[TIME STAMPS FOR BASS LINES]
Bass Line 1 - 0:57
Bass Line 2 - 4:24
Bass Line 3 - 5:42
Bass Line 4 - 7:41
Bass Line 5 - 10:53
This lesson, you’re going to get 5 MORE beginner bass lines that are guaranteed to impress. They’re the kind of bass lines that you can play when someone asks you the dreaded:
‘Play something for me’
Instead of playing a great song with a less than memorable bass line, you can use any of these 5 beginner bass lines to instantly get people hooked and excited about your playing.
They’re catchy, and more importantly, they’re recognizable, and when your friends, family or complete strangers recognize something that you play for them, they’re instantly hooked.
The lines may be simple, but to someone who doesn’t know a thing about how to play music, they hear something they know, and their opinion of your playing skyrockets - almost immediately.
That’s the power of these 5 (more) beginner bass lines.
Good luck with the lesson and happy playing!
Cheers,
Luke
P.S. There were a few resources I mentioned in the video. Go here for the Super Loop of Feel Good Inc. in standard tuning:

And here’s the Green Day track, but in standard tuning so you can play along with it:

    Hi Luke. I first bought a white Vox Clubman II in 1968 and it cost me $48 second hand. No amp, so I twisted wires together and connected it to the tone arm on an old Kriesler radiogram. It worked ok. But I made no progress, girls, cars and work got in the way and of course no money. I am 70 years old this year and with my new Yamaha bass and your videos I am making good progress despite bad arthritis, short fingers and cataracts. Being an old fart the challenge of reading music, learning keys, modes and bass techniques and appreciating the technicalities of modern music is keeping my brain active and improving my coordination. I thought of forming a band next year called "The Wrinkles" or maybe "The Dentures" , but two of my mates are having trouble with their hearing aids and the drummer hasn't got room in his Suzuki for his kit and the wheelchair lol. Luke, your lessons are clear, appropriate, and inspirational and as a former educator myself I consider you an excellent music teacher. I needed lessons like this in 1969. Thank you. Geoff. Adelaide.

    Hey Geoff. I'm so glad you're finding the lessons helpful and I love your attitude. You're not letting any of those things like arthritis or short fingers get in the way of playing. I absolutely love that! I'd love for you to actually follow through and start a band. If you ever make it up North to Queensland, I'll definitely come to a show! Haha! Seriously though - I really appreciate the kind words Geoff. Thanks so much.

    Thanks for this. I learnt the five from your first video and now I'll try to get these nailed down. Do you have any advice on left-hand technique for Billie Jean, especially the harder version? You seem to be hardly moving your first finger, laying it across the strings as if you were playing a barre chord, but it's really hard to keep up the pressure with it and still have the necessary freedom of movement in the other fingers. Are you lifting off more than we can see when it's not actually being used?

  • @BecomeABassist

    @BecomeABassist

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you like it @Richard Poole, and good question. I guess I'm *sort of* barring with my first finger, but not the way a guitarist might if they're doing a bar chord. I'm not fretting/pressing down more than one note at a time with that finger. When the low F# is being played, I'm not pressing with the 'back' part of that finger, and when I'm playing the E on the D-string, I'm not fretting the low E-string. The 'pressure point' (or whatever you'd call it) is constantly going back and forth depending on which string needs it at the time. I think if I was barring the whole time, I'd run out of stamina super quickly. It IS kind of a subtle movement though - I'm always trying to move my fingers as little as possible to conserve energy and maximize the stamina I do have.

For example if I watch John Paul Jones play, he's not restricted to 6 notes in a scale, I hope this makes sense but I don't know how best to explain it.

When plucking A,D,and G strings it seems as though his thumb is always on the E. Is this because that's what is comfortable for him or is it to keep the E string from vibrating? Or both? Or neither?

  • @BecomeABassist

    @BecomeABassist

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Ian Stone - great question. It's a little of both. It's super comfortable for me to place my thumb on the E-string when I'm playing the other strings, but it *also* has the added benefit of stopping any latent E-string vibrations.

    How close the the frets are you playing Allan? Most of the time, the 'best' place to put your fingers when playing a note is right next to it (but not quite on top of it). If you're right in the middle between 2 frets, you need to use more strength and pressure with your fingers, which can lead to the buzzing I think you're talking about. Try moving to be super close to the frets - it might help!
