I do not care if my boy is pure bred or not. He is pure sweetness and is my emotional support cat.

I too have a mix and he is my support empathic love. If I cry he gets on me and reaches his paws up to my face to comfort and love me.

I have two beautiful boys who have main coon so where back in their bloodline and they are all the things and they are amazing. And I agree with ginger girl in all she says 😍🐱😍🐱😍

We were fortunate to get a Maine Coon male from the SPCA. Locally they sell for around $2500 and the SPCA cost us $200. He looks totally MC but is missing the mane. Still, he weighs in at 16lbs but is soooooo smart and such a gentleman. Never demands but politely asks. My wife and I have been together for 50yrs and have had many cats. This one is by far the sweetest and smartest of all of them. He communicates very well what he wants and generates the sweetest trills. He is such a delight and has put a serious dent in the mouse population. He has the full tail and fluffy as well as the long layered long silky coat. He will ask us to brush him and will even choose which of the several brushes he wants us to use. He is family and fits right in.

I couldn't care less what my cat's breed is. I love him as he is.

Pure bread means more vet bills. Better to get a mix bread, which gives a variety in the DNA, and hybrid vigor.

We rescued a 6mo old last week. She was malnourished and ratty looking but is already improving. We're excited to watch her grow.

My Maine Coon mixed cat has extra digits on her front paws and hates getting wet. I think she's part Siamese. I often try to give her a trim of her claws like I do with my chihuahuas.

Some of the pictures are of the closely related Norwegian Forest Cat. THEY are the ones with the straight profiles and triangular heads; Maine Coons tend to have square muzzles. They also take about 5-6 years to mature.

Big difference between "not purebred" and "off standard". There are plenty of examples of purebred animals that are far off the breed standard but still are pedigreed--my registered black smoke Turkish Angora looked totally different from the one who was 3rd best of breed that year but both of them were totally beautiful in their own way.

I think our bonus kitty is a mix. We'll see. 😅

I have 2 brothers. Both polydactyl but, one has 7 toes on one foot and 6 on the other. Brother has 6 and 6.

Haha I fostered 6 Maine coon kittens, 4 of them found forever homes and 2 were my boys. Never knew the mommy or daddy, determined what they were after like 5 years...just thought it was normal for schmuckatelly animals to be huge!

My Ophelia is pure breed, but she doesn't like water. Maybe because her name is Ophelia😂

When adopting a kitten, you won't see many of the features mentioned. More important to work with a reputable breeder, who will provide all the necessary information. Some breeders will only sell kittens to homes they are satisfied will provide the environment needed.

I wish there had been more detailed information: not sure what was meant by a straight or flat nose?

Our 2 cats have 8 out of 10 traits. The vet says they're domestic longhairs. What ever they are, they're bad to the bone....

@@thegraphicdesignstudent they’re still big cats my black one is a 20 pound cat who’s nose touches my upper chest and tails down at my knees when he’s stretched to his full length Loki took after mama cat and is a little smaller but still about 15 pounds

Just wondering, why does genetic testing involve a thermometer up the arse? Also, I'm sure lots of people end up here while trying to work out how to tell the difference in kittens they're going to purchase, not older cats they've had for years, love intensely and just don't care.
