Drugs is something that should not be applauded in sports. You should have been more reserved in your comments. If it was Italian 90 or Mexico 86, I will understand. But on this occasion, the drugs takes away his shine except you support people who cheat with drugs.

Every WC has some kind of “corruption scandal” to it. I mean the Italy vs Bulgaria game was definitely in Italy’s favor by the refs. They don’t want Bulgaria vs Brazil. They don’t want Italy vs Sweden. They want the 2 big dogs in there. No match is ever fixed. However the refs will usually favor a certain side to an extent. I mean look at all the winners. It’s Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, and Spain. I don’t mention England bc even though they have a massive fan base, they haven’t won since 1966. Spain gets mentioned bc that team from 2008-2012 was insane! 42-0 international record streak I think. The ones that live outside the bubble are Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, and Croatia. Mostly all the other nations compete to make it entertaining.

I second you.. however you need to see his goal against Greece at USA 94 and I’m sure you will change your view that his legs and tricks were gone at this stage.. this free kick was class apart and he took everyone by surprise!! It was like a Bruce Lee moment in football. Sheer genius!

I used to practice that 2nd goal by Argentina all summer of 94’! That goal and Del Piero’s goal in the 2006 WC SF vs Germany are definitely my 2 favorites! Actually Tevez’s goal in 2010 and Maxwell Rodriguez’s goal in 2006 are up there also!

The 94 World Cup had some great games. This one, Bulgaria-Germany, Romania-Argentina, Spain-Italy come to mind.

Had the pleasure of being at this match as a 7 year old - among the things I remember were the many cars in bumper to bumper traffic on the way to the game at the old foxboro stadium ( an absolute nightmare to get to since there’s only one way in ) with tons of people holding their Argentina flags out and waving them with joy/ wasn’t til we got to the stadium that we saw some Nigeria supporters having the time Of their life , playing music and dancing. All the sights and sounds and colors were brand new to me and I didn’t know what it all meant but I knew I was immediately in love with football . How I long for those beautiful days with not a care in the world .

I see you didn't address the issue of the player being offside on the 1st goal. It is your poor sportsmanship that got Marradona banned for cheating with drugs. And don't forget about the "hand of God" in 86 and the cheating in 1978 to knock Brazil out before your 1st championship. Argentina has a legacy of cheating.

Nigeria had a great team that year. It's not apparent in this highlights video but it was all Nigeria attacking and controlling the game. Argentina won due to their few creative super stars who could change the result of any game.

Inexperience cost Nigeria both matches. They played well and scored first, In the match against Italy, Amuneke scored a good goal, Zola was sent off and Nigeria were leading till the 90th minute. Oliseh couldnt tackle well inside the 18 yard box leading to the pass to Roberto Baggio to level. Even after Italy scored the penalty in the extra time, Nigeria had a golden chance to level it 2-2 off a beautiful tackle and pass across italy's 18 Yard from Mike Emenalo, Nigeria had 1,2,3 players that would have scored but Yekini miscued and resultant attempt to score failed as Dino Baggio cleared the ball to safety.

I remember this game very well. Maradona was hecked by the Nigerians all game as they couldn't handle his skills. The team was so promising having also beaten Greece 4-0. If not for Maradona ban, this team would be the team to beat.

@@olivergamondi4187 if it wasn't a banned substance he wouldn't have been kicked out. It was deleted in 1998. What has that got to do with 1994 when it wasn't deleted and banned. Why would you fast forward 4 years. He was kicked out in 1994. You can't clear him of cheating proactively. Every team in the world cup can only play 7 matches. The winner can not play every team in the competition to be the champion. If he was not on drug his team and association would have protested and fought to reverse the suspension. Why you have to bring Brazil into it i have no idea. They won again 8 years later. You may not like them it doesn't still remove the facts that Brazil is still the greatest soccer team in the world.

Childhood memories ....

I remember at night during this game my family unknowingly locked the door of my half-walled room from the inside and went outside and went to the nearest club to watch the game .Maradona was still excited then.....RIP the one & only "Magician"

absolutely...The dynamic change in 1990 without him. He was the key player to get them to the final. That was a BS yellow card against Italy too. If Maradona didn't get ban in 1994, it would have been another world cup too. Batigol was a beast!

Great game and quick thinking Argentina scored 2 smart goals against sleeping 🛏 Nigeria 🇳🇬 team. Cannigia was the first to react to the free kick expecting a rebound if the keeper fumbles with the ball. As a striker, you’re always taught to anticipate where the ball will be to score those Special winning Goals. Nigeria best World Cup team. Been to all world cups since 1996 in Germany and Russia 2018. Nigeria vs Argentina game in Russia was also a sad occasion as the referee denied Nigeria a second blatant penalty by Marcus Mojo who eventually scored the winner behind the sleeping Moses who should have taken the second penalty to probably send Argentina home.... Nigeria loss to Italy 🇮🇹 was even worse to accept as I did not go to work for three days. My only consolation was that my beautiful Daughter ABIGAIL Laura was born on 06/07/94 which was a day after the match. She’s now 25 years old and guess what she doesn’t like football 🙈😂⚽️⚽️⚽️. But who cares, she got a 1st Class in University degree and doing well in life. Am still playing football at over 50 years and will retire when am 65 years old...lol

@@jumakapilima5674 - How many world cups has Messie won by himself??? Put Maradona on today's pitches with rules that dont let defenders attack and he would be unstoppable. Look at 1982 when he got hacked down everytime he touched the ball and defenders didnt even get a yellow card. Look at 1986 when the pitches were awful- bouncing and bobbling everywhere and check his control of the ball- amazing.

Maradona was playing in an era against the like of Platini, Rummenigger, Dalglish, Gullet, Shuster etc etc As you know so much you will also know that south American players wernt considered for European Footballer of the year (EFotY)in those days - EFotY was the predecessor to world player of the year. I've seen both play live and belive me Maradonna was on a different level.

All the goals scored in this match were beautiful starting with the Nigerian strike. We lost cos of inexperience. The Argentine had superstars but they were not better than us.
