    Paying subscription to a car manufacturer is just greedy from this big corporations, you just paid 50K+ for a midsize pickup truck and still have to pay monthly for simple convenience.

    Yes I understand but if you want to use the Toyota app to unlock or remote start your vehicle you have your pay a subscription, that is just greedy. It seems every big corporation wants to have a subscription base money making machine.

    What if they made those features standard and forced you to pay for them up front and you didn’t want them? Would that be greedy as well? Because they’re not putting anything on it for free… If Remote Connect is free for 3 years and you keep the vehicle an additional 10, that is $800 for 13 years of remote start. If you’re like most people and keep it for 6 years, you’re paying $240 for remote start - but only if you choose to. No one is forcing you to… It’s providing options for customers and the cost breakdown for what you’re getting is not that bad IMHO.

    So you are telling me that if you purchase a Tacoma trailhunter, which is going to be in the high $60K and you still have your pay for convenience to have remote start from an app? Either you are a car salesman or part of the problem 🤣

    So far no one has compared the storage behind and below the rear seat to the 2023 Tacoma. My 2023 Tacoma has huge storage areas behind and below the seats and the main reason for not buying a Ranger. Tools, cleaning stuff, hydraulic jack, bags, extra drinks etc. are some of the stuff I store. The 2024 Tacoma does not appear to have the same storage especially behind the seats.

  • @dvader3263

    @dvader3263

    3 ай бұрын

    While the 3rd gen Tacoma rear seat storage was nice for small items, the negative regarding the 3rd gen rear seat was the need to flip the bottom seat cushion forward to create a flat surface to carry heavy, dirty, pointy or bulky items. The rear seat headrests needed to be removed, or the front seat first needed to be moved forward, then the rear seat-back could be folded down for a flat load surface. It's as if the 3 rd gen rear seat was copied from the SUV 4Runner, instead of operating like a Ford F-150 or Honda Ridgeline fold up rear seat, where you could carry taller items like pressure washers, wheeled portable tool boxes or small wood chippers sitting on the floor inside the cab in an upright position.

    Love my decisions then! Got TRD Off Road with just the upgraded 14in screen, heated seats, bed liner and no other options. No pred steps, no wonky additional junk. And at 6'4" I echo that sentiment, I'm so happy I can finally buy a Taco. Also, won't be shocked to see an aftermarket soft touch cover for the top of the door card to easily resolve the plastic issue but it's the first thing I noticed in the truck.

    I had a 2007 Tacoma with a composite bed. I can contest that with much abuse and hauling that bed was as good as the day I bought it 13 yrs later. The draw back was it was light which made the ass end Squirrley. The bottom texture is chip coating. Never had my Tacoma chip in those places. My 2020 Tundra has a steel bed and I had to put a bed rug kit in it so I would not dent it. A lot of that trash was ordered or added by the dealer as add on rip offs.

Its a in line 4 banger 20.1 gallon fuel tank and i was getting 30 miles to the gallon on the highway using cruise control. The bedliner is very strong and lite weight .Take 60 pounds of vs. metal liner. I dont need all the bells and whistles . The SR5 sits high . Celestial Silver is nice to reflect heat and more visible for night driving as head lights bounce off silver .

Then the engine cover is another thing I dislike a lot mostly for the noise but also it looks bad. What’s the difference in price between a Lexus and a Tacoma? The tank size is a sure miss, especially if you tow. There’s probably stretches of highway in this country that you can’t tow a make it without carrying extra gas. The tail pipe placement is a miss for off road use. See TFL truck off road test.

  • @davep4610
    @davep46103 ай бұрын

    I'm going to bet that the small-ish fuel tank is because of weight. Every gallon of gas means a few pounds less payload, for a given GVWR, and potentially might trigger some threshold in EPA testing to give 0.1 MPG worse rating. I've seen elsewhere that the TRD Off-Road has a payload rating of exactly 1200 pounds. If you add a gallon of gas and the payload is 1192, people's heads will think "1100" instead of 1200.

    Your reasoning is spot on, but I think the reviewers were correct. The hybrid Taco is coming out later this spring, and this smaller gas tank is probably in anticipation of that version. Toyota is very unlikely to have two different sized tanks within the same model. It is a legitimate complaint to have such a small tank in a vehicle that is 1. expected to tow & 2. be purchased by rural consumers driving long distances by necessity. I hope Toyota is listening!

    There have been a lot of reviews but no one has mentioned that the new 2024 Tacoma does not give you a real tire for a spare. Instead they give you a convenience tire mounted on a short trip rim. I’m sure glad I bought a 2023 instead as pulling my boat out of the water every week would kill the 4 cylinder.

    I'm not saying it lacks the power, it's the strain on a smaller displacement engine that will wear out faster. The V6 has 94mm cylinder bore vs the V4's 87.5mm. Increased piston wear and more frequent oil changes will be showing up in the future.

    Hope you wrote down your list of issues and took/will take it to the dealer and have them documented. Not just to have them fixed or even to “complain” but for Toyota to have the information to make adjustments and improvements in production. As you pointed out this is the first run of the first year. Toyota is still just as meticulous about their own quality standards as they were 30 years ago when they really earned the reputation. Just recently They took a million mile 30 year old Tacoma back at their engineering facility to inspect the engine. They want to continuously know about issues to improve them. Unlike most manufacturers.

    I just drove a new SR5 as a rental car in Kansas City this week. I noticed some of the same issues as these guys. Although the truck drove nice, quiet, decent power etc. the cheap interior (the side door panels were scratched up after 3K) was a real turnoff. My current 2021 4Runner has 36K on it and the interior still looks brand new. After driving the truck, I have to say it was a bit of a let down as I was looking forward to trading in my 2021 4Runner TRD Off Road for a TRD Off Road Tacoma.

    i just test drove one. its actually pretty impressive compared to 3rd gen. especially the interior and screen. button set ups/location are good. I still think 3rd gen has a better shaped body though. like, seeing it in person was less impressive compared to video/pictures. idk about the engine. I'm sure its fine for life span but its noticeably louder than the v6 and not in a good way. sounds like it has to work way harder to do the same things. (obviously, 4 cylinder). you defiantly hear the turbo when you're driving and hit the accelerator. Transmission feels good. especially on those rolling stops when 3rd gen cant decided if it wants to be in 1st or 2nd gear lol.

You young people will understand this one day. I'm happy to see Toyota finally addressed this. Now that plastic bed is still a concern for me because I've seen these things crack and warp when using the bed to haul things like rock and firewood, i guess a mountain bike or a potted plant would be ok lol looking forward to a comparison with the new ranger. Fuel tank: toyota has always had small tanks on their trucks. My 03 sequoia has enough fuel to barely squeeze 300 miles out of it. My suburban had 45 gallons and could go 700 miles. My ram 2500 had 45 gallons. Im pretty sure they do it to bring up their max tow capacity. Less weight in fuel makes more available GVW.
