My boy was a beast for a Maine Coon. He reached 32 lbs. He was the sweetest and most gentle fur baby. He was very protective of me, even when my sugar levels were low. I will never be able to express in words, how much of an impact Sebastian left in me. It's been 2 years already. I don't know if I'm ready for another MC yet... He simply left a dent in my heart.

Sorry to hear he's gone. I'm guessing you're diabetic? Was he aware of your sugar levels? Never heard of cats having that ability. Thinking of getting a dog that can detect low sugars myself since I'm a type 1, but dogs are just sooooo high maintenance.

@@thecandyman9308 Thank you. I still cry for Sebastian. Honestly, I don't know how he did it, but he knew. I guess it could be my heartbeat or by my smell. He would wake me up in the middle of the night crying close to my ear... Cats are very smart, but Maine Coons are different. They're like dogs in a way, very loving, friendly, demanding, and instinctively protective. He was a huge head-turner everywhere I took him. I don't know how many selfies he's got out there with different peoples. He was drop dead gorgeous, and I think he knew it too. Lol. Gosh! I miss him so much. Believe it or not, sometimes I can feel him walking on my bed, mainly at night. Sounds spooky, uh? But I'm not scared. It also happens with my other cat (Shooshoo) I miss her very much too... Anyway, I agree with you about dogs. They're awesome, but very dependent on us for everything, as opposed to cats... Once again, thank you for your kind words. Get a cat, they'll make your days very happy, and laughter never stops. Doodles! 🙂

If I stop petting her, she will look up at me to start petting her again.. Doesn't meow but makes little noises to get my attention or "talk to me". She follows me everywhere. Huge kitty, fluffy as heck, has a mane during the winter months and it's like she knows she's gorgeous.

We were fortunate to find a MC at the local SPCA. He had been returned twice and was a bit of a basket case but he has blossomed into a happy handsome boy. We live in an old house and have always had a mouse problem. He has taken care of that gladly and hunts the basement and backyard whenever given the chance. Oddly he stays in the back yard and never strays. He is black and 16lbs and truly a joy for us. He is a mamas boy and will come and get her if he is feeling ignored. Yeah, a true puppy cat. And such a sweet animal. Love that tail and its always straight up. The girls at the SPCA thought he was unadoptable because he was black and VERY shy. I sat with him with my hand in the cage until he came out and sniffed it. The girls were so surprised. He had never done that. Needless to say he is a happy boy and has a huge territory. Such a sweetie and a real gentleman. N EVER demands, only asks and the trills are absolutely delightful.

I got Morgan the year they closed the register. Since she had all the characteristics of the standard, i could have submitted her to be included but had no interest in breeding. She was an Iowa farm cat and the most beautiful cat i ever saw, nothing exaggerated. She was the smartest, most dignified, most deeply loyal, most talkative, most interesting kitty. she was telepathic. She could count. I proved ALL of this during her life of over 20 years. I have had 14 kitties and i have loved them all incredibly, but none like her. When she crossed the bridge i commissioned her portrait and it stands guard over my family room to this day. She changed my life.❤

Very correct with many of these traits my oldest buddy Ceasar it is debated if he was a Maincoon or Norwegian Forest cat but he was a big guy for sure loved to play with everyone even the family dog Riley, always wanted to be by my side as I was his best buddy. Ceasar definitely liked to have adventures even towards the end of his life he still wanted to hop a neighbor's fence and explore the backyard and sneak into the garage and explore the boxes, tools, and all the nooks and crannies. While I never had kids Ceasar had two little brother Siberian brother that he loved. And yes the lovr water of water is correct as he loved to play in water and would always hop into the tub abd a shower or bath and lick up the remaining water. While Ceasar and Riley are no longer with us they were most definitely the best companions and buddies anyone could have.

Our Zoe is almost 11 now and a slim, cough, cough, 28lbs down from 32lbs. When we adopted her from a young woman at 6 months old she was this little skinny grey tiger cat. Or so we thought. The girl was only feeding &r 1/4 cup dry food a day. We've had cats our whole lives and always had at will eating. We did notice her paws were abnormally big for her size. My daughter who had 2 male Maine Coon cats suspected she might be part MC. But as she grew, and grew and grew it was evident she was a MC. Our vet and her staff fell in love and Zoe is the Princess at the vets. She still acts like a kitten. Not as often but it's there. We rescue and rehab feral cats and when kittens arrive as some of our rescues are pregnant ferals, Zoe automatically becomes Gramma along with her Snowshoe (also a rescue) sister. The kittens alwaysove these two and learn manners and respect from the old gals.

I had one when I met my ex-wife. It was months before he tolerated her petting him and he never go in there lap. He was a typical Maine COon but slow to warm up to people. When I moved back to St Louis I took him for his first visit to the vet and had to leave him for the day for job interviews. When I came to get him they were raving about how sweet yhe was. You have the wrong cat he doesn't warm up to anybody quickly. They were talking about him and all the techs and vets had to meet or see him whenever I brought him in. He never got around to like my ex-wife while my Norwegian Forest Cat would spray my ex-wife when she went into heat and walked away when she realized my ex was petting her. Zippy had the most beautiful gold eye color and the vets said it was a very rare color.

I tossed a rabbit’s paw key chain in the bathtub. He was my cat for the longest time. One strange thing that he did was flossing his gums on a magazine or a comic book. Maine Coon Cats are direct descendents of Norwegian Forest cats .Studies of their genome leave no doubt of this fact anymore. Maine Coon cats are really diluted Norwegians crossed with several American domestic breeds. The DNA doesn't lie. All of the Maine Coon characteristics described in this video can be applied to Norwegian Forest cats without exception. I had a 20 lb Maine Coon Tom cat for 16 years and I now have a 5 year old Norwegian Forest Tom cat who just reached the same weight. From their friendly and gentle demeanor and intelligence, to their fascination with water and size, build, coat, sociability and slowness to mature, they are similar in more ways than they are different. I can attest to that.

I bought my Maine Coon (Lucy) from a breeder when she was 10 months old. She is registered and I have the papers for her. She is such a beautiful girl. I feel she was not handled much as a kitten because she does not like to be held nor is she a lap cat plus she will hide when anyone comes to visit. .She always wants to be close by and will sit close to me. They are very smart. I bought a treat puzzle and she figured that out right away. She has figured out how to open cupboards. She is not fussy as she will eat anything and they are big eaters. I also have a ragdoll who is 1 year older than Lucy. They tolerate each other but they have not bonded. It has been almost a year. Lucy will not let my ragdoll on our bed. This is her territory. She will chase Sadie (my ragdoll) away. Lucy plays very aggressively compared to my Ragdoll. Lucy comes to bed with us every night. She likes to lay on our feet or legs. Sometimes I wonder if she will cut off my blood circulation, she is that heavy. lol She even lets me know when it is time to wake up. She will gently put her paw on my face. The only regret I have is that I should have gotten her as a tiny kitten. We also have a Newfoundland dog. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is now 7 months old. Although he does not bother the cats, they will keep their distance from him. Lucy does want a lot of attention and she will let you know when she wants something. I am very attached to her as she is a very unique cat. I have had many cats in my life (purebreds) but the Maine Coon is truly one of a kind.

They have long hair except on their front shoulders. #20 would be their attachment to their human(s). Being a social animal it’s not recommended to leave them alone for extended periods & they have another four legged friend to chase, cuddle & “wrastle” with.
