, they do, they are special to me.

I commend you for your dedication to making sure that your animals are fed. , even before yourself. Your cats are outdoor cats though and it is natural instinct to hunt. They will eat Mice ,small rodents, etc. If you feed an outdoor cat continuously, I like it as an indoor cat, it will come to depend on that ,and not hunt by natural instinct. Of course, if you're in an environment that Does not possibly Have outdoor food available for them? Then you should definitely feed them.I'm just saying, make sure you don't enable them to be able to hunt by themselves by constantly feeding them when they are outdoor cats and it is their natural instincts to hunt and feed themselves!

Great advice. A mama cat dumped out during an economic downturn eventually ended up in my neighborhood across the street. I would go over to feed her and as I saw a car coming I put up my hand ✋ Stop mama cat, she immediately sat down and waited for me. She had a litter but it was the next litter I got her to come into my yard and eventually into the first room, inside the door, the dining room, since it was closed off to the house per se she settled into enjoying being very pregnant. I created a simple box two sides cut off, blankets in the box but her favorite was. The big beach towel I had that draped the box with plenty of fresh air and visibility. I made sure she had two bowls of fresh water everyday along with her food. Happy Cat. She had seven healthy beautiful kitties, great mom and when they finally open their eyes she paraded them around the kitchen (I was cooking) showing me her pride and joys. Then off she would head to my bedroom where she could crawl under the bed stretch out and seven little tails wiggling back and forth followed mama cat to get their dinner. We didn’t have problems finding forever homes for them, except the one I wanted and knew no one would take. It was my beautiful black kitties I knew no one would take. New parents would come in to see the litter and I would pass them the kitties. My black kitty would leave my lap pass to the new lap and they would put her on the floor. When the day of visitors was over I took my black cat and two or three followered me into my bedroom where I put them on the bed so they could play and cuddle. Every night when I came in from work I would pick up my black sweety and tell her she was going to be my cat, I had to offer her to others or the lady of the house would get upset. One day, I said I am keeping my black kitty and she is best mates with out black and white kitty who I know has been promised. She has not returned and if she can’t take her then me and kitty want her to stay with us. That is how it turned out, with the help of our Angels and Guardians we became a very close family. They were sisters in the womb, in kitten hood and as growing young adults. They both became my comfort kitties when I suddenly had to have heart surgery. The one thing left off this list is if a kitty is mates with or born together if possible try to adopt them together. It was the first thing my new veterinarian told me, how smart it was that I adopted them together. Especially since I didn’t have any family around during their years with mr when I was working remotely. That’s the other thing the two of them keep each other close, protected, and adapt easily as I moved from place to place three or four times. Blessings to all who can raise two kitties as together they remain happy and healthy in the security of being together with their human. I raised my kitties with hand signals which they responded to very well. I never shouted or even thought to stick my finger in their face to scold them (which rarely happened). . I made sure they knew they couldn’t get on the counter tops or eating tables and was careful around kitchen hot appliances. . Simply hand signals talking to them and that was all that was needed. I did have two litter boxes after they got older. They both traveled well to see the vet and everyone at the clinic loved them. I think this message is too long but I wanted to add number 22 Adopt Two Kittie Mates when possible. I never comment on the Pet videos although I start my day off with the joy of finding a new pet video that makes me happy and I feel uplifted at how kind most of these volunteers and Vet Rescue Organizations are so willing to take a chance on a tiny kitten only days old picked up off the wet street and taken to this vet rescue center. Wrapped in his car blanket, he brought the little tiny kitty in and Vet looked up into this man’s face and said we’ll do everything to save her but she’s had rough start. She wouldn’t have lasted another few hours on the street. The man nodded and they went to work getting her warm, hydrated, and then some tepid liquid food she gobbled up almost too fast. The man held her in his blanket as the vet took vitals and examined her. Then he got to feed this new little life barely having a chance until he scooped her up. He came back every spare minute he had to help with her care and pray for her recovery. The vet finally told him one day he thought she was going to pull through with her strength and determination. Eventually this man who lived alone and had a busy job wanted to adopt her, the vet smiled as she climbed into his arms and promptly fell asleep. She had found her forever home with this wonderful man who needed her as much as she needed him in mutual love and caring. That’s my happy ending this day. (My phone gets funky and some times don’t write out what I type.

#7 - FEEDING YOUR CAT ONLY DRY KIBBLE - IS THE NUMBER ONE BAD PROBLEM. Please listen to my story the poster of the video said that your cat will get a dry nose and mouth but that is not all he will get that is dry. My cat's intestines got dry because my vet was SO BAD and didn't ASK OR STOP ME FROM DRY FOOD OR TELL ME any different even after the intestines got dry and I had to spend $4,000 on a surgery for a piece of the cat's bowel to be removed. my vet was so stupid they still didn't ask me what I was feeding the cat, and I continued on a dry diet until I read somewhere online that it was the worst diet cats could ever be on. Please feed your cat wet food!!!! I don't care how expensive it is, the worst wet food on Earth is better than the most expensive dried food. Dried food also leads to obesity and diabetes in male cats that are older especially. THIS GOES FOR DOGS TOO!!! No animal shpuld eat processed carbs for every meal!!!! Please save yourself the trouble of losing your friend to diabetes. I had a dog that had diabetes and we were able to give it insulin. I tried to give insulin to a cat and it was almost impossible because a cat has a different system when it comes to insulin it's more like a rat then a small mammal like a dog is. Just whatever you do please give your cat wet food. Don't end up like me and have to beg and borrow from family and friends to keep your cat alive and have to do a surgery that costs thousands. My cat almost died and it was all preventable..... I left that vet by the way after they failed to even ask what I was feeding the cat even after the surgery. Thank you for reading my TED Talk

Thank you for your story. It is remarkable but fantastic your cat survived I am glad your cat survived. That vet should have their license revoked. Permenantly. It sounds like they just wanted your money with no regard for your cats well being and health over all. As for dry kibble yes it can cause problems but in some moderation, occasionally mixed with wet food it is not so bad. Some times wet food alone is good, but so is dry food. The good and best kinds are ones you can get from a veterinarians practice. It's good to know you left that particular vet. I am sorry you both had to go through all that. Feeding them only wet food can create problems too. I advise anyone with pets in general to avoid the pet food at the grocery store. Yes it's cheap but very bad for them, because it's cheaply made with poor nutrition.@@kukulcanessalm6257

that is very weird. Especially with crazy sleep times. Considering that all cats are nocturnal. For the health and well being of the cat all cat parents need to follow what the vets and experts say. Grant it there are some who don't know what they're talking abou t or don't care. But most do care. Taking care of any animal is a big responsibility, if it's you're first time and you're not sure what to do' reach out to pet rescues, ASPCA or in my case OSPAC(Ontario Canada), vets. etc.

In the US, they do, or at least used to do it as a matter of routine. I find it horrifiying too. It means your furniture is of more value to you than your cat. It makes him a cripple who can't venture outside anymore.

It's illegal where I live. No vet would ever do it. The video is correct. Just imagine cutting all of your fingers at the top knuckle. Our lovely cat is currently clawing our sofa and we are trying to get her to stop.... plenty of scratch posts around and the next plan is to have treats handy for whenever she uses the post. While I try not to yell, I will not allow her to continue clawing the sofa if I catch her doing it in which case I talk calmly to her, pick her up and carry her over to the scratching post.

My cats are both fixed, of course, but even so occasionally my male cat will bother my female cat in a way that causes her distress. They were both kittens from the same litter so it is more brother/sister behavior. But I still have to yell at him telling him a firm "No." The yelling used to be a lot worse but I dont do it any more. Nowadays he gets it fine, he rarely picks on her now but if I do see him doing it, all I have to do is look at him and he stops it. He still loves me just fine.

Great video...but wanted to add a suggestion... Even though the title said the video would contain a list of things NOT to do your cat, I think you should also have included the word `not` in each of your subtitles. Once you get into the video, you have to keep reminding yourself that each topic is something one shouldn't do to their cat. A minor item, but I think it would help.

Great video! Most of this I've learned from Jackson Galaxy but some of it was new information. Lately I've been trying to condition my 2 short haired cats to let me brush them. After hearing your advice, I'll make it a priority. Just want to also mention, I had no idea anyone would shave off their cat's fur 😧. Maybe if you found an extremely neglected cat that was matted so badly no amount of brushing would help 🤔.

Sadly, some people never brush their cats. Some don't even own a cat brush! Getting a lion cut for a long-haired cat is the lazy way to deal with matting.

I have 1 living cat still and 17 I know all too well as the door was open while me and I think my grandmother were talking and the cat snuck out and stood beside the car tire, we were able to get him back in the house though, unharmed as well. Since then I been worried about whether I left the door open when leaving the house and if oreo(the cat) has gotten out by accident, which is never has happened again thankfully

Topic request: how to train my cat to use the scratching post. She has 3 of them but doesn't use them, instead she sharpens her claws on my furniture. I've introduced her to the scratching post, but after 1 sniff she walked away and has had no interest since.😐

I had that issue. When I’d catch them scratching the furniture, I’d gently boop on the nose (like mom cats do) say no firmly, pick them up and bring them to the scratchy post, set them down and bring their paws up to the post and simulate scratching and say good girl/boy in a positive praising voice. It only took a few times and they got it. No yelling, and be gentle, firm, and consistent.

Also, try different styles of scratchy surfaces. I have posts w/hemp rope, carpet, wood, cardboard scratchers. My current cat loves the cardboard and carpet ones. My previous pair loved the rope, carpet posts and cardboard scratchers.

Thanks for your kind reply and advice. My previous cat left the furniture alone and always used the carpet scratching post. He took to it like a duck to water, as soon as he saw it, didn't need any training. My current cat 🐈 has 3 scratching posts, 2 carpet and 1 rope post, but prefers the furniture. It's interesting how each cat has a different personality!😺

@ZeroRugrats67 Will I be hurting my cat emotionally if I put her outside at night? 🐈 as she wakes me in the middle of the night to be let out when I let her sleep inside. I don't have a litter tray for her in the house, she uses the outdoors! But she has lots of pet beds in the sunroom where she can sleep at night😺, and it lets me get a good night's rest too. So will she be emotionally hurt if I don't let her sleep inside at night? I'm worried she'll feel rejected if I don't let her stay inside at night. 🙁 But I need a restful, uninterrupted nights sleep too! 😴

I have 2 cats who just turned 1 yr old. We let them roam downstairs a couple of times a day for exercise and for them to look out the backyard patio. Although I'm not trying to scare them, trying to get them to go back up in their room can sometimes be exhausting. I try to pick up my orange cat Zeus but he runs pass and through me which causes me to chase him and raise my voice. All is well in the end as he forgives me with loving kisses.

Love all this sensible advice and it confirms that cat companion humans must learn as much as they are able to, in order to not make life altering mistakes with their cat or cats. The kindest decision is to ask a few seasoned cat care professionals and advice sources. Make best decisions always and keep the home safe, quiet, calm, and have many cat escape areas for cats to have private sleep time away from busier areas, they may go to be closer to their kind human companions. Cats do need human interaction a few times daily with kind words, eye blinks and grooming moments. Clean litterboxes 2x daily and replace litter at sensible intervals, as cats appreciate cleanliness there and throughout the home.❤

The one about not leaving food available for your cat is simply untrue. In the wild cats hunt small prey several times a day and trickle-feeding is actually the best way to provide nutrition to domestic cats too. Most cats will have the ability to regulate themselves and will not just swallow everything you give them as dogs do. You should worry about closely managing your cat's eating only in those rare cases where it shows inability to regulate itself
