    Why put Cavill and Dua Lipa front and centre of the poster if they’re barely in the movie? Maybe that bait and switch is one of the reasons why people have stayed away. Also MV has said that the movie didn’t cost $200m to make, that’s just what he sold it to Apple for.

    Flowers of the Moon (or whatever it is called)flopped because movies with a planet name in the title usually don't do well at the box office.Remember John Carter of Mars?Of course not since they named it only John Carter because they were afraid that the word Mars would keep people away.

    Don't get why you keep calling it a Henry Cavill movie, it stars Rockwell & what's her name the Jurassic Park woman. As you said Cavill is in it for 7 minutes so it's not on him

  • @RicoRaynn
    @RicoRaynn3 ай бұрын

    Sad thing was, the first part of the film where we're relying on Cavill and Rockwell to sell the action is solid. It's that cool, stylish, and slightly unbelievable secret agent film we all know Vaughn can do. Howard also does well playing the dumpy writer suddenly thrown into this craziness. But then comes what I call 'the vineyard twist' and the entire thing goes straight into the crapper. Even worse, since Howard did absolutely zero training to sell the idea that she is an action star, you can actively see the change in direction and camera work to utilize CGI and cover up the fact she's so bad. This really stands out because less than an hour earlier we were having some solid action scenes. And then the last third of the movie just drags and drags and drags. With Vaughn throwing several twists into the last 40 minutes it's like he has to use them all in this one sitting. With all the women you could have gone with Emily Blunt, Milla Jovovich, Charlize Theron, hell, even Sandra Bullock could have sold it better. Howard did fine when she was playing Elle, but she is not Argylle in any way, shape, or form. Before the vineyard it was looking like a 8/10 film for me and the wife. After that it immediately dropped to a 4 or 5/10. And whoever was in the costume department and decided to dress Howard in the same dress Dua Lipa was in an hour earlier didn’t do Bryce any favors.

    OK, I'm gonna say it. I quite liked it. I just think that this type of humour isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's daft, yes, but deliberately so, with it's tongue firmly in it's cheek. Another point is that people DID know about the bad advanced word. At least there was plenty of opportunity for people to hear about the bad advanced work, because it was EVERYWHERE. I couldn't scroll through my social feeds without seeing damning advanced word on this film, which would ultimately put people off of seeing it rather than going and making up their own mind.

    Kristian Harloff recently said something that I very much agree with : after Kingsman : The Golden Circle, The King’s Man and now this, Matthew Vaughn should get away from the spy genre but for some reason, he just doesn’t want to. He still sticks to that franchise for no apparent reason. In fact, he recently said that he still plans on making Kingsman 3 and a sequel to The King’s Man which just baffles me. I really don’t understand why he just can’t move away from the spy genre. He really needs to do something else but then again, I’m just being naive because I know he’s not going to.

    Have to admit, the figure skating the step too far for me as well. It was also about 30 minutes too long, but almost all the way up to that point, I was enjoying it. Even being such a huge Cavill fan, NOT having very much of him in it, and when he was on screen he had that awful flat top - I still found it somewhat enjoyable. I loved Sam Rockwell and Bryce Dallas Howard together, Samuel L. Jackson got a bit...over th top at the end, but yeah - the skating thing was ridiculous and...not in a good way.

I have been to the IMAX many times where I was the only person in there. The flopping of a movie is not a surprise when no one goes to the movie. Deadpool will be the 2024 Barbie and MAYBE Furiosa and Godzilla will do well, but I would not be surprised to see most other movies not make much money.

    4:50 .... the marketing features prominently Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa, and the movie is not about them, even the sinopsis says that the movie is not abot them.... to me this is another Bridge to Terabithia marketing, bait and swich.... the movie is about Bryce Tyler Howard's character, and to me she's inexpressive, that's the word??... I don't see the emotions in her face, I don't know why..... 😅😅😅

    The reason it cost 200 million is because they spend an additional 50 to 100 million on reshoots, the movie was initially shot almost 3 years ago, but it had to go through reshoots and re edits to make it as good or bad as it turned out to be.

    How does one spend a fifth of a billion on a comedy? This sounds like a money laundering operation than a movie.

    Madame Web won’t be a bigger flop than Argylle by simple virtue of having a production budget that’s reportedly much less. You may deem it a worse movie, but it won’t be as big of a flop.

    I just watched the figure skating scene here on KZread….and I loved it! Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s a really stupid scene and it’s baffling how someone let Matthew Vaughn do that but I loved how it looked. The skating choreography, the music and the way it was shot. It was fun. 😀

    I'm taking part in Miyazaki Month. I've never seen any Ghibli movie. Each week, my theater is showing a different movie, and I thought it would be fun to experience them in theaters. Just saw Spirited Away, and I'm seeing Howl's Moving Castle this week. Then My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke to close out. I think I'll wait on Argylle. 😅

    I thought apple bought this from Universal for $200 million, if that is the case the budget was a lot less and Universal may have done ok with this film. They probably had no confidence in it so they flipped it for a small profit.

    After seeing the film is it an original film or a film marketed as an original film? What shocks me most is Vaughn has always been so braggy about not wanting massive Hollywood money and he can save money and doing it for cheaper. And yet this one he just seemed to overspend so much
