This is the clearest, most concise and enjoyable bass tutorial I have ever watched. Most bassists don't seem to understand the simple fact that guitar players, in particular, don't see the fret board the same way. Thanks, Steve!

As a piano player since childhood (for leisure), having now just started trying to learn to play bass I knew the chord/triads music theory, even the chord progressions (which surprised me, since it has been YEARS since I actively studied this stuff!) - this video was super-helpful in transitioning that understanding to the bass fretboard, as well as being a useful reminder of the basics of music theory. This is the best base guitar teacher I have ever seen or heard. He simplifies it so well that anyone will learn from him lessons. I played bass guitar for over 10 years in live bands, and I have taught a few friends, but I could never explain it so well.
Total beginner here... picked up a Bass guitar for the first time one week ago. Been watching multiple videos with different approaches. Although it would be great to pick up an instrument and start playing songs, i'm the type, in everything i do, that i need to know the 'why' behind it all. Your video did just that for me! It makes sense now! Thanks!! You just got a new subscriber!!

Yes, the "why" is important. Glad you caught that. There's a value to learning how to play songs, but if that's all somebody does they're just playing somebody elses notes and missing out on the bigger picture.

I grew up with violing, cello, then bass, playing classic or Orchestra music, so by the time I got into jazz & rock music, all I knew was basic note-playing, and improvisation or solos were never done, until I tried out for the 'famous' Ohio U. Jazz band. I quit music to concentrate on my double-major, but I still have my guitars.
I've been playing for 30 years and I never had training. I knew about which notes were which, but you opened my eyes with the other stuff. I finally understand what I've been missing all these years, Thank you very much and subscribed. No one explains it as well as you do.

Thanks Urma. Keep rockin'!
Thank you Mr. Steve. I started out on bass in the 70s and only played by ear. I’m coming out of retirement and this class was so perfectly explained that my INTP personality with ADHD and OCD understood and stayed throughout your whole explanation. I’m a new fan.

You're welcome Michael. Glad to hear you stuck around for the whole video.
This lesson was so well done because Steve explained everything step by step!
Best bass lesson I’ve watched and it transfers right to guitar as well. Your way underrated my man.

Glad to hear you dug the lesson.
This is a great lesson. I’m a beginner ….left handed with a left handed bass. Nice and slow and clear so we left handers can transpose in a follow along manner. Mel Bay has a left handed Bass Chord picture book that is a great tool as an compliment to this lesson. Thanks for this sharing Steve.

Just realised that I have it already but thanks anyway 👍
The best and easy way of teaching one to understand basics on how to play bass guitar. I used to play keyboard now with this kind of demonstration I can find it easy to play bass guitar. Thenk you so much.

This was very helpful. The graphs with the numbers and colors made it easy to conceptualize the triads and the order of notes

Thank you for offering a very comprehensible lesson 🤘
A great foundation to learning some theory. Been playing forever but never took the plunge into theory and the lack thereof is like a ball and chain. This will help get me started. Thanks, brother!
