@@alexmansour Unlikely - the stands were set back from the pitch in the River Plate stadium and nobody heard a thing in the second half when Holland were dominating. At the Jalisco in 1970 there was an attendance of 107,412 but here there was only 71,483.

You also have to consider the fact that Argentina won the world cup in front of thousands of Argentineans. They won it in the capital city of their own country in front of their own compatriots. That rarely happens and when it does, it's exciting.

He didn’t Argentina as a team did. You guys really seem to forget that and forget how the others play. If 2-3 players on that team got hurt it’s no cup for Argentina. Y’all gotta stop praising Messi so much when his goals were only penalties that he didn’t earn mind you. The team pressed and defended, countered well together in the final. Wasn’t Messi that did everything.

That second Argentine goal is eerily similar to that of Alvarez second goal in the Croatia game in the 22 World Cup where he took the ball and ran, bounced it off a player in the penalty box evaded the keeper and still scored. It's pure magic almost defies the laws of physics

Argentina’s second goal was in fact an own goal. You have to see the footage looking down from behind the goal which does exist on the Internet. Look at Mario Kempes - Argentina 1978 - 6 goals - KZread. At 1.25 Suurbier boots the ball in trying to clear as Kempes flails at it with his right foot but fails to make contact. The standard footage shown from the side does look like Mario touched it in. A classic case of the camera lying.

Far too underrated if you ask me. I think it has to do with profile. Kempes was serious and cold blooded, let his game speak on his behalf. Maradona was always hotheaded and willing to answer anything and anyone. A gladiator. Messi has a bit of both, saying some provocative stuff and opinions from time to time, and playing with the best that Mario and Diego had.

Pienso que tiene que ver con la personalidad de cada uno. Kempes siempre fue alguien serio, mesurado y de bajo perfil. Maradona fue todo lo contrario: era desmesurado en todo y generaba amores intensos como nadie. Y de muerto los sigue generando.

Yes, the Dutch were technically awesome but boy, the Argentine attacks were so fluid and impressive. Kempes and Luque were like swashbuckling cavaliers leading one thrilling charge after another.

Resenbrink was a fine player indeed who, in addition to playing for the Netherlands in the '74 and '78 World Cups, was a member of that terrific Anderlecht team of the '70s. Sadly he died in 2020 and another player in the '78 final, Leopoldo Luque, died in 2021.
Holland has been unlucky in 3 finals.. at least they’ve won a European Cup
