Thanks this worked perfect!! The dealership in modesto wanted 180 to program my remote, I did it myself in less than 5 minutes!

I followed your instructions on my first purchased key fob and it worked perfectly but on my second key a year later it did not, i added one small change based on a different video. i followed your steps until the 1:13 time at that point i pushed the start button for 2 seconds then the "Ready for remote 0X" incremented by one in my case it went from 04 to 05 and the new remote was programed. thank you for your video!

This is exactly what I had to do to make it work for me. Instructions were perfect just needed this extra step.

Same thing happened to me. Fortunately, she took out the battery from her old fob so she could test the new one. At that point the light bulb turned on in my head...Oh yeah, the battery. I put in a new battery and bingo! it worked. Sometimes we get tripped up by the simplest things lol.

Thank you! Thank You! worked like a charm on my 2015 volt. The only thing was I had to hold the start button for what seemed like 20 seconds to exit programing, 10 wasn't enough.

Forgot to mention, if you have the old non working remote (washed mine in clothes washer) to replace the cut key, just pop the key open about 45 degrees support the metal housing, and drive out the pin, pull old cut key out of remote. Repeat on new remote and slide in old key into new remote and replace pin.

Hello. See page 2-6 of the 2015 manual for a additional step after putting new key in the slot. Then push start button for 2 secs. Then it will say ready for next transmitter or the 10secs to get out of program mode. I could not get out of program mode. And car would not start with either key. But is ok now. Thought I was going to have to tow the car

This is an awesome video! Note it only covers the case where you have a working key fob transmitter to use for programming the new un-programmed one. If you have lost all your key fobs and you buy new ones there is a way to program them too, but this video doesn't cover it.

Worked for my 2012 volt but I can’t remote start it from my new fob. My old one works fine but the eBay one I got doesn’t even though it has a button for it

If you ever find the lost key, will it still work or will the car remove it from it's log of working keys. I lost mine and i'm concerned someone might be able to use the key if they find it.

@@MattB787 I called around and found a place near me. Ace wasn't able to do it for me because a special laser cutter was needed for my type of key. But I was able to purchase the FOB on Amazon for way cheaper than the dealership so it was totally worth it. Thanks for posting this video. I would have never tried a FOB off Amazon thinking it was a scam. You helped me save a couple hundred bucks!

This does not work for 2013. The steps are to put a working remote in the cup holder and do the 5 lock/unlock to put in programming mode. To get around this, I switched the key blades so the new remote has a the cut to open the door lock and working remote remains in the cup holder. When it is in the programming mode, I am at key 4 since I lost a key #3. When the new key is inserted in the console top, pressing flashing engine start/stop 2 second does nothing. The key itself was used with a previous 2012 volt which was wrecked so I know the key is good and the battery was switched with the working remote, so it is also good. Any suggestions? After 10 second the blue start/stop stops automatically and only the remote in cup holder works.

I have 2 Chevy volts a 2014 and 2015 gen 1. i programed my 2014 volt with a new key. i then tried to program that same key on the 2015 volt and it did nothing. my guess is that if the remote is already programed for one car it wont work on a different volt. you may have to find a way to deprogram your old key first

Thanks, but the procedure may be different if you have the key on the new fob cut in advance, or if you were able to transfer the key from a non working/damaged remote as I was. At 36 seconds where you unlock and lock 5 times, the owners manual says you are suppose to do that with your NEWLY acquired fob, not the existing remote that works. That was the only way I could get it to work. Maybe it's different if you have a blank fob. The manual also says place the working fob in the cup holder presumably so the car can see it. Afterwards I tested using the procedure in the video which I'm glad I did.

My 2014 Volt decided to sound the alarm when I tried this. But once i got in and closed the door, it calmed down (did the alarm go off on anyone else?). And then I couldn't get the procedure to work. I'll try again tomorrow during mid day when another car alarm adventure won't wake anyone up...

If the doors were automatically, or locked with the remote when you began the unlocking process it will cause the alarm to go off because the door was manually unlocked (with the key) in stead of pressing the unlock button on your remote. Begin the process by using your unlock button on the fob. Then do the 5 lock/unlock procedure.

These steps did not work on my 2014 Chevy Volt.
