This was amazingly helpful. It helped me confirm one of my remotes was trash and I was able to reprogram the new one exactly as described. It was fun trying to get the laser cut key piece swapped over to the new remote, but I figured that out...thanks to KZread videos like yours.

Adding one thing: Push the start button before dropping the key in the slot after the 3 10 min session. Then again after you hit the unlock on each key being programmed to get it ready for the next key.

This procedure only applies if you don't have a functioning key fob. If you have a functioning key fob, then adding more is a much faster/easier process. Read owners manual for instructions.

@@wallstreettkid It is in the "Keys, Doors, and windows" section of the owner's manual. I have two Volt's and have programmed FOB';s for both of them. It is remarkably easy once you get the hang of it.

Anyone went over the 45 min re programing steps to find out that the remote was good all the time and that you just forgot to remove the little plastic thing of the battery 😐 oh no? Just me 🤦🏼‍♂️

Hello, I have a 2012 Ampera and a 2013 Volt and I can't get into key programming mode, I open and close the lock 5 times and when I get inside the car I I have the same thing as usual and no key programming message, what should I do to be able to program my keys?

Hello, the car lost remote access to the existing key and I reprogrammed it, it worked for a few hours and then it lost contact again, probably the key board have any issue? (I also changed the battery 2032)

I just wish Chevy could make this process a little more complicated

I bought a key online already cut..i tried turning 5 times outside...but wouldnt turn..it fits but dont turn..am i doing it wrong?/can u help me out?

This helped a ton, but mine let me add the keys in less than 30 seconds. No complaints here! I do not know what I did though lol.

What automaker make you jump hurdles to reprogram new keys...

You can jump hurdles for nearly nothing in your own garage, or you can get bent over by the dealer with a Ford or Toyota key program - at least GM allows you to do it, on nearly every car they have.

Can u put a link where u bought your key fob? Does it need to be uncut prior to programming it in the car? Sorry I’m totally new to this!

Angelina Nguyen - the 2 FOBs I used were original but you can purchase new ones (you will have to program) on Amazon. You will also need to get them cut if you ever want to open the doors manually with them...

Angelina Nguyen - looks like it does. Lists the chip set and frequency in the description plus they have returns if something does not work.

I wonder if you had no master key at all, if you can gain access to the driver lock (take the door panel off), manually move the locking mechanism to enter program mode, then program a new key? Only asking because I'm looking at a wrecked Volt with no key.

Dealer can laser cut a new key with only the car's VIN. Just had this done.

What years is it?

How many miles are you at and do you still enjoy the car?? I have a 2013 with 160k miles and it’s great still. Hoping it gets to 300k

i have other problem. All the buttons on the key are working but keyless go is not working and the key is not detected. I try to reprogram by this way but it is not help. Have anybody such problem and how to solve it. Thanks in advance

It sounds like the key fob proximatey sensors are not working. There is one in the center box attached to the windshield. Watch the first part of the video. The box just pops off. I could be unplugged or broken.

I can't find a single video online that's not complicated lol
