15 Ways Maine Coons Act Like Dogs

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

We hope you all have a great Easter weekend! I decided to make this video today where I talk about ways our Maine Coons act like dogs. We often get asked how our Maine Coons act like dogs, or if they do so that's what inspired me to make this video.

We have a 12 year old female Maine Coon. When someone rings our doorbell she immediately growls just like a dog. When the kids were younger she would sleep at the foot of their beds as a `guard ` cat. A beautiful , loving cat great around kids.

I’m glad I saw your comment. I’ve got a tabby that visits me most days. Lovely little guy. He also growls when someone is at the door. I didn’t know cats could do this.

We don't have Maine Coons but our cats greet us at the door, too. It's a big stress reliever after work to see their cute faces happy to see us. Hope you have a Happy Easter and I'm sure the cats will get plenty of treats. Molly was being so cute in this video and the tongue sticking out was so funny.

Molly is so beautiful.! My Maine Coon Maddy was so much like what you described. Maddy was playful his whole life. When he was hanging out or sleeping he oftentimes was on his back with his legs splayed out. He was extremely funny, as in he had a sense of humor. He would play fetch with his favorite little ball for as long as I would throw it. He kind of got lazy about bringing it back to me all the way when he was older, but he always put it safetly away in his water bowl when we finished. Then he could play with his water and ball. I laughed seeing your Coonies following you guys around. Maddy did the same thing. Thanks for your sweet video... it made my heart swell. 💜🐾

Based on how our two Maine Coons behave I'd say a lot of these are accurate. Ours greet us at the door (at least when they can be bothered to get up from their nap) and can be very vocal when they want attention. They are also very loyal, but ours seem to have little fear of strangers. If someone unfamiliar comes into the house Tiffany (our younger brown tabby Coon) will greet them and possibly even supervise them in whatever they are doing, while the other cats in the house will generally run off and hide.

All True. 😜💕. I had mine when she was six month old and she was a very affectionate cat. She loved sleeping with me and when I got up, she loved when I would take her in my arms and rocking her and being petted when she ate. She would take her big paws and reach my hands when I would pulled it to either smell or eat my food. She would also smelled my mouth and my nose to smelled what I ate and yes loved playing with water and I drink soy Milk and wanted to drink it out of my glass but not out of a small bowl and would play with her feeding bowls. So funny. She was very playfull even at 13. Miss her. She weight about 12 to 15 pounds and had a very fluffy fur😜She also was my first Main Coon and it was a good expérience.

Oh man, your cats love human food? Haha, ours don't... Except for Olive when we've got bacon or ham. She will bite our hands off for those, lol! I have to say too, that I've always thought she has some MC in her, and this video pretty much confirms this. Not only does she have the ear tufts and extra toes (a common MC trait), but her behaviour is very much like what you describe. The older she gets, the chattier she gets, too.

I can't believe I found your channel I have been watching your videos. I had a cat that looked like your molly, Mine was also named molly. So beautiful!! My girl was exactly as you say. I used to say, my Molly was like a dog. I thought Molly was part maine Coon, and I am sure now she was. I had my girl for 14 years, and she was probably 2 when we found her outside. She was amazing and passed away this past Feb. Very devastated. She met me at the door every day and started acting sick the last few months, and she was still at the door. She had several problems, I don't know what really happened. she loved chin pets, she was my best bud. I cry when I see your molly. Thanks for sharing.

Our male Buddy will come when he is called. He is supposedly a cross but he looks like a purebred and sits patiently in front of the kitchen counter and waits for us to feed him. He LOVES to hunt. We live in an old house and used to have a mouse problem. He was returned to the shelter twice and was fragile when we got him but he has blossomed in the last couple of years. He will come and get one of us when he wants to be groomed. He loves the spike brush and gets so excited. Love the trills and quiet meows. He is such a gentleman. He has become a mommas boy and follows my wife around. She is currently napping and he is curled up in her computer chair a few feet from her. He has become such an adorable kitty and we can let him out in the backyard and he will stay there. Certainly NOT cat behavior. He is such a wonderful cat to say the least. We are smitten.

Our dog is starting to pick up cat habits and likes the cat tree and sitting in the window with the cats! I don’t think that they realize they are different sometimes because they pounce on each other sometimes! And play chase too! At 3 Am! All of them! 2 cats and 2 dogs! We have 1 Maine Coon, 1 domestic cat and 2 dogs smaller ones.

Couple of things: 1. Thanks for the upload. I was concerned I have not seen a video in a while. I was going to send DCFS (Dept. of Cat and Family Services) out for a well being check. 2. Yes Maine Coons wait by the door. If I see them I know the house is safe. If they are not there my guard goes up. I ask my myself why are they hiding. That's a negative. 3. I think my cat eats batteries for breakfast. She never gets tired of playing. Still going. All 4 battery operated toys must be going at all times (like a circus) Or she meows to me having a meltdown. 4. You have absolutely gorgeous cats.

with some patience and snacks i managed to establish a grooming routine. just getting out the comb and the soft brush is enough to get her on the grooming table. She sets the limits and i'm not pushing boundaries but it just works. oh yes, at 2+ years she's still going crazy when chasing toys or 'catching prey'.

My Lightfoot (DSH) does a lot of the same things your Maine Coons do. He plays in water, goes crazy when its feeding time, crawls in the refrigerator checking for plastic bags or leftover, gets into mischief when he wants attention, likes to play and drags his laser wand around like a captured prey. He follows around the apartment. He doesn't talk too much, mostly when he's hungry, does the "kitty 500" any time in the early morning (midnight to 3 or 4 am), He's fairly friendly toward adults, growls and hisses at kids and dogs, cats, guinea pigs and fish don't interest him. He'll turn 3 in July.

My Archimedes, my little Archie (little being generous...he is huge), he meows and chirps any time I'm on the other side of a door he can't see through...and he can open doors. Which means I have to either exit a door I don't want him to enter really quickly or tape up the handle so he can't open it when I leave. If I don't, he finds his way through the handle, opens it, and finds me or whatever is in the room, and gives those big eyes and a huge chirp, "Meowoow?!" and then I'm just melting because he's just that cute. So, even when I usher him out of wherever, even effectively, he just takes two steps, turns around, looks up with those innocent eyes and that innocent meow. And I just melt again. Then he goes about his business, and I'm left wondering "what just happened?!" Feeding time is based upon Beethoven's 5th (we have five cats, but only one Maine Coon...a point he seems to relish at times) ...."Food food food fooooood.... food food food fooooooooood!" He comes running (along with the others, two ragdolls, Nibbles and Parsley, a norwegian forest, Sashimi, and a tiny little black longhair, the matriarch of the bunch whom we call Bucket...we initially called her Sambuca, but she spent the first several hours of her life in our home licking my shaved head, so we appropriately called her a "love bucket"), and nuzzles my hands and arms as I try to put the food in the bowl. Then, after he has eaten, he jumps into bed, crawls onto my chest, kneads very vigorously for several minutes (his paws are literally half the size of my hands...and both of them are just pounding as hard as he can, claws and paws, and all you hope for is that you have enough blanket between you and him so it doesn't hurt that much), flops onto me, and gradually slips onto my right side, so I can pet his tummy, that humongous pooch, of course, his hind legs at my knees, and his head at my chin (I'm over 6'1" so...yeah, he's seriously MASSIVELY long). Then he throws his arms over my chest, his head onto my chin, starts to really purr, and chirps again while sniffing at my chin and especially my hairline (not sure why, it's just his thing)...then gradually settles at my side, always waiting for me to pet him some more. So I always grab his pooch and chest, switching between the two, vigorously squeezing them as he prefers, just givin the lovins, (my wife has always said she can't squeeze as hard as Archie likes it, and that's why he is my best buddy...I still think he loves her bunches too)...then he curls up tight, half the length he was a second ago, like a tiny kitten, and grabs my hand with both paws, makes a funny sound, "Ermmm" and proceeds to fall asleep. He's a dog in a cat suit. A kitten with a canine personality. He's the closest thing to perfection I've ever met. And he's my best friend.

I'm her aunt some times he would sleep with me and about an hour I would hear a loud snoring 😴 sound like a man.he passed away from a eye infection, but is buried not far from our house. now she has a Black and white male Maine and asked like a dog 🐶, rolls over, plays with tiny balls and brings it to you. knocks over the water bowl when he doesn't get his way and fights with my niece's female tabby when he doesn't have anything to do. he's a bully 🐶🐱🤪.

He does every one of those things except I didn’t train him for the leash early enough And he will let me rub his tell me if he’s really sleepy and relaxed otherwise he thinks I’m trying to play with him and he will send me with his backseat and try to bite my hand. But otherwise everything is the same

I often quip that my Greg is a dog trapped in a cat’s body. He just turned 7, as did his buddy, Atticus.

My dog and cat like to smell my breath when I come home to see what I ate. If I don't bring them back some stuff I ate I get punished for being a bad dad.

Were they all cuddly as kittens? Ours is 15 months and has never been cuddly even though he loves me and follows me everywhere

No. Their personalities definitely change a lot as they grow and they go through phases!

I have one too, she is 1 year old now, She loves my attention, but she is not cuddly, she won't sit or sleep on my lap. But she is always near me, follows me around the house all the time, or sits besides me, always close by

My vet also put down my Maine Coon as a generic cat. Listed him as brown & calico. That really upsets me because he is a Maine Coon. They are different from other cats. I keep telling her that my "Rafters" is a Maine Coon! Why do vets insist that these cats are just like the others. My baby is totally different than my other 2 house furbabies. All 3 live inside. I raised my Rafters from a baby. His mother gave birth in the rafters (hence is name).

So, do Maine Coons destroy the sofas?

Ours don’t! Ours don’t like scratching leather. Just provide lots of other cat things for them to scratch instead. We have a video about this on our KZread channel if you’re interested.

I've neverhad a Maine coon but every cat I've ever had has acted like this. It has to do with the cat not the breed Maybe dogs are like cats!!
