Good editing and commentators, I like that the editing has slowed down. 5:55 this match was so clutch! 9:42 never seen this move before, didnt know you could do that in Sumo. Nice technique! Great Sumo in the Open-weight division!

9:42 It's a technique called "susoharai" and it's sometimes used in professional sumo. Pro wrestlers Goueidou or a few years ago, Tokitenkuu use(d) it.

@RemoveChink I agree. It isn't quite the same without the rituals, the clay dohyo, and the competition isn't as good.

The only issue I have with this Sumo is when the match starts and both wrestlers just kind of stand there and cautiously look at each other..... a full on sumo wrestler would of bowled their ass over in seconds. Though admittedly, I wish I could be part of this..... I live in MA, and even if I didn't go anywhere with it, I wish I could find somewhere that did Sumo for everyone.... I do so love the sport.

Japanese sumo has a professionalism and respect between athletes that is just missing here. The jumping around and screaming should be saved for outside the ring. It's disrespectful to your opponent to celebrate standing on top of them. Dance your heart out after the match, but at least let the other guy stand up and bow, first.

And to me Japanese Sumo looks disrespectful. I am a combat sports practitioner and in combat sports it is totally fine to celebrate, but you gotta show your opponent respect by shaking his hand or even better hugging it out. I hug my sparring partners after each round. I have never seen Rikishi hug after the bout. They look like they take themselves way too seriously to my western sensibilities. Different cultures view respect differently :)

Watch university sumo in Japan. It’s the same thing. Only professional sumos don’t celebrate. You show respect to your opponent after the bout by bowing out. You can celebrate a bit between the win and the exit

Darren Pene Junior Pati tbh you can see that the organizer have imporoved a lot by just comparing 2016 & 2017 the floor is still a cloth/plastic sheet (which is also used in smaller cities in Japan and thus definitely okay), which is probably slippier than the actual dohyou but at least it doesn't go loose like in 2016 the ring seems to be foam and plastsc which gives less pivoting than the thick rope when stepped on by a full grown man (these are more usually used by children here) but it's also fine techniques have improved but has a MMA/UFC vibe in it (probably because of the tight pants and the clothes the judge wears), that is nothing unacceptable though, considering that a certain degree of localization can promote culture and sports better
