Thank you for sharing! The frustration of finding dealerships that want to touch this car is limited. Luckily, I have one that will, but since this is my son's car, the dealership by him wanted $1200 to drop the battery to do further diagnostics. Insane. I had to drive two hours and swap cars in order to take it to one that would. I shared the service bulletin with them and I appreciate you taking the time to post.

$1200 is plausible to remove and inspect the battery depending on their labor rate. Some dealerships have had trouble finding and retaining the technicians that hold the required training credentials to work on them so they avoid working on them. If the shop had reason to believe they had a coolant leak which requires internal inspection this situation must be handled with care and attention due to the serious risk of fire and battery meltdown if there were to be a coolant leak… at that point it becomes dangerous to even attempt a repair. They may have had a good reason or they may have jumped to the conclusion based on the description of the code and the fact that the code test procedures suggest internal battery inspection. The technician must use their judgement and test for a coolant leak before they follow through with this bulletin. I like to both pressure test and vacuum test the battery cooling system as well as remove and inspect the plug. Thanks.

Car is back and they followed the SB. Charged to full when I picked it up and no issues driving home. Charging in the driveway now and will return to my son this weekend.@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist

Been fighting this symptom for months in my 2013. Exact same cadence of failures as your customer. I have already performed an actual coolant flush (using the GM software to run the pumps) since I'm well past the service interval for it, but unsurprisingly my isolation resistance is still too low. Coolant sensor seems fine. I guess my next thing to do is to reprogram the modules, either thru crusty software or using money to make it someone else's problem. The car works fine if I clear codes before I charge, but by the time I'm done with work the codes are back and remote start is disabled. Winter's coming up so I'd rather have that working.

Definitely do get the module software updated. That solves most all of them. If there is still an isolation fault detected after the software is updated then the vehicle has a serious problem and needs diagnosis. It has been rare in my experience. Thanks.

I'm knowledgeable on high voltage high energy systems, so I'm getting to the bottom of this one way or another. This car was and still is my first car, so I'm not going down without a fight. Hopefully it'll just be the module needing to be reprogrammed.

@@tomaszgg2849 no the range should not decrease. Except for the aging of the battery will cause the range to slowly decrease overtime. Thanks.

Is it a safety issue on why you would not show us how to check the drain? Just wondering. I don't even have an electric vehicle. Was just curious.

Yes. Unqualified and untrained hands should not attempt repairs on these high voltage systems. Thanks.

yo i got one of those elm327 dongles and idk if mine is fake but theyre complete garbage. sometimes they work, sometimes they cause a canbus error and throw every code imaginable and put the car into limp mode. i would reccomend if anyone has that dongle, never leave it plugged in and only plug it in if you have a way of disconnecting the 12v battery like a cressant wrench since that was the only way i was able to clear all the codes and get the car out of limp mode with another scanner to clear codes.

That’s very interesting. I have an old Elm Scan 5 somewhere, but I’ve never tried it on one of these modern vehicles with multiple CAN networks. Thanks.

Any Chevrolet dealership should be able to do it the programming update. There are also many aftermarket shops that could probably do it as well if they are properly equipped. I would start by calling around shops nearby to your location… Start with the dealership. Thanks.

@@ToddBryantsr that doesn’t make any sense. They should be equipped to work on it….maybe they don’t have anybody trained to work on hybrids.

@@ToddBryantsr wow that’s a questionable management strategy on their part. I’m sorry you’ve experienced something like that. You’ll have to call around and find somebody willing to do the diagnosis. You may be able to call GM customer assistance and get them to help you find a capable shop.

You need the equipment and subscriptions. It’s easier and cheaper for the average person to take it to the shop to have it programmed. Thanks.

Checking the drainplug wouldn't be considered working on the high voltage system.. and would have let someone know immediately if they had a dangerous firehazzard situation. You should have shown it.
