In Japan, it’s what “itadakemasu” means, when they say eat before they start eating. It’s mindful eating, not just shoving whatever junk food down. It’s being thankful for all the people and animals and plants that made it possible for that food to on your plate in front of you. It’s such a great way of thinking about food you’re about to eat.

Because of that, Japanese people are taught to get a portion that they know they can always handle. There are also some buffets in Japan that charge extra if you finish the buffet with food on the plate.

Really sad reading that this gentle giant passed away recently. He seemed like a real positive guy, and despite not being in the Japanese top divisions he did a lot to raise the profile of sumo in the West. RIP Byamba you big legend.

I watched a show about sumo and the young ones who train on a sumo house in Japan are taught and made to be the cooks. And then you work your way up. There’s seniority. So when he said he was 16 and moved to Japan to train to become professional sumo, I believed he was put into kitchen duty for years before moving up.

After watching the What a Ballerina Eats in a Day video I recognize how quick I am to judge various professions diets. The ballerinas diet was dreadfully unhealthy and processed, and the sumo wrestler eats a homemade and highly healthy diet. I would normally think the opposite.

he was 11% body fat at 330lb , which is like an insane amount of pure muscle. he has put on a lot of fat now, which in his case is fine as it is more weight for his opponent to go against.

***** no, you got it backwards. "Chanko" is derived from. Sumo tradition and high proteinNabe is traditional Japanese stew. You Koreans always hate on Japanese but in the end, the Japanese created most of what you use everyday, then modified by Koreans and then try to claim for their own. It is Korea that always takes and copies from the Japanese. Don't get it mixed up.

I always thought sumo wrestlers were lazy guys that couldn't loose weight and decided to do sumo and eat unhealthy junk food, but this opened my eyes and I have respect for them, they are actually hard working and not lazy at all, this guys is s dedicated and probably eat more healthy than most people out there who claim to be healthy! and he seems so happy and healthy with such a positive energy. finally youtube recommended something worth watching 👍 and thanks for the upload 👍
