    It's kinda wild that my 2020 F150 with a 5.0 V8 got roughly the same highway fuel economy as this new Tacoma.

    Great video. I can’t wait for mine to come in. Can you do a video on the towing system? I’m so curious how to put the towing mode on in the manual. The automatics have a tow/haul button and the manuals don’t.

    I test drove the 2024 TRD OffRoad manual, and owned a manual Taco (3rd Gen). The rear end gear ratio on BOTH trucks is insanely high (4.30:1). That hurts the MPG on the manual. The RPMs are way too high at highway speed, and that's exactly why highway MPG isn't the greatest on the manual. Keeping it at 65MPH on the highway probably would have helped, too...70-75MPH kills the MPG. The 8 speed auto version of this truck does much better at highway speeds (about 1600 RPM @ 65MPH). Those who own the auto are reporting MPG as high as 25-26 mpg on the highway. Great video....thank you!

    You bet BMunster! While I totally agree 60-65 would drastically improve the MPG, to me that doesn’t seem real world. The majority of traffic flows at speeds faster than that so I wanted to provide that stat line. I guess another way to look at it is “well the WORST it can do is 20 on the highway” (before you become a felon because of high speeds of course). While the automatic’s added gears certainly aids in its efficiency, the manual’s classic touch combined with the ‘24s modern feel is a match made in heaven for me. Thanks for tuning in, more to come.

    The 2023 TRD Sport 4×4 SBed 4×4 rates 23mpg on highway & it is fairly accurate if not a tab better at 60mph on i95.. IIRC the 2024 Tacoma is a tad heavier & with a 2.4T it is working harder to push it down the road. We wont talk about if a trailer is hooked to it. I like the 2024 Tacoma's in some area's. The 2.4L has been around for awhile & is a good motor. Not sure about the Turbo & time will tell. Drive it with ease & it should be reliable IMO. I would be wery on hauling a heavy trailer tho. Great MPG review. Be safe

    Ridgeline averages 21.5 highway only, 17 city and I sit somewhere around 19 combined. Ridgeline drive train is old and out dated and still supporting the v6. Not going to lie I hoped the new Taco would do 23+ highway only... Maybe the hybrid drivetrain from 4runner/Landcruiser could do better? Granted the taco does "truck" things better lol. Love the in depth reviews man! Cant wait to see more TACO vids

    If you drive at lower speeds, or the automatic, 23+ is feasible for sure in the Tacoma. In the 75+ world and a manual however you’re a little bit more constrained hence the 20 number.

    I get much better mileage with 23 pro , is this a joke? My v6 in similar conditions makes about 22~24mpg , Toyota sells you i4 for the price of v6 with mpg of v8 :)

    Thanks for the review love manual trucks. But I must admit I’m disappointed in the mpg. I have a 22 Frontier 4x4 with the 3.8 and 9 speed auto. I average between 24 to 26 on long trips with intelligent cruise set at 73. So my question to Toyota would be why did go to a turbo 4 cylinder? It’s not for gas mileage by those figures.

  • @MoneyShift

    @MoneyShift

    2 ай бұрын

    You bet! To be frank the gearing has a big role to play in a truck’s highway MPG number, as a result it’s tough to compare a 6-Speed manual with a 9-Speed auto. That said those numbers you’re seeing so closely mimic what automatic Tacoma drivers are seeing! One of the big reasons for Toyota going with the 2.4T over keeping the naturally aspirated 6 is the rest of their lineup. This engine is used in the Tacoma/4Runner/Land Cruiser/Highlander/LexusRX/LexusTX/etc etc etc etc, as a result it’s easier to adjust it to another vehicle instead of revamp a naturally aspirated unit that would only continue to live in this truck. Cost savings and it works well here. Full review coming soon, thanks for watching!

    20.4 mpg at 75 mph is not bad. But the highest speed limit in my state is 70. Most of my freeway driving is at no more than 65 mph (with a 60 limit), where I bet the Tacoma can get closer to that 23 mpg number.

    You might do slightly better over the course of a longer trip. I did way better driving to Wyoming and back to NJ at 75mph than I generally do back and forth from work at the same speed. I imagine that was due to more consistent speed over the course of 3,800+ highway miles. Not much “city” driving aside from getting to a gas station.

    2019 frontier V6 4.0 L. Six speed manual transmission on a long trip. I will get 23 on the freeway doing approximately 70. Most efficient speed is going to be 40 mph up to an including 60. After 65 however, your MPG will go down significantly.
