    I'm with Bill Layton. I discovered you (Steve) last night and came back first thing in the morning for more. (After coffee of course) What I just learned in your first 3 videos has taken other people I know months to learn. You are absolutely a great teacher. Your lessons have forced me to learn the location of all (most) of the notes. Much mahalo from Maui!

    Steve, thank you, thank you so much for teaching me a lot with this video. No one, not a single soul on youtube have done a lesson like this, and i mean with the drawing behing, explaining everything, everyone makes beginner lessons thinking everyone knows all the notes, but if im a beginner and if im learning on youtube (which means im self taught right?) how the hell im gonna know all the notes! So thank you very much!

Just what I needed since I have a lot of music knowledge but wasn’t sure how to apply it to the bass guitar. My one concern is my short finger vs. the wide bass frets. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in such a direct and simple way.❤❤

You can also look into a short scale bass. In the meantime, here's an exercise for stretching the fingers: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaiLz9CHpq28eJc.html

    I got a short scale bass and found it so much easier to play than long scale. I too have smaller hands. there are some good short scale basses out there for about 200-300 dollars. I got the Gretsch G2220. If you haven't ever tried a short scale I recommend it because you will be surprised how much easier they are to play. and of course using Steve's stretching vids.

    Hiya Steve Hope you're well fella. Just wanted you to know that I have spent hours and hours on this exercise as when I dabbled with bass when I was younger the one thing I wanted to play was a walking bassline. I sketch your diagrams on my sketch pad and for days I couldn't co-ordinate my fretting fingers and kept on hitting the wrong string. I am now starting to get it sounding like a bassline. I am still not quite ready to follow you... even on your slowest BPM but I am getting the muscle memory and when it becomes more instinctive I look forward to playing along with your backing rhythms . I am beginning to play some chords without really looking... just feeling them...this was something I didn't think possible. It just shows how doing the basics correctly and practicing daily will get results. When I tried to play along with you I was flapping like mad and said to myself..'chill winston'...you ain't ready yet 😂 I love the way you put the sharps in and they did definitely add that flavour...it was thrilling to play ! Many thanks for your inspiration Steve 👍 Have a good day Mike

    That's awesome Mike! Walking is a lot of fun. Yeah, the key to getting it right is just slowing it down and repetition. Hello @stevekonbass, although I am new to Bass and Music Theory, I can see the value of your lessons which obviously prepare us physically and theoretically to achieve better results for more advanced stuff and makes it much easier to learn easier stuff. Thank you for that. I have a question though... In the 12 Bar Blues in Gmajor the last bar should be a G. How can we see it in your lesson that it starts with a D? Is it that we are walking through the Gmajor scale and adding some extra notes or can the last bar be substituted with the 5th in some cases (breaking the "rule")? Thanks a lot in advance. :)

  • @stevekonbass

    @stevekonbass

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad to hear you like the lessons. Most of the time when playing a 12 bar blues, the 5 is the last chord (measure 12), which sets up the turnaround to go back to the 1. There's no rule that says the 1 can't be the last bar like you suggest, but in most cases the last bar is the 5.

  • @stevekonbass

    3 ай бұрын

    Well... this was done in the key of G major, so for instance, you can move up the key to A major and move everything we played up a whole step and it would work. Let's just play a walking bass line over a G major chord... G middle, B index, D pinky, E index, G pinky, E index, D pinky, B index, G middle.... now let's play the same walking line but over a C major chord... C middle, E index, G pinky, A index, C pinky, A index, G pinky, E index, C middle. It's the same finger patter. Make sense?
