I watched this video last night and already forgot what the 5 habits were so I'm back to rewatch and make a note for myself. 1. Enjoy the journey - we spend more time climbing up during the hike than we do enjoying the view at the top so why not enjoy the entire journey. 2. Mind your response in situations, it is the only thing you can control to influence the outcome of things. - perception determines how we feel 3. Swap out words with negative meanings to words with positive meanings. The words you use can influence how you feel. We tend to vent about our frustrations and use negative words in the process. Then when we are alone, those same word choices are made, the effect can compound. Get in the habit of expressing things with more positivity, gratitude, hope, excitement, etc. 4. Comparison is the thief of joy. Comparison seems to be a natural human response so don't feel bad about doing it, just be mindful of it. Remember that we know 100% of our own lives, all the good and all the bad but we only see what other people want us to see about theirs. 5. Tend to your emotional wounds as much as you would a physical wound.

When my mother was alive, I would stay with her two evenings a week while the sibling who lived with her worked. If a friend asked if I'd like to go out on one of those evenings, my response would be, "I have to watch my mother." I am beyond grateful that I finally caught on to how I was phrasing my answer, and changed it to, "I get to spend time with my mom that evening." I loved her, and I was talking as though spending time with her was a burden. She died a couple of years ago and I long for the times when I was able to spend time with her.

Idk... that mindset seems kinda toxic to me. Sure, not everything is black or white. But things like war, hunger, rape, etc.? These are entirely bad things, no matter how much you try to think otherwise. Is that really what you want to say to people who experienced such things, to simply change their perspective on things? That's BS.

@@KateViko Thanks, I’m not at the moment. My issue is with the concept-for example, do you think that Jews in concentration camps should just have changed their perspective and then everything would have been fine? I’m not trying to argue with you per se, but I believe this is a pernicious attitude in western culture. I admit I haven’t read it yet, but Barbara Ehrenrich’s book, Bright-Sided, apparently explores this subject quite a bit.

Hello, I just wanted to add to this great advice. I replace it with, “I can”. Little tip from my therapist; saying, “I can” instead of “have to”, “need to”, “should” helps empower you. My mother is abusive and made me feel incapable of things so I struggle with that. Saying I can do something makes me sound capable of doing it and more likely to do things and feel good about it. It also helps with low motivation. The more you do the more capable you feel and therefore the more capable and confident you become. Thank you for sharing your tips!

We usually get emotionally involved in every aspect of our life.. but unlike our physical well-being, we kind of ignore the signs of our state of mind.. we aren't aware of how to take care of our emotional hygiene.. Thank you for this.. listening to your words make me feel better.. sending you lots of love.. 💜

Thank you so much for talking about how we are often too focused on the destination. I am reminded now to reflect on my journeys in the past and be proud of where I am now. Today we are often so focused on these fleeting moments of success and then those moments go away. I forget that my past self would be thrilled to see where I am now!!!

Thank you for doing those kinds of videos. I've been having a hard time and I decided to do a spring cleaning of my mind this year, not just a spring cleaning of my apartment. I've been making a list of daily things I can do to take care of my mind and body, and ways to add more daily joy in my life. I appreciate this video!

I usual put your videos while I'm cooking or doing some house work like a podcast cause I find your voice really soothing. And as I was today, I zoned out for a bit *comparing myself to a colleague at work* when I hear you say to stop comparing ourselves to people... I simply smiled. Thank you for making anxiety look so serene and mental hygiene feel so attainable. Sending you love from Morocco. ❤ I'd love to start creating content for moroccan people inspired by you, I'll just have to build up the courage for that.

I finished this semester with two term papers and a very important application. It felt utterly amazing being done with it. But then I asked myself: what now? The 99% of getting to this short moment of joy were stressful and only filled with the thought "I have to get this done." Thank you for those wonderful messages :) Pick Up Limes has never been a recipe bank for me only, but a comforting place to both calm down and challenge my views. You're the best!

I'm so glad I found your video just now. I've been looking to make changes in my life and as I'm working towards those changes I'm also feeling so much anxiety, fear, and doubt. I even wondered if I should just stay put where I'm at even though it's been making me so sad and frustrated. But your video has helped me realized that I am doing the right thing for myself and I just need to continue with my journey and not be afraid. Thank you ❤
