It’s worth noting that these 3 films didn’t or haven’t yet secured theatrical releases across the globe. In the U.K. they were (and will be) sent straight to Amazon Prime Video as ‘Amazon Originals’. So, that’s going to hurt their box office potential for sure. If they did all secure theatrical releases, perhaps it’d be a different story?

I and my husband just saw Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. We loved the movie and are planning to go back and see it again. I do think that it is a lot on marketing and distribution. First, Amazon has killed it's boxoffice $$ by not putting it in theaters in the UK and Canada where it would make a boatload of money. Secondly, we are older and the only way I heard about it was on an MSNBC interview with Guy Ritchie on Morning Joe. They need to advertise it as based on a true story of the Natzi vs. the Allies that rivals all the adventure and special effects of Indiana Jones, especially the Lost Crusade. It is fun and you need to attract younger audiences as well as us history buffs whose grandparents or parents lived through World War II. Of course the two movies that pre-viewed MUW, a sci-fi and a horror film that will probably make big bucks...Gag me.

But I am trying to make a habbit of hitting the theaters on those discount Tuesdays after work. Some theaters have special prices on Tuesdays. I spent $17.50 total but that was because of the popcorn and drink. Dolby is pretty standard ... I could careless about Imax and 3D is a worn out gimmick.

@@ronpetersen2317 Let’s look at what you said. You wanna go on special priced days or matinee. Most people aren’t money savvy or don’t have the time but also take into account schedule differences or work. So naturally they wanna go see it at night or during the weekend. This eliminates people like yourself who are choosing to go see it during a lower priced time. I mean even then you spent basically $20 to go watch a movie on a lower priced day. Thats a steep cost for one person. Imagine a family of four or even just a couple. The whole extras may not appeal to you but I think they are what appeal to masses when going to watch a film in theaters nowadays. You can watch regular movies at home, but you can’t have a 3D or IMAX experience there.

Not been able to watch any of these in the cinema in the UK... all gone to Amazon. So £0 box office return from UK viewers. Maybe another reason the 'flop' tag is thrown at them. Wonder how much Amazon has payed behind the scenes for them???

The movie industry is dying. The box office is very poor this year. The biggest hit so far Dune 2 and whether that's actually made any profit... who knows. Deadpool 3 and Joker 2 may make 900 Mill ww or more but my guess is 90 percent of films are not going to make any profit or struggle to break even. Cinema is dying.

Guy Ritchie needs to go the M. Night Shymalan route to kick start his career. M Night after a series of flops went the low budget route and that reinvigorated interest in his career and took pressure off for these big box office numbers. He is making decent to good movies these days on small budgets.
