    Surprisingly my 2019 SR5 gets better mpg. 35miles drive to work i get 20 to 21 mpg at 70mph and 22 mpg at 65mph speed limit in NV highway. Total full tank range of 365 to 370 miles per full tank, 2 clicks fueling style also 👌

    I think thats definately low mpg for a redesigned 4cyl turbo. I can average 21/22 mpg in my 2022 trd off road over long highway trips at speeds between 65/80 mph on regular round trips from NY to Fla on Rte 95.

    I have a 21 Taco and I consistently drive the speed limit everywhere and I average 20-22 MPG so how you can say the previous model gets 17 is simply untrue. This new truck is absolutely getting no better mileage than my 21. Also, in towing 4500-5000 lbs I average 10 mpg towing.

    The fuel numbers don’t seem too bad, I thought turbo engines usually exceed their highway EPA numbers. I do have one thing I’m curious about, why do you fill it until it clicks, wait 20 seconds and fill it more, I think most companies say to stop at the first click, and over filling can cause EVAP system issues down the line.

    The only reason to buy a mid size truck is better maneuverability and they take up a little less space in garages and driveways. Fuel economy is only marginally better than full size, if not the same or worse.

  • @DrunkDrynasty

    @DrunkDrynasty

    Historically that’s been the case, but why shouldn’t midsize trucks get better fuel economy? For Toyota to redesign the top selling mid-sized truck to have such marginal gains is such a missed opportunity. For what it’s worth it seems like the same people in the comments recording 20-22mpg in their g3 Tacomas. Those same ppl will probably record 25-28mpg with the new one with brand new highway tires set at 35psi, a tonneau cover, and with with a tailwind.

    The new truck makes more power and earlier than the 3.5 V6. The i-force, when available, will get at least the same mpg as the base 2.4, while making almost 50 more hp than the 3.5 V6 and 200 ft lbs more torque . 278 hp and 265 ft lbs to 326 hp and 465 ft lbs And, all the torque comes in under 2000 rpms. It's remarkable to get the power and performance gains without losing any efficiency, and maybe even gaining some.

    @rts3613 generating power is easy, increasing fuel economy. That's not. I also have a Magnusson super charger on my truck. 380bhp and 370 torque. Fuel economy unchanged unless i floor it. What I'm saying for the price and for as long as we waited. Not impressed. The trd sports have power options as a option. Couldn't believe it. And as far as the truck getting at the same fuel economy. That's not acceptable.

  • @rts3613

    @rts3613

    3 ай бұрын

    @@sammy-gd7hw I think most people will see a few mpg gain over the last model Tacoma. I also think the trick is adding power and also efficiency at the same time, along with drivability. The new engine makes more power and peak torque at 1700 rpm instead of 4800 like the outgoing 3.5 V6. That, and the 8 speed trans make it way more usable power for a truck. The new i-force max hybrid makes pretty much stock 7.3 powerstroke diesel numbers. There are also improvements to the brakes, suspension and seating, it's not all just about the mileage rating.

  • @markreams3192
    @markreams31923 ай бұрын

    The urban test with only twenty plus miles is too small a sample to be accurate giving you a large margin of error with the fill and refill method. The trucks mpg is probably more accurate. There are fewer variables as the trucks meters fuel used and distance traveled the same each time whereas filling and refilling can be off depending on pump used, ambient temperature, truck sitting level or the presence of a gas bubble even though you waited 20 seconds. By the way TFL truck waits 30 seconds!😂 Your numbers are better when compared to a gen 3 TRD off road. My son has a 2023 and struggles to get 16 mpg with mixed driving. I have a 2020 TRD Sport 2wd and seldom get less than 20mpg with mixed driving and get 21 to 26 mpg highway. I recorded 28.5 mpg on the Natchez Trace Parkway with the cruise set at 55. The speed limit is 50. There are no stop lights or stop signs. There are also no major climbs or sharp curves that require slowing. It was a straight 55 for over 100 miles. There was no traffic I had to slow for.
