4.5K Canon EOS M RAW Video | Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 20mm 2.8 & 50mm 1.4 MC | Hirtenberg

4.5K Canon EOS M RAW Video | Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 20mm 1:2.8 MC (brother of the Flektogon M42 version) & Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 50mm 1.4 MC | Hirtenberg Elgersburg
This video was filmed in Elgersburg (Thuringia, Germany).
I got some more vintage lenses for testing with my Canon EOS M:
Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 20mm 2.8 MC
Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 50mm 1.4 MC (first version with thorium coating)
All clips were recorded with the 5K anamorphic rewire mode, which the Canon EOS M Magic Lantern build from Danne offers. The clips were recorded at 1464x1870 (unsqeezed 4392x1870), but for youtube I downscaled to 4K (3840x1634). All 50mm clips were recorded with open aperture (f/1.4), the 20mm clips were recorded between f/2.8 (soft edges) and f/5.6 (for better edge sharpness). The clips were processed in MLVApp v1.10 only.
Gear used:
Canon EOS M
Viltrox Speedbooster
Berlin Optix PB-EOS Praktica B
Variable ND filter & Haida ND64 filter
Tripod and self build video slider

    lovely colors and "the analog" look and feel. All in all really great but personally i preffer much sharper 2.5k or 2.8k mode . it is much much sharper and works flawlessly - try it!

    Thank you. The 2.xK modes are only digitally sharper. Optically the anamorphic modes are superior and sharper, because you don't zoom into the area, where the (vintage) lenses get less sharp. Additionally you get a better bokeh with anamorphic modes, which gets lost with crop modes. This brings the cinematic feeling. IMO, the crop modes look more like mobilephone video... That are the reasons why I don't use those modes much. :)

    Where did you buy the Canon EF adapter for the lenses? And do they focus to infinity? Thank you

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    2 жыл бұрын

    I bought the BerlinOptix PB-to-EF adapter. Unfortunately this adapter is discontinued. It is able to focus to infinity (because it is very thin), instead of many adapters from other manufacturers.

    Awesome !! I just found out about the whole eos m community. It's so amazing.May i ask what kind of sd card you are using to be able to handle 4.5k raw video?

    Thank you. Yes, the M is amazing and it is a lot of fun to use it! I use a SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB 95MB/s (UHS-I). Works like a charm.

    Thanks, i suppose you have to use the sd uhs card hack right? Are you able to get continuous recording out or it?

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    @@cheapfm Yes, the sd uhs hack is always automatically included and loaded in Danne's latest builds. So just install, switch camera on, select preset, and record ;-) Danne did a great job!

    The 20 mm Flektogon seems to flare a lot. What do you think about this lens in general ?

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you "must love" the flares, if you want to get happy with that lens. I love it: it is always very sharp in the center. It becomes sharp > f/5.6 in the corners. The build quality is awesome. The lens has a very strong field curvature, so at infinity borders will never be sharp, if the center is sharp (even at f/22). It is my mostly used lens on my EOSM+Speedbooster.

    What's the maximum recording time shooting on 4.5k mode?

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    It depends on the SD card. You record around 55MB/s with that mode.

    really great rendition . What about the framing in this mode ?

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! What do you mean with framing? The liveview while recording? You get the slow B/W preview while recording, but it is good enough to realize a focus sweep at f/1.4 (as you can see in the scene with the red leaves).

  • @MaSc

    @MaSc

    @@atjeremy Yes, I also love the CZJ 20mm - I mostly have it on my EOSM. I don't think it is expensive for what you get. I got mine for 180€. There is another CZJ, the 35mm 2.4, which is also great and much cheaper. Therefor it isn't so wide, so not so versatile for the EOSM, but with better bokeh.
