I'm french, I was 5 yo that day, and watched it at my grandparent's house with my cousins. I fell asleep during the extra-time before Zidane got that red card. Given the disappointing ending of the match, they didn't wake me up, and I discovered everything in the newspaper the next morning. I still remember that picture on frontpage showing the ref handing up the red card. I don't know why, but I convinced myself that I had actually seen it live, and never believed my family who told me I was asleep. Somehow, years later, the actual memory of me discovering the result in the morning came back, but still when I watch this video it feels like I was awake, watching it live that day… It just amazes me how confusing memories can be !

So that day when I woke up, I was told the final outcome, which I didn't believe until I saw that picture on the frontpage of the newspaper on the table. But obviously I didn't read it haha

Natia Fox Really boring without you Italians

The strongest team won: Italy. Even with a regular goal deleted by referee. And Zidane was such a shame.

This was 14 years ago. I remember I fell ill after watching the final. I feel so old now.

Let's admit that if Zidane scored on that header it would have went down as one of the best goals in WC history ffs I'm confident that 99% of the goalies wouldn't be able to stop that one instead it's one of the best saves in WC history.

thart wasn't even a penalty shot for France! Italy was a power house that year and everyone knows it, buffon shut down Zedane and for the record italy has been losing in penalty kicks for years being the better team, they deserved that cup big time.

He never touched him are you blind? You can clearly see him pulling back his leg because making contact. It was a dive.

Depuis cette finale de CDM les français ont compris l'essence du jeu tactique avec Didier Deschamps qui a tout appris en Italie avec la Juventus de Turin. Ceci dit quand il partira tout sera à recommencer pour eux. L'Italie est et restera un exemple à suivre pour la France et pour beaucoup de nations c'est comme en formule 1, il y a Renault et Ferrari :-)

Zidane after the penalty "Get off me i don't want to celebrate to quickly". This match was really weird... he seems so out and disgust by the Italians attitudes in comparison with the Brazilians, it's day and night.

Buffon was really awesome in the tournament as he conceived only 2 goals through out the tournament

Yup one was an OG (which is obvious he couldn’t save it because he wasn’t expecting it) and a penalty (it’s almost impossible to save a penalty and even harder when the penalty taker is Zidane who did a panenka)

2006 was my first world Cup.. and i was very unhappy since France lost on penalties.. Marco materazzi (Italy) intentionally provoked zidane since it was their plan as confessed by Italian coach marcello lippi. However, zidane should have controlled the situation, but his anger overpowered him! Italy got the taste of their ill work and cursed by the destiny... Italy got out in group stage both in 2010 & 2014 And failed to even qualify for WC in 2018 & 2022.. What a shame! On the other hand, France🇫🇷 finally got success 🏆💪 in 2018 defeating croatia in the final , but lost again in the finals in 2022 via penalties.. France need to improve their goalkeeping as well since 90 mins doesn't always make you winner!

2021 still remembered the epicness of this 2006 FIFAWC FINAL.

I was 18, 2006 was a great year for me and one of the best world cups of all time!!

Love this final, idk why but other world cup finals it just didn't feel right. maybe it was the atmosphere. maracana is gonna be great though

This was a little bit before I was born yet my mom and dad told me very much about it. It's a very iconic world cup mostly because of zidanes headbutt. It's pretty sad how that was his last world cup memory and probably one of his last memories of his career.

Reason I watched this video today is because...this was the last world cup I ever had to watch with my late daddy...who passed away on 2008....I miss him,come back papa 😔
