The biggest difference of this and Japanese grand sumo is the power of tachi-ai. The initial charge of grand sumo is like two bulls colliding head to head. That's a real fight and impresses any NFL line man. Japanese wrestlers spend bulk of their training time pushing the opponent(called oshi-zumo).

A powerful tachi-ai is only useful if you have weight as it determine a inician advantage, that is why smaller sumokas don't use force but speed to get a positional advantage.

The technical reason that I've heard they do it for is because some people religions prevent them from baring their ass cheeks but I know a lot of them do it because they don't want to be made fun of being American culture is very shallow and crucifies anything that doesn't fit into our ideal. The reason there are no limitsis because it's tradition. Nobody is 155 in pro sumo, even if you're short you can still get heavier and better your technique, not to mention you have the speed advantage as well as greater endurance. I'd also like to mention the rank of Yokozuna. They are THE best in sumo and are held in very high regard.. Having a "yokozuna" for different weight classes would be absolutely ridiculous.

I am wondering, they are talking about world championships… Is it a true world championship or is it a world championship only in USA. I' m asking because I don't see any legends from Japan on these USA tournaments

Good question! Japanese Pro Sumo is an exclusive league. Outside of Pro Sumo, the Japan-based International Sumo Federation puts on an annual World Championships, with dozens of countries competing.
